Brian is looking for newsletter articles already! At this writing we are getting ready for the air show this weekend, the hot dog stand is up, the pancake grills are ready, seminar speakers are lined up and ready to go. It looks like it is all going to come together very well. Last month’s Young Eagles day got scrubbed to low ceilings, but a few kids got to see our operation and airplanes and hopefully will be back. The June Young Eagles after the air show may be heavily attended with the advertising we will be doing at the open hangar and hot dog stand. A few people will be out of town next month, so please come out on 6 June if you can. Especially if you can fly. We are still accepting nominations for a teen to be sponsored at this year’s Young Eagles Air Academy Advanced Camp. Advanced Camp ages are 16-18 and we are looking for someone who is interested in aviation. The selection will be evaluated and selected from the application the nominee fills out from the Young Eagles web site. We have reserved a spot for the camp starting July 21-29. Air Venture at Oshkosh is July 27 to August 2. We have had some interest and one application. good time we had! I want to thank all the judges, clerks, registration staff and photographers who make the job of judging the aircraft possible. There were about 40 people doing these jobs and again, thanks. 65 aircraft were judged and many of outstanding quality. The Grand Champion was the Boeing 40C, a large and beautiful plane. The Experimental Champion is a wonderful plans-built amphibian (10 year long project!) from Half Moon Bay. We gave out our first award for LSA and our first award for a rotorcraft. We will do it again next year! Leslie Grate I would like to thank the photographers who took the judging photos. In all, 1800 photographs were taken, and sorted down to the few shown at th awards presentation. There were some early departures that kept us from showing them at the presentation, but overall it went well. Thanks to: Marco Perez Sam Bishop Jim Shumaker , especially for running out to the flightline to get a photo of a winner we missed. Brian Moffet Negotiation with Bob Van Wagenen is progressing to have him run his aviation ground schools in the EAA hangar. Cabrillo College is ending his program so he is going to do it on his own. Looks like this will be a great addition to our presence at WVI. After the airshow, I’ll be picking back up with the WVI Emergency Plan we had started. It’s been on hold for the last three months, but I haven’t forgotten about it! I hope everyone has (had by this time) a great air show this year and can now cruise through the rest of the year. Volunteers can pick up their cup/patch/pin from the 45th Watsonville Fly-In & Air Show at the June general membership meeting.
