CHAIRMAN LETTER
Dear Friends,
There are so many reasons I’ve
grown fond of this great city over
the past 5 years. The restaurants,
fun family activities like the
Pasadena Rodeo, the Strawberry
Festival and Armand Bayou
Nature Center and other cool
Gary Nickelson
things like 2 live theaters and the
Chairman of the Board
endless free events put on by the
City of Pasadena are just a few things that make this city
great. While these are wonderful attributes, another way
I like to gauge a city is by the various outreach programs
that help those less fortunate souls in our community.
Just some of the programs in Pasadena are Project Joy and
Hope, The Bridge Over Troubled Waters, the Salvation
Army, Sarah’s House and Cenikor. I’d like to take some
time to highlight just one of them in this newsletter.
The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 by William and
Catherine Booth. Since then, they operate in over 126
countries and serve millions of people. Their mission statement is “The Salvation Army, an international movement, is
an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Their
message is based on the Bible. It’s MISSION is to preach the
gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His
name without discrimination.” Major Edward Alonzo and
his caring staff carry out this mission with passion. I’ve
had the opportunity to sit in on two of their recent board
meetings where they give reports on the number of people
they help and the new programs they are developing. It’s
inspiring to see so many people working so hard to bring a
little hope to those who may not receive it anywhere else.
It’s through the generous support of individuals and organizations that they are able to reach out to thousands of
people throughout the year. If you’d like to help, contact
the Chamber of Commerce and they will put you in contact with the right person. The Salvation Army really
makes a difference in Pasadena.
There are a couple of events coming up. First, on February
21st, the Pasadena Business Expo is being held from 11am
until 5pm at the Pasadena Convention Center. Second, a
luncheon honoring Commissioner Jack Mormon on March
21st is going to be at the DoubleTree by Hilton at the
Hobby Airport location. He’ll give his annual state-of-thecounty address. This is a 6-chamber event, so be sure to
make your reservations fast. Young Guns will also be holding their first Happy Hour of the year on March 7 at 6 p.m.
at Cullen’s Live, if you are a professional under the age of
40 please join them!
Until next month….

The Pasadena Chamber of Commerce has partnered with Infintech to offer an
exclusive member benefit program to bring members much lower rates through
combined group buying power. With lower fees across the board, members get
savings that maximizes their profits.
Power of the Program
Members enrolled in the program will have access to lower fees, utilizing Cost-Plus
Pricing. This transparent pricing model will expose the true costs of processing electronic payments, thus eliminating the potential for “after-the-fact”
rate increases by the processor. The processing rate you’re offered through the program will remain the same for the duration of your membership.
Program Features
Here are just a few of the features you’ll enjoy with this Pasadena Chamber of Commerce member benefit program:
• Pre-negotiated rates
• Transparent pricing model
• No unjustified cost increases
• No long-term contracts or cancellation penalties
• Dedicated, live customer service
• Discounts on ancillary products and services
How much can YOU save?

A record 17 art students to display work at
the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
A record 17 Pasadena ISD student artists will have their work on display at this year’s
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Sam Rayburn High students accounted for eight of the 17 selections with one Best of
Show and two Gold Medals.
Memorial High placed five students in the Special Merit category.
Best of Show winners went to Pedro Flores from South Houston Elementary, Marcos
Garcia from Southmore Intermediate and Raina Baggerly from Sam Rayburn High.
Gold Medal winners went to Lesley Martinez from Southmore Intermediate, Denisse
Molina and Ruby Benitez from Sam Rayburn High and Carlos Hernandez from De Zavala
Middle.
The winning artwork will be on exhibit at the rodeo’s Hayloft Gallery at the Reliant
Center Stadium.
High school students will advance to the Grand Prix round for a chance to sell their artwork
at auction. They will compete against districts across the state in hopes of securing college
scholarship funds.
“This year we have 13 students advancing for a chance at auction,” said Shannon Raygoza, the
Pasadena ISD’s visual arts specialist. “We beat out surrounding districts such as Lamar and Katy
and are sending the maximum amount of students. It is truly remarkable what our students and
teachers have accomplished.”
On Thursday, an estimated 900 spectators attended the rodeo art open house at the Administration
Building. The exhibit showcased all rodeo art submissions from district
students in elementary through high school.
