The accolade was one of two significant honours bestowed upon Mr Moss in as many weeks. He was also crowned Surf Life Saving Victoria’s Volunteer of the Year at a recent Awards of Excellence dinner. The Graeme Long Medal, presented by Emergency Services Minister James Merlino, specifically recognised Mr Moss’ contribution over the 2015/16 season. “I was involved with coaching for about 15 years at Jan Juc and then the last three or four I’ve got involved in the Life Saving education, which has always been key to me,” he said. “I thought I actually did less this year but when you write it all down I actually did more because it was in all different areas.” The win automatically nominates Mr Moss, a “doer” by nature, for Surf Life Saving Australia’s Volunteer of the Year award. “I don’t find it difficult to be involved, I don’t like to sit there and see things not happen,” he said. The 53-year-old competed in surf lifesaving at a state and national level as a youngster, cementing his passion for the sport. “I think I’ve clocked up 40odd years in lifesaving,” he said. “I always wanted to be a Great contribution: Jan Juc surf lifesaver Daryl Moss was recently crowned Surf Life Saving Victoria’s Volunteer of the Year and made a life member of the club.
