HISTORY
Campo Morado mine is located in the municipality of Arcelia, State of
Guerrero, about 160 kilometres southwest of Mexico City. The property
consists of 12,000 hectares in six mining concessions in a place that
has historically been an important mining district in this region of
Mexico.
According to history, Campo Morado was discovered in 1885 and after
a few years of exploration, it started operations. It is a mine with an
extensive history, it was key in some historical periods of Mexico such
as the Mexican Revolution, providing metal for coinage.
In January 2011, Nyrstar acquired Farallon Mining LTD, owner of
Campo Morado mine at that time. Since that year, Nyrstar has
managed it. Campo Morado produced significant amounts of zinc and
copper, with contents associated with precious metals like gold and
silver. The daily production capacity before suspension was 2,200
tonnes.
Production at Campo Morado has been suspended since Q1
2015 due to ongoing issues associated with security in the region.
