TESTIMONIALS
Vidya Poshak will never be short of volunteers, resources and donors for
the good work they are doing.
- H. H. Shri Siddeheshwar Swamiji
Jnyan Yogashram, Bijapur.
I really like their effort in finding out the bright but economically
backward students. They keep accounts very transparent. They are
sincere in their efforts. They have touched different parts of the society
and those children without Vidya Poshak help probably would have
perished.
- Smt. Sudha Murty
Chairperson, Infosys Foundation, Bengaluru.
Vidya Poshak is a great organisation that digs out these nuggets of
talent. The question is who should support organisations like Vidya
Poshak. I think the way Vidya Poshak should get funded is by millions
from a few and a few from millions so that every student is supported by
their own community.
- Dr. Gururaj Desh Deshapnde

the meritorious and needy students.

A. Financial Assistance
Unique process for identifying deserving students
A large number of students inevitably opt out of continuing their post 10th education due to
financial difficulties. Vidya Poshak attempts to assist such students to continue their
education and pursue professional or non-professional courses and realize their career
dreams.
Vidya Poshak invites applications from meritorious yet economically challenged students
who have completed their class 10 examinations through its volunteer network. The
volunteers visit the government schools and orient the students about the program and also
wide publicity is given through media to reach out to the student community.
Based on the 10th class results, students are short-listed for home visits to assess the extent
of financial difficulty. Thereafter depending on the merit and home visit reports, the final
list of eligible students will be prepared for assisting them with scholarship, books and
training. The facilitators with the help of local volunteers and well wishers will organise the
financial assistance disbursement programmes in selected locations.
On an average every year more than 1000 house visits are made covering 600 villages/ small
towns from 10 districts of Karnataka. Thanks to our 500 Senior volunteers and student
volunteers who did all the house visit covering more than 25,000 KM .

run at zero cost by the volunteers at their homes.
C. Residential Bridge Camps
We organize Residential Bridge Camps that help students achieve optimal success during and
after their college education. We also found most of the students lacked confidence and
skills because of their socio economic background, which prevented them from performing
well in the selection process / interviews as well as in any public appearance. Attending the
camps addresses and corrects these shortcomings thus enabling the students to secure better
job opportunities so that the entire family gets benefited.
There has been a huge gap between what is learnt in the academic system and the
requirement of the main stream society and the job market. To address all these vital issues
and to transform the students into contributing citizens of the society, the concept of camps
was evolved.
Unique Features
· The camps are residential in nature.
· Ice breakers are conducted to bring the students out of hesitation and inferiority.
· Students are engaged in different activities from morning six to evening eight
throughout the camp duration.
· Life Skill modules recognized by 'WHO' are part of every camp.
· Feedback on each session is taken at the end of the session to better trim our
programs.
Objectives of the Camp:
· To bridge the gap between the formal education and demands of meaningful career.
· To assist students to set and achieve desired career goals.
· To install confidence through skill sets (IQ, EQ and SQ)
· To make them contributively and socially sensitive citizens

Employment Readiness Program
Vidya Poshak is bridging the gap between academic training and industry requirement with
its “Employment Readiness Program”. Hundreds of VP scholars get benefit of this program
along with their B.A, B.Com and B.Sc. courses. This program is mainly started to help the
rural background graduate students who are ill equipped to meet the demands of the
industry due to lack of career guidance and systemic employment training. We at Vidya
Poshak use modern tools and techniques to make the students industry ready.
Vidya Poshak has devised a Five Phased approach to prepare the final year students in
employability. These phases are
1. Counselling: We talk to individual student to understand his/her career aspiration.
A survey form captures data from individual student.
2. Initial Training: Provide training in aptitude, communication and Interview skills.
Conduct an assessment to understand each student's Employability Readiness.
3. Online Training: This phase is for Distance Learning. Vidya Poshak sends material
and test papers on aptitude skills and communication skills using online resources.
The students are expected to complete the tests and use the reference material
hosted on our blog for further preparation.
4. Final Preparation: A 2 day residential camp is conducted for the students after they
complete their final exams. This camp is to give finishing touches to the student's
interview preparations.
5. Interview: Vidya Poshak has worked with several companies in the past and we will
be inviting these companies to interview / select our students.
Vidya Poshak is keen to ensure that maximum numbers of students are able to benefit from
this program irrespective of their geographical location. Since the beginning of the program
in 2013-14, we have helped more than 120 students to secure jobs in below mentioned
companies.
C-DOSS
Centre for Development of Soft Skills
The Need: It is known fact that soft skills and the language abilities enhance the
performance and employability of the student. Though the need of soft skills development
has been widely appreciated by the educational institutes, lack of quality and cost effective
training modules, and non-availability of resource persons has remained a concern. To cater
to this need Vidya Poshak launched Centre for Development of Soft Skills (CDOSS) during
2008.
What is C-DOSS: C-DOSS is a business as well as non profit training cell of Vidya Poshak. This
is developed to cater for the institutions and organizations which can afford to bear the
training costs. The objective is to mobilize funds for the social module as well as for self
sustenance.
C-DOSS conducts workshops for teachers, students, parents and employees. The workshops
would be conducted on invitation from various institutes at their own location. Training cost
depends on number of days and the module of training. The organization also has to bear the
travel and accommodation expenses of the trainers.
So far C-DOSS has impacted around 85,000 youths from various backgrounds.
Training Modules: The centre provides training on different topics. Following are few of the
training topics: Life Skills/Personality Development, Emotion Management, Entrepreneurial
development, Art of Parenting, Career Guidance, Team Building, Leadership, Functional
English, Study Skills, Counselling Techniques, Class Room Management for Teachers etc.
th
We have recently conducted Career Counselling sessions for 10 grade students from rural
High Schools. These sessions identify the abilities and interests of the students to find their
potential. More than 160 careers are mapped to 5 “Potential” like Linguistic, Spatial, and
Arithmetic/Logical, People skills and Physical / Mechanical. On need basis other training
modules also are being prepared and delivered.

Vidya Poshak's Education Loan Awareness
and Advocacy Program (ELAAP)
Education is central to human resources development and empowerment in any country. In
India it is specially so considering the large population of youth that is our demographic
dividend. In order to enable this youth population to acquire the technological and
professional skills, Government of India has formulated a policy of providing Education Loan
and Loan for Vocational Education and Training. These endeavours need propagation to the
corners of the country in order to succeed. Vidya Poshak started the ELAAP project in Sept
2012 to create the awareness of the Model Education Loan Scheme of IBA in the students
aspiring for professional education.
In the first year of its execution, Vidya Poshak created awareness in over 5,500 students
across 52 colleges directly and in nearly 10,000 students through our volunteer network. We
setup helpdesks at the document verification centres of KEA and counselled students in the
process of taking education loan. We have also setup telephone helpdesk. We created a
webpage on our site to provide information 24 X 7 across geographies.
Our efforts to use social media for spreading the education loan information won us the
Manthan award for Social Media and Empowerment at New Delhi amongst more than 130
competing entries.
Our telephone helpline is continuing to provide support and guidance to students facing
difficulty in getting education loan. We trained over 40 facilitators across north Karnataka in
the finer points of education loan and they continue to guide students at local level.
Our Volunteers
The unique feature of Vidya Poshak is that it is community driven. While generous donors
sponsor, around 500 esteemed volunteers elegantly execute the projects. They almost
involve in all the activities of Vidya Poshak right from generating applications, acting as
resource persons in the training programs to raising funds. There are about 200 student
volunteers who also participate in various activities under the guidance of the senior
volunteers.
The following will make anyone eligible to become a Vidya Poshak volunteer.
o Genuine interest in serving student community without any expectation.
o Non prejudiced, secular.
o Willingness to invest few hours every week/month.
o Preferably be a graduate.
o Abiding by the rules and regulations of Vidya Poshak.

EDUCATE & TRANSFORM you have the power to fulfill their DREAMS
"Climbing to the top demands strength,
whether it is to the top of Mount Everest
or to the top of your career."
- Dr. Abdul Kalam
We want that education by which character is formed,
strength of mind is increased, the intellect is expanded,
and by which one can stand on one's own feet."
- Swami Vivekananda
