Frederick J. Waugh. summers ago the Provincetown Art association opened its first exhibition. Since the sixteen S founding of the Association in 1914 it has endeavoredto fill a need and to furnish in its displays a source of pleasure to the public That which experiences no change is dead. This accusationcon hardly be lodged against the Art Association which during the passingyears has experienced many phases of progress ideals vary with individuals. The strongest of these in the History of Art have developed movements or schools with greater or less followings. Even small local groups find their ranks divided by difllerent aims. all of which is a sign of vitality rather than lethargy. The Art Association has always endeavoredto give on its walls a fair expressions to all phases and types of pictorial art. The difficulty however, of harmonizing at the same time in one gallery the more pronounced results of divergent ideals became serious. The Modern Exhibition has therefore been presented the last three seasons by a group of its members as a separate feature. The present showing is by the more conservative group who to an extent, continue in the older traditions and carry on the regular summer exhibition. We hope that in both these displays our old firends and those who are now flrst making our acquaintance may find pleasure N. campbell TRUSTEES Dr. Percival J. eaton Miss Sarah s. Munroe William H.
