Keeping Garden Weeds in Line
Tuesday, July 19. 6:30-8 p.m. Adults, $8.
Meet at Pioneer Farmsteaders’ location, 7000 Garrison St, at 6:30 p.m. for
an optional farm walk to locate and identify certain weeds. Class begins at
7 p.m. in the Nature Center.
JULY CLASSES
Learn about the life cycle of the "enemy" and use that information to manipulate it into submission. See some weeds in their natural state then explore a range of organic methods, from ancient to up-and-coming, for
keeping them in line. Sign up in advance.

Avian Arvada –The Downtown Aquarium Nature Trails
Bring the kids to get lost in the world of wonderful words and fabulous illustrations, from timeless classics to new discoveries, all with a nature theme.

Meet Nathan!
Nathan Casteel joined the Majestic View team in May as a Park Security
Officer, trained and certified through Allied Barton Security. As you
see him around the Nature Center and on his bicycle in the park, be
sure to say “Hi”. Nathan is a big fan of mountain biking and car restoration, an Eagle Scout and native of Colorado. He is excited to take advantage of all of the environmental education opportunities at Majestic
View!

Horses and Neigh-ture at The Arvada Indoor
Equestrian Center
Hands Dirty, Feet Wet – Nature Playdates
Get hands-on with horses while you gain experience on how to be safe
and have fun. Our day camps cover a wide range of topics from riding and
vaulting to barn management. Enjoy some time with the horses, then an
hour connecting with nature though fun and educational activities with
Majestic View Nature Center staff. This camp is a great way to get outdoors, exercise, and learn, all while building self-confidence. The Arvada Indoor Equestrian Center (7650 Indiana St., Arvada 80007) is devoted to
educating all equine enthusiasts. Call 720-394-0191 to register.
Bring your children for a nature playdate in our new “Nature: Explore”
space, where they can climb on logs, jump stump to stump, build forts, dig
in the dirt and connect with their world. No screens, no plans, no slides or
swings, rather loads of unstructured imagination and creativity. Stay as
long as you like, pack a picnic, and enjoy the view! “If we are going to save
environmentalism and the environment, we must also save an endangered

Soil and Water Conservation
Thursdays, July 7 and 14, 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Ages 10 yrs.-adult, $15.
Get your hands dirty, or should we say soily, in this 2 part investigation of
water, soil, and why they are so important to protect. Use hands-on activities and models to get a better understanding of these ecological elements. This program, open to the public, will also fulfill most requirements
for the Boy Scout Merit Badge. Sign up in advance.
Saturday, July 16, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Adults and teens, $5.
Learn proper techniques from a Colorado Master Gardener for saving
seeds and creating your own Heirloom plants. By saving seeds from your
best plants this year, you‘ll save money next year and be on your way to
developing your own heirloom vegetables. Sign up in advance.
• Program registration normally closes the day before a program,
sometimes earlier, so please sign up early. Day of and walk-in registrations may not be accepted. (Story Times are always drop-in).
• If the class does not meet the minimum, it will be canceled. If the
class is full, join the waitlist and we will notify you if a spot opens.

ABOUT THE CENTER
Arvada’s Majestic View Nature Center & Community Park is a valuable resource, providing environmental education and awareness
of our natural resources. The park encompasses over 80 acres, including wetlands, prairie, interpretive trails, demonstration garden,
and a variety of wildlife. The building features hands-on displays,
wildlife exhibits, classrooms, and meeting space. A variety of programs are offered for the general public, school groups, preschools,
scouts, and special interest groups. Programs presented at our site
or yours.
Iceland and the Emirates, A World Apart:
Majestic View Travel Series
Tuesday, July 26, 7 - 8:30 p.m.
Ages 10-adult, $5.
Enjoy a presentation of contrasts from local travelers, Joe and Nickie McMillan. Cool down in Nordic waterfalls, geysers and glaciers from the southern coast of Iceland. Then, warm up with sand, sun, and sweltering heat in
the cities and deserts of the United Arab Emirates. These odd bedfellows,
opposite in many ways, both will leave you intrigued and packing your

Underwater Wildlife at Oak Park
Look below the surface to see what critters live in the lakes and streams of
Colorado. Lift up rocks and dip a net into the lake bottom to meet these
amazing creatures. Meet at Oak Park (64th and Miller St.) to spend a summer afternoon looking for insects, amphibians, reptiles and crayfish. Sign

Celebrate the Migratory Bird Treaty Act Centennial with Chip Clouse, former Education and Outreach Director for the American Birding Association, at The Downtown Aquarium for a summer bird walk along the South
Platte River. Expect to see local birds, and as a bonus, meet some of the
Aquarium’s exotic birds up close and personal. Dress for the weather,
bring water, a snack and binoculars if you have them (a few extras will be
on hand). Meet at the Nautilus Ballroom entrance of the Aquarium (700
Water St., Denver) and bring in your blue ticket for parking validation. Register in advance.
This percussion instrument is one of the oldest forms of a rattle. The sound,
shape, and handle are all uniquely made by the crafter of this great instrument. Come and make your very own with Sarqit Outdoor Living School’s
music instructor. Bring a lunch, and sign up in advance.

have a desire to get your students/children beyond the playground equipment, to discover and explore nature, but aren't sure where to start? This
hands-on, inquiry based active workshop will give you the tools you need

As a new tribe is formed we must find our belonging place and learn to live
together in the wild. Practice survival skills and learn the ways of nature. Join
the experts from Sarqit Outdoor Living School to construct shelter, create fire,
and learn about useful and harmful plants. Hike, play, and explore nature
and discover how to be positive influences for the world. Register at

Tai Chi at Majestic View

Adapted from the Sun form, this Tai Chi is slow, easy flowing and centering.

Preserving your Harvest

What to do with all that extra produce from the garden? Learn about different techniques to preserve your harvest, from dehydration to pickling, canning to infusions. This class will open your eyes to various ways our
foremothers stretched their harvest to last the winter. This is not a “how to”
on canning. Presenter – Sally Berriman, Colorado Master Gardener. Sign up

Open your ears to a new world of words as Pat Martinez, former Spanish
Teacher, brings a language to life. Through nature themed books, songs,

Eco-Caching: Geo-Caching with an Environmental Twist

Use your smart phone to discover the hidden (ecological) gems of Majestic
View Nature Center and Park in this modern day, technology enhanced
scavenger hunt. Find the secret treasures together as a family or wager a
family friendly challenge, either way, adventure awaits. Join us for free family

Mosquitoes and Dragonflies

They may not be your favorite bugs, but mosquitos and dragonflies are fascinating critters for your child to explore. Come for crafts, games, books and

Spider Quest
Learn about turning yard and garden waste into rich compost. We will also
cover techniques for using compost to increase the productivity of your garden. Sign up in advance.

Dive into shark biology, myths, conservation, and then spend some time

Hiking the High Peaks at 40+

You can discover the high country and you don't have to be twenty- something to do it. Learn of the amazing outdoor opportunities within an hour
journey from Arvada and how to keep yourself safe on the 14ers. Taught by
Phil Drahnak, a local who began rock climbing and hiking the high peaks

The secret to delicious lasagna, hummus, and mashed potatoes? Garlic of
course. October is a good time to plant garlic, so come learn about good varieties for the Front Range, growing techniques, and storage tips. Taste a few

Water Wise! The Science and Conservation of Water
Free for Arvada 6th grade students. Topics include: the importance of water, the water cycle, Arvada resident water use
and source, conserving water. Students conduct a water conservation contest at home. Teachers, call us to set up a presentation in your classroom.

A Scientific & Cultural Facilities District
Tier III grant assists in funding this program, a Pre-K-6th grade science curriculum in which students learn
environmental education concepts utilizing the 80-acre park and facilities.
Students participate in multiple handson activities. Topics are specific to grade
level and science standards based.

Avian Arvada: Two Ponds Wildlife Refuge

Join an Audubon Master Birder of the Front Range Birding Company at Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge for a late summer bird

Phil Drahnak, a local who began rock climbing and hiking the high peaks

The secret to delicious lasagna, hummus, and mashed potatoes? Garlic of
course. October is a good time to plant garlic, so come learn about good varieties for the Front Range, growing techniques, and storage tips. Taste a few

Free for Arvada 6th grade students. Topics include: the importance of water, the water cycle, Arvada resident water use

Keeping Garden Weeds in Line
Tuesday, July 19. 6:30-8 p.m. Adults, $8.
Meet at Pioneer Farmsteaders’ location, 7000 Garrison St, at 6:30 p.m. for
an optional farm walk to locate and identify certain weeds. Class begins at
7 p.m. in the Nature Center.
JULY CLASSES
Learn about the life cycle of the "enemy" and use that information to manipulate it into submission. See some weeds in their natural state then explore a range of organic methods, from ancient to up-and-coming, for
keeping them in line. Sign up in advance.

Nathan Casteel joined the Majestic View team in May as a Park Security
Officer, trained and certified through Allied Barton Security. As you
see him around the Nature Center and on his bicycle in the park, be

Hands Dirty, Feet Wet – Nature Playdates
Get hands-on with horses while you gain experience on how to be safe
and have fun. Our day camps cover a wide range of topics from riding and
vaulting to barn management. Enjoy some time with the horses, then an
hour connecting with nature though fun and educational activities with
Majestic View Nature Center staff. This camp is a great way to get outdoors, exercise, and learn, all while building self-confidence. The Arvada Indoor Equestrian Center (7650 Indiana St., Arvada 80007) is devoted to

Bring your children for a nature playdate in our new “Nature: Explore”
space, where they can climb on logs, jump stump to stump, build forts, dig

Get your hands dirty, or should we say soily, in this 2 part investigation of
water, soil, and why they are so important to protect. Use hands-on activities and models to get a better understanding of these ecological elements. This program, open to the public, will also fulfill most requirements

Learn proper techniques from a Colorado Master Gardener for saving
seeds and creating your own Heirloom plants. By saving seeds from your
best plants this year, you‘ll save money next year and be on your way to
developing your own heirloom vegetables. Sign up in advance.

Arvada’s Majestic View Nature Center & Community Park is a valuable resource, providing environmental education and awareness
of our natural resources. The park encompasses over 80 acres, including wetlands, prairie, interpretive trails, demonstration garden,
and a variety of wildlife. The building features hands-on displays,
wildlife exhibits, classrooms, and meeting space. A variety of programs are offered for the general public, school groups, preschools,

Look below the surface to see what critters live in the lakes and streams of

Celebrate the Migratory Bird Treaty Act Centennial with Chip Clouse, former Education and Outreach Director for the American Birding Association, at The Downtown Aquarium for a summer bird walk along the South
Platte River. Expect to see local birds, and as a bonus, meet some of the
Aquarium’s exotic birds up close and personal. Dress for the weather,
bring water, a snack and binoculars if you have them (a few extras will be
on hand). Meet at the Nautilus Ballroom entrance of the Aquarium (700
Water St., Denver) and bring in your blue ticket for parking validation. Register in advance.
This percussion instrument is one of the oldest forms of a rattle. The sound,
