The Relais & Chateaux Hermitage Hotel & Spa is placed at 6500ft, at the foot of the
Matterhorn. The hotel differentiates itself not only by it’s attention of details but also by it’s
close relations with the traditions and history, maintained over time by the Neyroz family, who
has been running the hotel since the very beginning, 1975. The care and maintenance of the
structure is always done with a cautious hand. The last renovations where made in 2015.
Situated on the south side of the Matterhorn, Cervinia is one of the highest ski area in the
Alps, peaking nearly 4.000meters, and one of the few crossing the Italian-Swiss border. In
Cervinia-Zermatt you can find one of the longest winter seasons with a lot of snow.
You are welcomed with friendliness like in a private household without the nuisance of the
formality of the big city hotels. Breuil-Cervinia is a small village where traditions has been
always respected: most important the one of hospitality! The common parts of the hotel are
equipped in an impeccable way and invite immediately to stay some days. Presented as a big
chalet, following the authentic mountain traditions with warm, dark wooden interiors the hotel
has a welcoming, yet exclusive atmosphere. The drawing room with the big fireplace in the
centre, enriched with a parquet of the 17th century, restored from an old refuge. The materials
are all valuable, perfect in styling also in the finest details.
Who wishes to have more space and luxury during the holiday (not only on the skies) could
reserve one of the wonderful suites of the Hermitage, like the suite “Cervino” or the Whymper
Suite, which offer warmth and romantic moments with the lighted fireplace in the evening, too.
Wood is dominating the furnishing together with other valuable materials as the marble in the
bathrooms and the precious stone of the Italian Alps. Decorations and antic stamps embellish
the ambiance and provide a sophisticated and refined atmosphere.
The Hotel offers 10 Classic rooms, 19 Superior rooms, 4 Deluxe with fireplace and Jacuzzi,
2 Suite Prestige, 1 Family Suite: Caterina di Challand and 2 Master Suites: Guido Rey and
Edward Whymper. All the rooms and suites have private balcony. (see page 5)

The kitchen is another unmistakable part that characterizes the stay at the Relais & Chateaux
Hermitage, with plates of big perfection, expression of the tradition of the Aosta Valley,
prepared with passion and professionalism. A cuisine dedicated to the tastes of the past, which
expresses the love to these mountains and the respect to the centuries-old customs, hand
down from the Neyroz family from father to son, preserving the fortune of the gastronomic
heritage. A carefully choice of ingredients of regional products is guaranteeing the high quality
of the restaurant.
The wine list offers an assortment of some of the most precious wines ever produced. The
finest Italian and foreign bottles, in total there are more than 600 different wine labels to
chose from. In our wine cellar we organize wine tasting and private dinners with different
themes, where we pair wine and appetizers.

A vacation at the Hermitage is over all about sports. The chalet is situated close to the ski lifts
and pistes and the cross country ski ring is just a stone throw away.
During the summer, apart from breathtaking summer skiing, it’s possible to enjoy a round of
golf, at the 18 hole golf course; the first in Aosta Valley and the highest altitude course in
Italy, or an hiking on panoramic trails from lodge to lodge.

The legend behind the hotel
The story goes that Saint Theodulus crossed the Alps in the early Middle Ages to convert the
inhabitants of what is, today, Switzerland, travelling through the Breuil valley (2,000 metres.)
Legend has it that he stopped to rest in a stone hut in a larch wood at the foot of the
Matterhorn before starting the long climb up to the pass at 3,500 meters which is known today
as the Colle del Teodulo.
Today, the Hotel Hermitage (the Hermitage of St. Theodulus) stands on the pleasant site
where this little hut was once situated.
