Page 4 The San Antonio Express and News called our Mission Fest, “the best Fiesta event.” It is such high praise for an event that consumed the lives of our Festival organizers and planners. KSAT/ABC and KXTN/ Univision gave us great coverage and exposure. John Gary Herrera , our 2015 Rey Feo; Alixzandria Peña the 2015 Fiesta Queen; and Kamilah Avery, the 2015 San Antonio Queen of Soul were some of the our guests at our festival. It is easy to see why the Express and News reporter praised our parish festival because of the people that came to walk and be on our church grounds. Hard working and playing families, many young and old, longtime natives and tourists who wandered in from the National Park came and had a great time. There was much dancing in any available spot around the mass of seated music lovers. I could hear the shrieks of the children as the Ferris wheel stopped and playfully “stranded” them at the top. Everywhere I looked I saw so many happy people having a great time. It was a blessed day. Your prayers insured that the weather cooperated and we had a spectacularly beautiful day. It was a day with sun and a constant cool breeze that gave those in the shade many blessings. It was only after it was over and the cleanup well on its way that it rained. An old Muslim saying says that God will help only until one has done all they possibly can. A good many people did all they possibly could months before and especially last weekend. I can imagine the following list of parishioners, painted in gold letters, surrounded by pearls and jewels placed high in our church, where only God and those who would climb could read it. Gracie and Willie Acuña Alice Rivera Gilbert “Grouch” Villarreal Thelma and Leonard Frias Lydia Muriel Sister Peggy Stovall Jean and Jesse Pacheco Greg Martinez Carlos Cruz Xavier and Joanne Delgado Diana Rodriguez Angie Rivera Hilda Acosta Carol Killin Kathy and John Brown Andrew Anguiano Anna and Arcadio Solíz Liz and Mike Benavídez Jack and Diane Price Luis Espejo and family Alice and Manuel Ontiveros Gilbert and Rosemary Jimenez These wonderful people did the hard work and dealt constantly with the “shadow” of any event. Many conflicts, difficult and angry people, broken equipment, unforeseen movements of heavy fencing and equipment were some of the things all handled by these kind people. I also want to thank Constable Blount and his staff, the SAPD and the National Park Service for their presence that kept potential problems at a minimum. Of course there are many others who worked hard that day at food and ticket booths and the bingo game. But those named above gave more than a day, and some weeks leading up to Mission Fest. I am so grateful to you and the precious gift you gave to Mission San Jose -their time and energy. Thank you for so many who did so much to give to our community a day of fun and music, and outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Fr. Tony Posadas, O.F.M.
