TOUR DEPARTURE WITH
GROUPS OF 4 OR MORE
Our group departure package tours are a great way to see the best the
country has to offer in a way that allows you to kick back and relax with
a tour leader by your side for the whole journey. Our tour leaders will get
to know you and customise the tour to interest you, not just what the
mainstream tours are doing. They will give you the confidence to try new
things and get to know the locals. There is a great balance of organised
activities and free time so that you will have the opportunity to explore on
your own or relax in holiday mode.
Another great reason to take a group departure is that you will be
travelling with other like-minded people who enjoy travel and love
adventure. You will go home with a whole bunch of new friends. Plus
you will always have someone to take a photo of you!
Perhaps one of the most attractive reasons for some travellers is the
savings to be made. This is definitely one of the most economical ways to
take a tour.
Our group departures are guaranteed to depart with a minimum of 4
passengers based on twin share.
The dates of departure are listed, however you can choose your own date
if these are unsuitable. You simply need a group of 4 or more to receive
the same benefits.

TRIP ADVISOR REVIEW:
“Originally my partner and I booked just for the two of us, we combined the 18 day Vietnam Tour, including
two-days trekking in Sa Pa, with 2 days in the Mekong Delta and 4 days in Cambodia. Wide Eyed Tours were
excellent at customising the tour for us, as we changed a few of the hotels because of personal preference they made all the calls to us and sent us our own bespoke itinerary“. Marsha M. April 2014

EXPERIENCE VIETNAM
IN BRIEF
VISA
Vietnam is 1,650km long and has
a coastline of 3,260km and at its
narrowest section is only 50km wide.
It shares a border with China, Laos and
Cambodia and has 54 ethnic minority
groups. It has three distinct climates
divided into north, central and south.
The northern climate can be very
chilly in January and February with
temperatures getting below
12c but feeling more like 8c.
CURRENCY
A visa for most nationalities is required
for Vietnam and single entry tourist
visas are issued for 30 days. Allow 10
days for processing and consult your
travel agent.
The local currency is Vietnam Dong
(VND) and all ATMs dispense VND only.
In some cases US Dollar is accepted,
however it is best to convert your USD
to VND or extract cash from the ATM.
ELECTRICITY
Voltage is 220/230V AC throughout
Vietnam. Travellers are advised to bring
an adaptor.
FOOD & WATER
Vietnamese cuisine is famous for its
freshness and flavour with some of
the best meals served on the street.
Part of the experience is sampling
the vast range of delicious food here.
Drinking water from the tap is not
recommended and bottled water is
available for purchase throughout
Vietnam.
MEKONG RIVER LUXURY CRUISES
The Mekong River is one of the world’s most
amazing waterways, flowing through six
countries from its origin on the Tibetan Plateau
to its final destination in Vietnam. It is the
lifeblood of South East Asia and considered to
be one of the world’s five biodiversity hotspots.
Life on the river is diverse and fascinating and
the very best way to enjoy this spectacle is from
the comfort of a luxury cruise ship.
The relaxed pace of a river cruise will allow
you to enjoy the colourful scenery in comfort
and style. Exquisitely decorated with teak
and brass, the luxury ships are elegant and
luxurious, bringing forth an atmosphere of
centuries past. With full board inclusive, each
day you will enjoy a fabulous choice of local
cuisine and exotic foods.
8
Wide Eyed Tours www.wideeyedtours.com
When you are not reclining on the promenade
deck you can enjoy one of the many excursions
included along the journey and leave the ship
with our local guides for a deeper exploration
by a small boat, horse and cart or perhaps a
cyclo.
Due to low water levels, there are no cruises
available during the months of May and June.

MYANMAR
IN BRIEF
Myanmar is officially known as the
Republic of the Union of Myanmar,
changed by the military in 1989.
However, some countries have not
recognised this change and continue to
use its former name of Union
of Burma.
With a population of 65 million and
135 different ethnic groups, Myanmar
is one of the poorest nations in
Southeast Asia, suffering from decades
of stagnation, mismanagement and
isolation. The infrastructure still has
a long way to go and suffers from a
lack of hotels and unreliable internal
transport. The Burmese people are
gentle and supremely welcoming. This
is an amazing country to visit which
will leave a lasting impression.
Yangon is the capital city and where
you can visit one of Buddhism’s most
holy sites, the magnificent Schwedagon
Pagoda which is adorned with 27
metric tons of gold leaf. North east
of Yangon is Inle Lake where you can
see stilt-house villages and floating
gardens of the Intha tribe. On a 5 day
cycle, markets are hosted by
Pa-O, Shan, Taung Yo, Danu, Kayah and
Danaw tribes around the edges of
the lake.
Bagan features an impressive collection
of ancient temples and is home of
traditional Burmese lacquerware
production. Located on the banks
of the Irrawaddy River, the city of
Mandalay is the economic hub of
upper Myanmar.
MYANMAR
WHEN The best time is between November
and February when it rains the least
and the temperatures are not too hot.
March to May is extremely hot and the
rainy season is in full swing from July
to September.
VISA With the incredible growth and
political changes in progress, the visa
situation for Myanmar is in constant
flux. Getting a visa is more involved
than obtaining visas for other countries
in Southeast Asia so be sure to allow at
least 3 weeks for processing.
CURRENCY
Myanmar’s national currency is the
kyat (pronounced chat) and US dollars
can be changed at the Yangon airport,
banks and some hotels. ATMs are
not readily available so it is advisable
to bring your spending money in US
dollars with you. The bills should be
unmarked and in excellent condition
as money changers will regularly reject
damaged notes.
ELECTRICITY
Travellers are advised to bring an
adaptor with a surge protector (surges
are common in Myanmar).

LAOS
IN BRIEF
Laos or Lao? The official name of the country is
Lao People’s Democratic Republic, however both
terms (Laos and Lao) are correct and used by
both the government and the people. It has a
population of about 6.5 million, a third of which
live below the international poverty line.
Laos is a tranquil place to visit, even the capital
city of Vientiane moves slowly at its own
pace. Further north is the charming town of
Luang Prabang where you can see hundreds
of saffron-robed monks move silently as they
collect the early morning offerings in the streets
from the locals. Away from the cities you can
visit the mysterious Plain of Jars, the market
town of Pakse, the dramatic limestone karsts of
Vang Vieng and enjoy the Lao wilderness and
stunning waterfalls.
Visa A 30 day tourist visa is available upon arrival and
costs $35 USD at the time of writing. You will
also need 2 passport photos.
LAOS
Currency Laos’ currency is the Lao Kip, however US dollars
and Thai baht are also used. The 3 currencies
are readily accepted in larger cities and towns,
however in smaller towns and villages, kip is
usually preferred. ATMs are only available in
Vientiane with a low maximum withdrawal
amount of less than $100 USD. Travellers are
recommended to bring their spending money
with you.
THAILAND

Known as The Land of Smiles, Thailand is a
destination for everyone. Most people choose
between the Northern and Central regions;

on the Gulf of Thailand; Koh Samui, Koh Phan
Ngan, Koh Tao, Hua Hin & Koh Chang or those
on the west coast on the Andaman Sea; Phuket,
Krabi, Koh Phi, Khao Lak and Koh Lanta.
Visa Most nationalities do not require a visa. Thai
immigration officials will place an immigration
stamp in your passport permitting a 30-day stay
in Thailand if arriving by air or a 15-day stay if
arriving by land. Bring 2 passport photos in case
you need a visa extension.
Currency Thai Baht is the official currency and there is

EXPERIENCE S.E. ASIA WITH WIDE EYED TOURS
BASIC INFORMATION
WHAT TO TAKE
What you need to bring will vary according
to the trip style you have chosen, and when
you are travelling. Generally speaking though,
you should pack as lightly as possible. There
may be instances where you will have to carry
your own luggage, and though you will not be
required to walk long distances, we recommend
keeping the weight light. Suitcases are not
recommended. Most travellers carry their
luggage in a backpack, although an overnight
bag with a shoulder strap would suffice if you
travel lightly. Smaller bags with wheels are
acceptable, although we recommend your bag
has carry straps as well, as you may be required
to negotiate bus and railway station steps. You
will also need a day pack/bag to carry water and
a camera etc for day walks and day trips.
MEALS
While travelling with us you will experience the
vast array of wonderful food available in the
region. Generally, to give you the maximum
flexibility in deciding where, what and with
whom to eat, not all meals are included in the
trip price. This also gives you more budgeting
flexibility. As a rule our groups tend to eat
together to enable you to taste a larger variety
of dishes and enjoy each other‘s company.
There is no obligation to do this though. Your
group leader will be able to suggest favourite
restaurants during your trip. Please check the
itinerary for details of meals included. Breakfast
is included in all hotels where you have stayed
the previous night.
SINGLE TRAVELLERS
Our group trips are designed for shared
accommodation. Single travellers are paired in
twin share accommodation with someone of the
same sex for the duration of the trip. (Pre- and
post-trip accommodation will be booked on a
single room basis.) If we are unable to find you
a roommate you will have your own room. If
you are single and would like the guarantee of
a single room you will be required to pay the
single supplement.
IMPORTANT NOTES
During the months of May to November areas
of the region are prone to heavy rains. While
we continue to run successful trips during this
period, please note that our itineraries are
subject to change as the conditions require
TRAVEL INSURANCE
Travel insurance is compulsory for all our trips.
We require that, at a minimum, you are covered
for medical expenses including emergency
repatriation. We strongly recommend that the
policy also covers personal liability, cancellation,
curtailment and loss of luggage, personal effects
and repatriation. When travelling on a group
trip, you will not be permitted to join the tour
until evidence of travel insurance has been
sighted by your leader. If you have credit card
insurance your tour leader will require proof of
purchase (a receipt or credit card statement)
with a credit card in your name. Contact your
bank for details of their participating insurer,
the level of coverage and emergency contact
telephone number.
62 Wide Eyed Tours www.wideeyedtours.com
VISAS
It is the responsibility of the individual traveller
to ensure all visa and entry requirements are
met prior to arrival. The visa requirements will
vary depending on where you are from. It is
your responsibility to arrange visas before you
travel and your travel agent can assist. You
will need to organise a visa for Vietnam prior
to arrival and this can be done through our
office. Allow 2 weeks. For short holidays in
Thailand, if you are one of 40 nationalities that
qualify, you will not need a visa. Tourist Visas
for Cambodia can be obtained upon arrival for
US$25 and you will also need a passport photo.
Tourist visas for Laos are easily obtained upon
arrival.
MONEY EXCHANGE
Currency exchange rates often fluctuate.
For the most up to date rates please refer
to the following website: www.xe.com. US
currency (cash or traveller‘s cheques) is the
most convenient to carry when travelling in the
region. However it can be difficult to change
travellers cheques outside the big cities. Cash
in US dollars can be used to directly purchase
goods and services along with the local
currencies, Vietnamese Dong, Laos Kip, Thai
Baht and Cambodian Riel (although the latter
is in limited use). Other major international
currencies may be exchanged in the main
cities, where Visa and MasterCard may also be
used for cash advances. ATMs are available in
most large towns and the hotels we use offer
exchange services at a reasonable rate. It is not
possible to exchange local currencies outside
the countries so convert or spend it all before
leaving. Black markets are reemerging but are
considered a danger and best avoided.
SPENDING MONEY
Every traveller is different and therefore
spending money requirements will vary. Some
travellers may drink more than others, while
other travellers like to purchase more souvenirs
than most. Please consider your own spending
habits when it comes to allowing for drinks,
shopping and tipping. Please also remember
that Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand
have a culture that is used to negotiating.
Expect to negotiate for most items.
TIPPING GUIDE
For your leader we recommend $3 USD a day.
For drivers and local guides we recommend $2
USD a day.
COMMUNICATION WHILE AWAY
If you need to be contacted while travelling we
recommend that you set up an email address.
Email has quickly become the preferred way for
our leaders and travellers to stay in touch and
email cafes are commonplace throughout the
regions we visit. If someone wishes to contact
you in an emergency while you are on one of
our trips we recommend that they contact your
local booking agent, or refer to our Emergency
Contact. We don‘t recommend that family and
friends try to contact you through hotels, as
they are subject to change, and the reception
staff may not speak English. Please note that
mobile phones on a GSM or Global Roam
network may not work in some rural areas
YOUR FELLOW TRAVELLERS
As you travel on a group trip you will be
exposed to all the pleasures and maybe some
of the frustrations of travelling in a group.
Your fellow travellers will probably come from
all corners of the world and a range of age
groups too. We ask you to be understanding
of the various needs and preferences of your
group – patience with your fellow travellers is
sometimes required for the benefit of everyone‘s
travel experience. Remember too that you have
responsibilities to the group. If you are requested
to be at a place at a certain time, ensure that
you don‘t keep the rest of the group waiting.
We have found time and time again that the
very best trips we operate are those where the
dynamics within the group work well – this
takes just a little effort on your part.
LAUNDRY
Facilities are offered by most hotels for a fee.
There will be times when you may want to or
have to do your own laundry so we suggest you
bring non-polluting/biodegradable soap.
LOCAL DRESS
When packing be aware that dress standards
are conservative throughout this region. Loose,
lightweight, long clothing is both respectful
and cool in the predominantly hot Asian
climate. In winter months the extra length
will keep you warm! Generally speaking, neat
and tidy clothing is appreciated. Shorts should
be knee length and singlets/tank tops are not
recommended.
RESPONSIBLE TRAVEL
We believe strongly in low impact or rather
positive impact tourism. Broadly speaking this
means that we try to minimise the negative
aspects of tourism on the local cultures and
environments that we visit and highlight the
positive aspects.
TRAVELLING WITH WIDE EYED TOURS
RULES
Illegal drugs will not be tolerated on our trips.
Possessing or using drugs not only contravenes
the laws of the land but also puts the rest
of the group at risk. Smoking marijuana and
opium is a part of local culture in some parts of
the world but is not acceptable for Wide Eyed
Tours travellers. Wide Eyed Tours philosophy of
travel is one of respect towards everyone we
encounter, and in particular the local people
who make our destinations such special places.
The exploitation of prostitutes is completely
contrary to this philosophy. Our group leader
has the right to expel any member of the group
if drugs are found in their possession or if they
use prostitutes.
TRANSPORTATION
We take the hassle out of your travel, for most
set departure tours, arrival and departure
transfers are included. We also ensure that
transport for all group activities and meals is
taken care of on all our tours.
