Gardeners who sell fresh vegetables
and flowers. In summer they produce all
kinds of salads, vegetables (carrots,
different kind of tomatoes, sweet
peppers, onions, broccoli, turnip, radish,
zucchini) and herbs. In winter the range
of their own products is reduced, but
they maintain a variety a supply of
salads and vegetables which they buy at
the big market in Nürnberg.
Visitors are always invited to stroll through the
hothouses where flowers are grown all year
round!

products is good enough for a basic
equipment for a short term household.
The shop offers a small range of basic
clothing (underwear, socks, pyjamas,

centre’s pedestrian zone. Large range of
branded products in all departments.
No foodstuffs. At the back of the
department store (entrance: Kanalstraße) there is an outlet where Karstadt
sells last items of clothing collections and
shoes at reduced prices. Some household goods like plates, cups, decoration
stuff etc. are also sold at a reduced
price.

Includes an incredibly large selection in

Largest vegetable and fruit shop in
Bayreuth. Prime quality veggies and
fruits from all over the world. A little bit
more expensive than Nos. 10 and 15.
They sell fresh mixed fruit juices
prepared under your very eyes.
20. Metzgerei Gabler
Despite the pink design of the shop, this
is a typical German butchery, selling
meat that farmers of the area have
produced. Good and reliable quality.
They sell all sort of warm snacks based
on their products.
21. Brunner Bäckerei
Not the best but an average bakery with
a coffee shop enclosed.

5. The weekly market in the Rotmainhalle
Twice a week, local producers come to Bayreuth to sell their products in the
somewhat rundown Rotmainhalle, which sits right next to the Romtain-Center. In fact,
the Rotmain Center was basically built around the Rotmainhalle, because its
destruction was heavily protested by locals when the first plans to build the shopping
mall were published.
In wintertime, the selection is smaller, but nevertheless you find local farmers selling
potatoes, meat, vegetables, flowers, fish, bread, cheese etc. etc. You might come
across an old lady only selling little flower bouquets she has gathered in her garden
or a beekeeper who still sells his quality product despite his old age.
In summer, the fruit stands between Rotmain Center and Rotmainhalle will attract
your attention rapidly. A fish farmer from the Franconian Switzerland, the region
between Bayreuth and Nürnberg, visits the market every Saturday and sells fresh
eel, trout, carp, pickerel and samlet.
The market takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 6 – 12 am. It is a very
lively place where people from all walks of life meet to enjoy the colourful display of
local products.

10. Second-hand shop for furniture
There is one shop for second-hand furniture in Bayreuth which operate on donations
they receive from people who don’t want to take all their belongings when they move,
from elderly people moving to old-age homes or simply when people give away their
old furniture. The furniture arriving in the shops are cleaned and refurbished before
being sold.
The shop is social welfare-projects in which long term unemployed people get a
chance to work and gain useful skills to enhance their chances to find a permanent
job. Both shops are located in Bayreuth’s industrial area. Experience shows, if you go
there regularly you might be lucky and stumble across a great piece of furniture or
clothing that you would have never expected to find in such a place and at such a low
price.
