Special
Guest:
Weaving is one of the main ways to create fabric – and
weaving by hand with a simple loom is a relaxing and
creative way to make beautiful hangings for your wall
or small items like scarves.
Rainie Williams is mad about weaving and has designed some beautiful
bamboo looms to help people get started. Rainie will join us at the show
as our guest artist.

THE FABRIC TRAIL
SAlt Exhibition 2016
The work displayed reflects the artists’ unique and highly personal responses to the five themes – the physical journey, the
emotional, spiritual, creative and the journey of discovery.
SAlt (South Australian living textiles) is a group of six independent textiles practitioners. Collaboratively the SAlt group sets
challenges to inspire, explore, extend, respond to, critique and reflect on each theme. The six members are: Judy Bushby,
Suzanne Gummow, Julie Haddrick, Francie Mewett, Sara Bell Smith and newcomer Wendy Thiele.

The Medieval Project
Created and Curated by Guest Artist Dijanne Cevaal
Starting its exhibition life at Pour l’Amour du Fil
in Nantes, France and now on tour in Australia,
this textile art project is rich in history and colour.
This project has been initiated by renowned Australian textile designer and our special guest
artist at the show, Dijanne Cevaal, with additional contributions from textile artists from
around Australia.
Techniques showcased include embroidery, linocut, hand dyeing, stitching, layering, quilting
and embellishing, ensuring this textile display will stand the test of time. Each piece has been
hand printed, and is particularly beautiful in the cloth.
MEET GUEST
ARTIST,
DIJANNE CEVAAL
Don’t miss Dijanne
demonstrating various textile
art techniques. She will also
discuss the Medieval Project
and the inspiration behind the
images featured in a floor talk at
12.30pm each day.
The linocut designs for this project have been inspired by the medieval period in France
known for its rich tapestries and embroideries, in particular the figures on the Royal Portal at
Chartres Cathedral and the lady and the Unicorn tapestry in the Cluny Musee in Paris. The
Medieval Project radiates colour and inspiration from this important part of history.
Dijanne Cevaal is a renowned
Australian textile artist, teacher,
author, and experienced curator
and organiser of international
exhibitions. These travelling
exhibitions have showcased the
work of Australian textile artists
in Europe, the Middle East,
South Africa, New Zealand
and Australia.
Dijanne’s own work has also
been exhibited around the world
in both group and solo
exhibitions. “I love to
dye and print fabrics
and assemble them
into quilts with lots of
stitching both by hand
and machine. I also
create my own linocuts
for printing on fabric.”

Antique Lace Display
Giving all kids creativity
Lace is one of the most exquisite and fascinating
textiles – and it has a rich and intriguing history.
Expertise Events, organisers of The Stitches & Craft Show, has introduced a
new initiative in 2016 – the Craft for Kids Foundation. The Foundation is for the
collection and distribution of craft supplies, to give to charities for children in
their care to use in craft activities.
Joyce Needham has a wonderful collection of antique lace and pieces of lace
with special significance including samples dating back to the 1500s.
A highlight of her collection is a piece of the Calais lace cut by the
Queen and President Mitterand to open the Channel Tunnel, and
she also has a piece of the lace used for Kate Middleton’s
wedding dress for her betrothal to Prince William. See
Joyce’s collection on display at the show.
FLOORTALK 1pm daily
Join Joyce for a floortalk where she will be
tracing the history of lace through the
centuries and give a fascinating insight
into her collection.
Presented by the World of Lace
Craft allows children to explore their creativity and is pure expression through their eyes
with no rules or boundaries. The materials they work with are tactile, colourful and varied
and provide children of all capacities the ability to explore; with the satisfaction of making
something as a gift or to keep.
Craft for Kids Foundation will donate craft supplies to charities that care for Australian
children who are physically, emotionally, financially or geographically disadvantaged.
Expertise Events are also committing their craft experts to design and produce projects
that they will teach the children to make at special events.
You are invited to bring in your unwanted craft supplies and place them in the special
Craft for Kids Foundation area at the show. Your donation will be stored in Expertise
Events’ warehouse then delivered to charities once or twice yearly, as agreed.
Craft items you can donate include yarn, fabric, paper, lace, braid, craft tools,
glue, embellishments.
Items that won’t be accepted include: money, unfinished
projects, knitting needles, crochet hooks or pattern books.
