Description
The names "Porsche" and "Speedster" instantly call to mind one of the most exciting and sought after models ever produced by the German automaker, a
simpler, stripped down roadster version of the Porsche 356.
Fast forward 30 more years, and the "Speedster" name was to be revived by what is one of the most exclusive Porsche models ever produced, the Porsche
911 Carrera Speedster. Offered over a single year of manufacturing in 1989, just 2,104 examples were produced, featuring the low cut wind shield
reminiscent of the original, and the quintessential fiberglass tonneau cover with twin humps. Like its predecessor the 911 Speedster was stripped down of
luxuries utilising manual windows, removal of the rear seats, and even using a minimal single-layer fabric top for emergencies.
Cut from the same cloth as the immensely popular 3.2 Carrera from 1984, the Speedster was fitted with a rear mounted, air cooled flat-six producing 231
horsepower at 5900 rpm, accelerating the car from 0-60mph in just 5.4 seconds with a top speed of 152 mph. Power-assisted and ventilated disc brakes were
mounted at all four corners, with an 11.8-inch diameter in the front and a 12.1-inch diameter in the rear.
This Turbo Bodied example offered for sale by DK Engineering, is one of only 139 RHD models produced, was delivered to its first owner and fastidious
collector, Prince Jefri of Brunei on 8th November 1989. Being ordered in Guards Red with a Black Leatherette interior and an extensive list of options
including Turbo look body, comfort seats, Porsche radio, shorter shift gear lever and Air conditioning.
After keeping the car for almost 21 years, the car was imported to the UK in 2010. To assure the car drove as new, the car was recommissioned by Northway
DK Engineering, Little Green Street Farm, Green Street, Chorleywood, Herts, WD3 6EA
Porsche in July 2011 including a full major service when the odometer showed just 900 Km from new.
Since being with DK the car has recently benefitted from a major service at the well-respected independent Porsche Specialist Jaz. Being used so sparingly
since new, the car shows an unrepeatable odometer reading of 990 Km and retains its original books, guarantee, and tools amongst further additional
documents.
