2016 Campaign: Build A Better Tomorrow
LIVE UNITED
Annual Campaign: All donations are raised from September to November through the generosity of corporate, employee and individual giving. The campaign helps
donors to increase their knowledge and understanding of, access to and involvement with the Schuylkill United Way and its 15 Partner Agencies.
Capt. Jason B. Jones Memorial Day of Caring: The SUW Staff and Board of Directors is humbled at the privilege of honoring Capt. Jason B. Jones, a Schuylkill
County native who put service to his community and country above all else. The 2nd Annual Capt. Jason B. Jones Memorial Day of Caring will occur on Friday, May
13th, 2016. The day of volunteering occurs the second Friday in May.
Emergency Food & Shelter Program (EFSP): The Schuylkill United Way serves as the local administrator for the FEMA program which provides funds to supplement
and extend current available resources for emergency needs including rent, food and energy assistance. In recent years, funds have been greatly diminished. However,
the money we do receive is distributed to six local organizations: Catholic Charities, Pottsville Salvation Army, Tamaqua Salvation Army, Schuylkill Women In Crisis,
Schuylkill Community Action, and Council of Churches Schuylkill Haven & Vicinity.
PA 2-1-1: Pennsylvania 2-1-1 East is a free, confidential, non-emergency, comprehensive information and referral service that connects Schuylkill County residents
with the health and human services they need. 2-1-1 for Schuylkill County is powered by the Schuylkill United Way with support and partnership with PA 2-1-1 East.
Pacesetters Club: Pacesetters “set the pace” for the Annual Campaign. Members of the Pacesetters Club are individuals throughout Schuylkill County who
contribute a minimum of $500 towards the Annual Campaign. Levels of giving range from Copper ($500-$749) through Platinum ($2,500+) depending on contribution
amount.
Prescription Assistance: The FamilyWize Prescription Discount Card (www.familywize.org) is available to anyone. Since the program launched in 2008, Schuylkill
County residents have saved over $1,000,000 on the cost of prescriptions. The card is free, however, it only provides discounts on the medicine, not free medicine.
Stamp Out Hunger: The largest one-day food drive in the nation, the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) holds the Stamp Out Hunger food drive every
second Saturday in May. According to USPS, nearly 1,500 NALC branches in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands are
involved. Letter carriers represented by the National Association of Letter Carriers (AFL-CIO), with help from rural letter carriers, additional postal employees and
volunteers, run this drive which has delivered more than one billion pounds of food in the past 20 years. The Schuylkill United Way is a proud partner in this food
drive.
Stuff the Bus: A month long school supply drive held each July. In 2015 Stuff the Bus collected 1,200 backpacks, stuffed them with school su pplies and distributed
them to SUW Partner Agencies to be given to children in need in Schuylkill County.
In 2015, the Schuylkill United Way participated with the following organizations for the betterment of Schuylkill County: State Employee Combined Appeal (SECA),
United Way of Pennsylvania Public Policy Committee, Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO), Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce, Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce Nonprofit Committee, Emergency Food & Shelter Program (EFSP), Pottsville Kiwanis, and Schuylkill County Youth Summit.
