Sicily Day Trip Itinerary
From the food markets in Syracuse to the iconic Godfather locations, Sicily is a destination just waiting to be
enjoyed – and it’s just across the water!
No trip to this part of the world is complete without the added bonus of being able to hop over to
Italy’s little sister, Sicily. Because, while it is only
a short boat trip away from Malta, Sicily will give you
the chance to sample a completely different type of
Mediterranean culture, food, sights and fun.
Your day will start with an early pick-up and a highspeed ferry trip over to the Sicilian port town of
Pozallo, one-and-a-half hours away.
Once on land, we’ll take an hour-long drive through
the pretty Sicilian landscape to Syracuse – the home of Archimedes and the colourful Ortygia
Markets. Here you’ll get really stuck in to one of the most enticing aspects of the culture in Sicily
– the food and drink; with a tasty snack and glass of wine to get you in the mood for further
exploration.

Next, we’ll start our journey along the Godfather Trail – a set
of locations made famous by the iconic Godfather films in and
around Taormina. Taking in all of the main sights, we’ll stop at
the beautiful hilltop town of Savoca (well known as the spot
when Michael Corleone asks Apollonia’s father for her hand in
Bar Vitelli
marriage) and sample a typical lemon sorbet the Bar Vitelli.
Other Godfather ‘hits’ will be Forza D’Agro, where Corleone
is hidden in a donkey in the movie, and, finally, the Sicilian
house that has become an icon thanks to its appearance in
the Godfather III.
After a drive along Isola Bella, which is considered to be
among the most stunning parts of this pretty island, we’ll stop to take in the views of Castelmola and
Mount Etna. Lunch will be at a typical trattoria in Taormina – which is known for serving some of
the best fish and seafood anywhere in the Mediterranean. Here you’ll also have free time to explore
at your leisure – stopping to shop in the designer boutiques and visiting the well-loved Teatru Greco
(Greek Theatre).
Finally, after a jam-packed day, you’ll have the option to visit the Gambino winery at the foothills
of Etna – for a glass of something traditional that will sweeten your trip home!
Our ferry journey back to Malta will give us the time to recap on the many sights of the day, with
plenty of opportunities to discuss the history and highlights of Bella Sicilia.
