Library to Migrates to a PIN Verification System
Protecting your security and privacy is of utmost importance to WPL. For this
reason, patrons will soon be required to use a PIN for computer login and printing. The use of a PIN is already required for changing account information,
eLending, renewals and reserves. Soon you will enter your PIN at check out. A
secret PIN insures lost cards are not used by anyone other than the card owner.
Beginning September 24, the new PIN system will go into effect for computer
and printing transactions. This includes teens wishing to use computers in the
Teen Area, parents using the adult computers in the Youth Department and
those using library computers in the Training Center and The Hive. When the
library converted to its new circulation and catalog system last February, existing
library card holders were automatically assigned their last name as their PIN.
Patrons receiving cards after February 2016, were assigned a pre-generated PIN
at registration. We strongly recommended that patrons change their PIN for security purposes. While initially this two-tiered verification may seem a little cumbersome, long-term it means a faster, more secure, reliable and convenient way
to access resources at the Waterloo Public Library.
So why the change? To be responsive to our patron’s needs. This new system
will include MobilePrint Service, a tool that allows patrons to print remotely or
within the library from smartphones, tablets and computers. This new system will
also offer patrons the option of depositing money directly on their library card to
be used to retrieve future print jobs.
While we install these improvements, library computers will be unavailable for
use September 21 and 22. Also, the library will be closed on Friday, September
23 for a staff in-service.

How to Change your PIN
1. Visit the library’s website:
waterloopubliclibrary.org
2. Click catalog
3. Click log in (middle top of screen)
4. Type in your library card number and your
PIN (At library card sign-up, you may have
already chosen a PIN. If not, your PIN is 1234
or your last name if you were a library cardholder prior to Feb. 2016. If these do not
work, please call us with your library card
number and we will be able to help you
create a new PIN. 319-291-4476.)
5. Click log in
6. Click my account (middle top of screen)
7. Click change PIN (you may have to scroll
down to see this)
8. Type in your current PIN
9. Type in your new PIN and type it in again
to confirm new PIN
10. Click update
11. Click log out (middle top of screen)
