Introducing Andy Ebon
Educational Speaker at Expo 32 in Chicago!
The International Formalwear Association is proud to continually grow the educational aspect of the
Expo and this year has secured another great speaker! Wedding MBA speaker Andy Ebon will
present an educational seminar on BOTH Thursday and Friday morning at the show! Andy is a
marketing and motivational speaker, writer/author, and consultant.
His area of expertise pertains to the fact that 25 years ago, the choices for marketing to the bride and
groom were limited: Print ads, bridal shows, and referrals.
Now, wedding couples have instant access to information at
anytime, from anywhere. Unfortunately, the ever-increasing
volume of communication is overwhelming their ability to
filter and process information to make buying decisions.
Andy Ebon operates EBS Virtual Communications, based in
Las Vegas, now beginning its second decade. For the past 10
years, EBS has provided internet and other electronic
marketing solutions for small and medium size companies concentrated in just a few areas:
Association, Hospitality, Entertainment, Weddings and General Business.
Andy created The Wedding Marketing Blog and is launching WeddingMarketingRadio.com for
podcasts. Andy is the author of Marketing and Selling to the 21st Century Bride.
You do not want to miss either of his presentations both scheduled for 8:30 Thursday and Friday
morning!!!! Find out more of what to expect from these information packed seminars by following

How was YOUR Prom 2013????
Has your season ended yet???? Are you projecting your prom numbers up or down from last
year???? Did you rent more nonblack??? Bows or long??? Got a few early responses and will
share the rest next issue.
“Have 7 days left and the end is our biggest week
Up across the board for prom by about 15 % wedding down for early summer
Up a little for fall so far black tie events have really dropped off the board
Down to almost nothing
WHAT WAS Hot same as everyone BOW TIES didn't have enough
White coats black pants still hot 3 years in a row
PROM IS STILL STRONG HERE IN DETROIT
Can't wait till next years prom!”
Dan Wesner
Wesner Tuxedo
“It was a strange Prom for me in Phoenix this year. Prom's started in March and ended 5-5-2013.
Usually they start in April out here and end at the end of May. Summer weddings don't look so great
and I confirmed both of those things with my competitor. I hope Prom is good for everybody else and
weddings. I still did ok. Angelo Sbrocca from Rose Tuxedo in Phoenix, AZ
Anthony's House Formals Cranston RI “Prom Season is not quite done, 2 more weeks. Most
popular style has to be the Griffin Alexander Midnight blue tux! and Bow-Ties Bow-Ties Bow-Ties
lol. Overall Great Prom Season and Wedding Season looks better.”
Sam Carlson Blacktie Tuxedos Chicago Area 3 more weeks. I'll let you know.
Wade Eggers DuBois FW Green Bay WI:
We had average prom numbers here in Northeast Wisconsin. Across the farmland we saw both
ends of the spectrum in play. At the top end, the Allure was a big hit in all colors and we did
wonderful there; and at the bottom end, our least expensive tux was also flying out the door. We
saw double the orders for the 1-button notch compared to prior years. My guess is that priceconscious Prom-Moms had a bigger say this year. There was a lot of fun stuff renting too, like
suspenders and mix-n-match styles. From a marketing perspective, we noticed that "student list"
companies are providing weak to marginal lists, so direct mail isn't as effective as it could or should
be; and if your not blasting them on Facebook or Dynome the day before they make up their mind,
you're missing it. MW has been buying their way into the schools, so that has changed a paradigm
there and we'll be pushing back next year. All in all, we set records for the two big weeks but the
ends were softer. Like everyone, we'd love to double our prom sales, but in this market, we'll have to
be content with "average." Hope everyone is thriving and looking forward to a big summer.
Sal Saputo J&L FW Marrero LA
Prom was ok a little bit off because some big schools eliminated the junior prom, and only had one .
I noticed some students bought jackets on line and came to me for the rest of the tux. Next year I'll be
ready for this. But I don't know if I'll ever be prepared for some of the mothers that came with their
helpless sons. I appreciate their interest but let the young man pick his own tux ,how will they
manage going away to college in the fall?
Sophia at A Better Deal Tuxedos It has been insane! We have had 75 orders for prom this
weekend, not to mention the past weekends with at least 30 orders per weekend, and we still have
kids parading through the doors last minute! We stop any kind of discount 2 weeks before.
We have endless colors of vests, bowties, windsor ties, suspenders and even cummerbunds available!
We have a huge selection of styles in tuxedos ranging from our brand new slimfit peaks and notches
to white dinner jackets to greys! We also have the old school vintage tuxedos for those who need a
bit more spice in their night!
We carry the Maxwell, which is the tuxedo used in the most recent James Bond movie, which a few
kids took a liking to this year.
Diane Peters Ducky’s Formalwear Galesburg IL Overall GOOD… some up some down. But very
appreciative of all of their interest in still wearing formalwear. More bow ties and a WIDE range of
colors…Larr Brio’s metallic vest line was a hit with the girls…..But had an unusually high number
of ruined fronts of pants and vests from “wild dancing” those sequin dresses did not do well on the
Allure pants!
Pass along a good will gesture we do to pay back the future brides and grooms…We press their
graduation gowns for free….they stop by during business hours and most times we can do it while
they wait…the mom’s love it and the kids appreciate not having to worry about how it will get done!
They also wander around the store while we do it so even if not a customer before always hope they
will be back!
Joe Rossini Rossini’s Formalwear Modesto CA Thankfully VERY spread out this year a much great
use of resources and man power not all bunched into a few weeks. Numbers should turn out ok but
the recovering economy could still be seen in the number of under $100 rentals we did. Some did
not want coats but kept the individual prices up high enough to discourage that… And with watching
their spending, saw a growing trend of before/after home parties planned by the parents….they cook
for them etc..
