Carving Knives
Cape Forge Carving Knives
Each knife is hand-forged using fire and anvil, hardened to approximately Rockwell 62. Knives are triple tempered to give
added flexibility and to assure a long-lasting edge. Blades shown actual size.
A different slant on the basic detail knife. Allows for more
control in some areas.

cuts, also handy when you don’t want the tip to bite in, such

Preferred Edge Knives
Using only the finest high-carbon, low-alloy steel gives the tools hardness
and durability. The Rockwell hardness of each knife is C57.2. All done by
hand, each wood carving knife is flame cut to the specified size and drawn
to an edge by blacksmithing. A fine edge is obtained by grinding, filing and
polishing. The knife is then heated and hardened in an oil bath and heated
again in an electric oven, then naturally cooled, polished and brought to a
razor edge. Finally it’s buffed before the wood handle is attached.

1-3/4” Drop Point Knife
Favored by many carvers because it require a lot less wrist reaction
then the ordinary straight blade.

2” x 3/8” Slow Curve Double Edge Knife
With a very gradual curve toward the end of the knife, it can
be used for shallow digging or to plane a surface. Also used to
make cuts up against a stop cut. When using both sides of the
knife, you don’t have to turn the carving around, just change
the direction of cutting.

2” x 3/8” High Curve Double Edge Knife
Bent up to 90 degree the wide curve makes the knife excellent
for cleaning out the knife marks made by the hook knife in a
concave area. This knife acts as a wide scorp. Being sharp right
to the tip you can cut up against the stop cuts with this knife.
This is an excellent knife for deep relief carvings, especially relieving the background.

Denny has been making knives full time since
1997. All of his knives and gouges are made of
the finest O1 tool steel. He uses wood handles
made of oak because he prefers the feel of the
wood. All of his regular knife blades are glued
and riveted in three places for extra holding
power. His smallest detail knives are mounted
in the handle with epoxy. The back edge of the
knife blade has been rounded to allow for ease
