It is my pleasure to welcome our community and visitors to the 2009 Panther Football season. I would like to thank all of you for the support of our program and our young men. Our coaches and our teams are looking forward to a great season and hope you will be a part of it each and every night. Our Panther players have finished a successful summer of seven a.m. workouts in the weight room, playing in 7 on 7 competitions and going through a very challenging I.S.U. Team Camp. We return 6 players with starting experience on offense and 6 with starting experience on defense. Along with this we have a number of players that have varsity playing experience from last year’s 10-2 season. I would like to thank all of those who help to make our off-season program successful for our young men. We had another very successful Panther 7 on 7 passing tournament and lineman challenge. The success of this day was due to the hard work of our parents and volunteers. Our 12th Man Golf outing was a success as always. I would like to thank all of the volunteers and donors that make it possible. In Closing, thank you to the Washington community, parents, members of the 12th Man and all the volunteers that give so much to our players and football program. You make Washington a great place for our players to compete and grow up. You all help them to learn, grow and develop as young men, on the field, and in the classroom and community. Please join us this year in making this another great Panther Football Season. Sincerely, Joe & Kris Bullard Sophmore Parent Rep. Steve & Sue Grimes Freshman Parent Rep. The 2009 football team looks to be one of the best we have had. This season should prove to be fun and exciting. Let’s show our team our support and recognize their hard work as they make a run for the state title. In 1983 the Washington Panther 12th Man was organized by Charlie Fuller and a small group of very dedicated individuals. Over the years, the 12th Man has invested thousands of dollars in our football program and players, as well as other sports and organizations here at Washington Community High School. I would like to thank all of the volunteers and members who have so generously supported our programs over the years. Their contributions of time and money have made it possible for our student athletes to have the best equipment and facilities, enabling them to have a positive and memorable experience. This summer marked the 21st annual 12th Man Golf Outing. Once again, the day was a huge success thanks to the volunteers who helped organize and run the event, as well as the golfers who make this event one of the best golf outings in the area. During the last few years alone, proceeds from the golf outing have been used to develop a $30,000 weight room that is available to all students who attend WCHS, a reconditioned playing surface on the football field, an underground watering system for the football field, coaches headsets, scouting software, and an assortment of quality football equipment to ensure the safety and competitiveness of our players. Along with our annual 12th Man Golf Outing, the 12th Man organizes the Washington Panther 7-on-7 Tournament. This year, twenty-nine teams competed in the tournament and the Lineman’s Challenge. Again, thank you to the many volunteers who made this a successful day for all who attended. Here’s to a successful 2009 football season. GO PANTHERS!!!! Specifically Washington Panther football. This program is only successful because of the many dedicated supporters over the years. Gary Moehle was one of these supporters of the 12th Man from the beginning by sponsoring pre-game team meals. He continued to contribute to this organization over the next three decades. A Washington Community High School graduate himself, Gary played for the Panthers as an offensive lineman from 1962—1965. His jersey number was 65. The WCHS Booster Club was another organization that Gary served, and was the director from 1987—89, which was several years before his children even attended the high school. He really felt strongly about supporting the community, the high school, and the athletic program there. Gary and some of his buddies could always be seen at home games in the “Panther Pit,” which was the upper section of the visitor’s bleachers near the scoreboard. Up there, they would cheer loudly for the Panthers, smoke cigars, and often videotape games. Gary’s sons, Matt and Jon, also enjoyed playing Washington Panther football, and all of Gary’s children look forward to his grandchildren attending WCHS and being apart of the proud tradition of Panther athletics. 65 23 WFB_p01_024:WFB_p01_024 8/20/09 10:47 AM Page 24 www.UFTRING.com 444-3151 24 WFB_Cover:WFB_Cover 8/20/09 9:15 AM Page 3 Attention Panther Football Alumni! Washington Community High School football dates back to 1923 and is a proud and rich tradition. 2009 marks the beginning of an alumni association geared towards linking the past with the present and forming a network of former players. We will support Panther Football. We will honor our great teams and players of the past and support our team today. We want you to be a part of this effort. If you are a former football Panther, no matter if in 1958 or 2008, please log on to pantherfootballalumni.com or contact Kenny Hopp, Brad Fuller, or Rich Burk to find out what events we have planned and become part of the proud tradition of Panther Football Alumni.
