CASE STUDY Access Control: PHL7112 Access Control Solutions Mobile ticketing Visitor registration ABOUT APENHEUL introduction The concept of Apenheul (Ape Hill) was developed in the ’60 when a passionate monkey expert decided to open a park where monkeys run free. In 1971 the park was officially opened. The visitors park is divided in 9 areas. In most of the areas the monkeys run free. For decades, Apenheul has been researching the behavior of monkeys. Apart from visitors, Apenheul also welcomes primatologists. More and more event parks introduce E-ticketing. Apenheul started working with this system last year (2007). The barcodes on E-tickets contain information which, when scanned, is checked and stored in the central database. Apenheul can herewith monitor the profile of its visitors. The involvement of Logic Lines and the experience Apenheul already has with Opticon products, made Apenheul chose for this new Opticon hardware. ABOUT PARTNER Logic Lines is a software supplier regarding automatic identification. This includes software programs for barcode scanners and printers, but also for processing into databases and other systems. Together with hardware suppliers Logic Lines is able to offer complete solutions. FEATURED PRODUCT: PHL7112 • No waiting time at cash register • Fast identification at check-in • Wireless communication with host system • Insight in visitor profile CASE STUDY Access Control: PHL7112 SOLUTION The PHL7112 is a rugged terminal, ideal for outdoor situations. The pistol grip enables extra comfort while using the device. After scanning the barcode on the E-ticket, the WiFi-network immediately sends the data to the host system. The software of Logic Lines gives the staff a clear overview of the number of visitors and the visitor frequency. Last year (2007), Apenheul CHALLENGE An E-ticketing system can help organizations register and manage visitors in a fast way. One of the requirements of the new system was to be able to analyze the visitor frequency in realtime. Therefore, the E-tickets are supplied with a barcode, so that the ticket can be identified by a barcode scanner. As soon as the scanner recognizes the barcode, the visitors can access the park. Apenheul has not worked with barcode scanners at the entrance before. During the research process several scanners from different suppliers have been tested. Apenheul chose for the PHL7112 of Opticon. “E-ticketing helps organizations register and manage visitors in a fast way” PHL2700 started working with E-tickets. Visitors can now order and pay the tickets online and print them. Visitors with an E-ticket do not have to wait at the cash register and check-in anymore. They can directly walk to the entrance of the park. The number of E-tickets increases monthly. At the moment 27,5% of the tickets is bought online. Apart from the PHL7112, Apeheul also uses the PHL2700. This programmable terminal is suitable for different wireless applications. Apenheul uses the PHL2700 for inventory activities in the souvenir shop. The terminal is equippe with 8 MB memory, enough for intensive use. The large display makes it easy to electronically generate and check order lists. The scaners are batch collection devices. The identified information of multiple scanners can be uploaded to a central database. The solid housing of the PHL2700 is rugged enough to resist drops up to 1.5 meter. This makes the terminal suitable for use in lightindustrial situations Copyright Opticon. All rights reserved. This information is subject to change without prior notice.
