The feedback from parents regarding the Principal's Awards has also been fantastic to hear. Please don't forget to send in your 'Two Stars and a Wish' sheet to your child's classroom teacher. If you haven't had a chance to complete this yet, please take some time over the holidays and it can be returned at the start of next term. We would like to wish everyone a safe and relaxing holiday break and look forward to having the children return to school on Wednesday 20 July 2016. CSO NEEDS BASED FUNDING: The school is very excited to announce that we have received additional funding from the government through the Catholic Schools Office to further enhance our student learning and school improvement focus. The proposal that was submitted by the school and has progressed through Parish approval and we look forward to some exciting projects beginning at the start of next term. The two main staffing changes will involve the employment of a K-3 Instructional Leader (Reading) and PBS School Leader. PBS stands for Positive Behaviour Support and is a school wide initiative that we have explored to support the initiatives identified in the school DOLSIS and Insight SRC survey results. We look forward to the addition of these two important roles within the school. These appointments will have a flow on effect to two classrooms for Terms Three and Four this year. Advertisements will be coordinated during the holidays and we will be making the announcements as soon as possible. We thank you for your support in making our school an even better learning environment for your child/ren. PARENT SURVEY: A huge thank you to the parents that have taken the time to complete the short parent survey when attending the Parent/Teacher/Student interviews in the Hall. We are in the process of collating all of the information and will share the results with you early next term. BUS STOP SAFETY: A reminder to all parents to please have 'Stranger Danger' discussions with your children, especially if they spend time at a bus stop before or after school. Yesterday, we were made aware of a potential issue with an adult approaching a child and trying to make conversation with them and offering them a ride in their car. Please ensure that your child/ren know what to do if this type of event happens to them. The safety of all of our children is always paramount. KINDERGARTEN PYJAMA PARTY: It was so much fun to engage with the Kindergarten students for their special 'Pyjama Party' day. Staff looked fantastic and I know the children were impressed with the Kindergarten staff and the leopard print group. Photos have been published on the front page of the newsletter this week. NEW STUDENTS: We welcome Jasmine Anastas (KC) James Ayres (5D) and their families to our school. ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S REPORT RICK GALVIN GOD MOMENTS: Summer Blackney - The Office Ladies would like to thank Summer Blackney from Year 4 for showing great care and compassion towards a Kinder student who was injured in the playground this week. Summer kindly took the kinder student up to the Office and waited and comforted her while she was receiving first aid. Thank you Summer for “Making Jesus Real” in our school community! NEXT FAIR MEETING: Just a reminder that our next Fair Meeting will be held at the Blue Water Restaurant & Bar on Wednesday 27 July at 5:30pm (not 20 July, as stated in last week’s Newsletter). Don’t forget that there will be some nibbles provided on the night. The Fair Committee can’t wait to hear some of the new and innovative ideas from our current and new families, so that we can try to make our major fundraiser for the year even better than last year!! Looking forward to seeing you there! PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS: It was great to get a chance to chat to so many parents, as they arrived for their Parent/Teacher interviews this week. The interviews provide a wonderful opportunity for parents/carers to gain insight into their child’s learning and classroom experience. Thank you to all the staff, for their time and energy they have spent in organising and hosting the interviews this week. A special thanks to the MasterChef’s (Bec and Jodie in the Canteen), for cooking such delicious soups and casseroles for the staff each night! ENJOY THE BREAK: Well, I can’t believe we are already at the end of Term 2! Whilst visiting the classrooms and out on the playground this week, I have noticed a lot of children looking a bit tired and ready for a well earned two week break. I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a relaxing and safe holiday. I look forward to welcoming everyone back next term and can’t wait to be a part of the exciting learning opportunities and events that will be occurring at St Agnes’ during Term 3. LEADERS OF CURRICULUM/DIGITAL PEDAGOGIES CHRISTY ISMAY & CYNTHIA NOSWORTHY LUNCH TIME ENRICHMENT GROUPS: There have been many lunchtime enrichment opportunities happening at St Agnes' over Term 2. Our students are so lucky to have the opportunity to engage in these lunchtime groups and have enjoyed sharing their learning and ideas with like minded students, during these group times. Mr Brazel has been running a Mathematics Club for Year 2, 3 and 4. This is a chance for those students, who particularly love the deep Maths learning that is happening in their classrooms regardless of capability, to extend and challenge themselves. A huge thank you to Mr Brazel, for beginning this initiative and sharing his passion for Mathematics with these lucky students. Mrs Nosworthy and Mrs Ismay have also been running lunchtime Poetry Club, where students were able to compose and submit a piece of poetry for the Dorethea MacKellar Poetry competition. This national competition has been a wonderful opportunity for some of our students from Years 2 - 6 to engage in some deeper poetry learning. These children have shown great development from the beginning of the term to now and should be very proud of their submissions. Well done! CREATIVE ARTS SPECTACULAR: Lock it in! Preparations for our annual Creative Arts Spectacular are well under way. This great night will take place on Thursday, 8 September. Those students that have been rehearsing in one of our 5 dance groups, one of our two choirs or as part of the school band, will be performing at this amazing evening. The night involves those students in Years 1 - 6 who have been giving up their lunchtimes and before school play to rehearse. Every year, this night seems to get bigger and better and we encourage those younger students who are not involved in any of the groups yet, to come along and watch with their families. It is always a great sight to see these younger students watching their buddies or older friends performing and it gives them a goal to work towards in the Creative Arts. Those students who are involved will be given a note early next term with all costume and rehearsal day details. LEADER OF PEDAGOGY REPORT STACEY MULLIN The school holidays are a great opportunity to recharge and take time as a family to slow down from the busyness of the school term. There are many days, or parts of days when our kids get bored with movies, cleaning their rooms and even their Ipods and Ipads. This is a great time to reintroduce the family games, using dice, cards or other counting games to fill the time. We began the term with our Maths night that focused on playing games in maths to use and practice the concepts more. Any simple game using dice allows our younger students to read numbers and understand quantities. A game of monopoly is a budgeting game, encouraging students to count money and give change especially if they are the banker. You may take the chance to reopen the package from MKR night and revisit a game from your child’s grade to encourage the continued learning of your child and take your time out as a family. SPORTS NEWS - CLAIRE MICHELL COACHED SPORT FINISHED: KI, Year 3 and 4 have finished their coached sport sessions for the term in Gymnastics, Tennis, Cricket and Hockey. Thank you to Activated Gymnastics, Port Macquarie Tennis Club and Greg Alchin, Martin Garoni and Cricket NSW and Phil Jackwitz and Hockey NSW for running these sessions. These sporting opportunities are funded through the Government program known as Sporting Schools. We are fortunate to be supplied with enough funding each semester to cover the expenses of these coached sessions so that our students do not have to pay anything. Having expert tuition from community professionals enables students to experience new or familiar sports in highly interactive and engaging ways. YEAR 2 COACHING: Thank you to St Joseph’s Regional College students, the Year 2 teachers, John Rossington and Craig Bushe for organising coaching sessions of Fundamental Movement Skills to our Year 2 students. They loved the program and their certificates of participation! ZONE ATHLETICS RESULTS - FROM TRACKSIDE TEAM MANAGER AND COMMENTATOR MR PURKIS: It was a pleasure taking over 50 children to St Joseph’s Regional College for the Zone Athletics Carnival. Our track and field tried their best and achieved some great results, prevailing against some strong competition amongst the schools present. Children wished each other well and were cheering on their friends when not competing. Special mentions to Liam Cameron and Eliza Ruhl as 11yr Champions, Zayn Galea as Runner-up, and to the Junior Relay and Senior relay teams who finished off our day with smooth transitions and blistering speed. The School team walked away with a strong 2nd place overall. A big congratulations to all who participated. A thank you to Mrs Mercer for her long jump recording skills, Kate Morris for fantastic assistance with track marshalling and Mrs Halloran for helping to settle nerves and making sure all competitors got to their events on time. Students who have made it to the Diocesan Athletic Trials in Coffs Harbour on the 19 August are reminded to ensure they bring their necessary notes and payments to the Office by Friday 22 July. CPS RUGBY: Congratulations to Ben Howarth and Sam Fox who competed in Forbes on Monday.
