April/May 2012 CARIBBEAN CULTURAL & CARNIVAL ORGANIZATION Volume 1, Issue 3 CCCO Connection 2012 Miss Carival & Jr. Miss Carival Pageant The CCCO is looking for young ladies of Caribbean Heritage (either by birth or descent) to participate in our annual Miss Carival Pageant which will be held on July 14, 2012. Contestants between the ages 9-12 for Jr. Miss Carival, and 16-21 for Miss Carival may complete an application to enter. Mark Your Calendars Apr 20th – J.A.M. Boat Ride, Diamond Belle June 23rd – Caribbean Family Picnic, Belle Isle The Miss Carival Detroit is an esteemed pageant which encourages pride in our culture as well as poise, and self-confidence. The winners will be expected to represent CCCO and participate at special events such as the Carnival, Fashion Shows, Receptions and Pageants. Ah Yuh So Nice—Carnival Fundraiser Reggae Gurlz Entertainment in association with G.A.P. will be hosting a Fundraiser Dance on Saturday, May 5th. Admission is only $5 with all proceeds going towards the 2012 Detroit Caribbean Festival & Parade. Music will be provided by Vybz Machine, from Pittsburgh, and Detroit’s top dancehall-reggae sound, Roots Rock. Caribbean food and beverages will be available. Detroiters trickled in & out of the WIAA throughout the day for the Caribbean Extravaganza. Informative presentations were given for each Caribbean country. The younger attendees enjoyed soccer demonstrations and a short trivia competition where they were able to win prizes. The Taste fest offer wonder dishes liked Jamaican beef patties & jerk chicken. The evening Unity Dance had everyone on the dance floor or moving to the heavy beats of soca, reggae, and dancehall spun by WD and Infinity Sound. The party lasted well into the wee hours of the night. Look out for many more CCCO events to come through out the year.
