Who is the Friends of Canadian Simmental Foundation
The Friends of Canadian Simmental Foundation (FCSF) is a not-for-profit registered foundation
dedicated to scholarship and educational support of youth in the business of agriculture and
Simmental cattle. The Foundation is governed by a board of directors who are heavily involved
in the Simmental industry and who have a vested interest in educating youth, developing
leadership, and encouraging young people to be a part of the agriculture industry.
The Friends of Canadian Simmental Foundation
belongs to all of those that had the vision to believe
in bringing the Simmental breed to Canada, those
that supported and have developed it over the past
47 years, and those that see the value it brings to
the generations of the future.
Focus of the Friends of Canadian Simmental Foundation
Scholarships - The FCSF administers scholarships for youth who are involved in Canadian
agriculture. Assisting in the development of youth with a focus on advancing their understanding
of agriculture is a very important component of the FCSF.
Youth Development - The FCSF supports youth programs such as the Young
Canadian Simmental Association (YCSA). The YCSA is one of the most
progressive and dynamic agricultural youth organizations in Canada. It is open
to anyone 25 years and under who then have the opportunity to participate in
various activities across Canada. YCSA members learn important skills
including public speaking, marketing and communications which develop
strong and dynamic leaders for not only our industry, but society as a whole.
Research and Development - The FCSF is actively
engaged in supporting research to benefit the agriculture industry in Canada. This work is focused on
improving the Canadian beef industry by enhancing
production efficiency, product quality and profitability.

What the Friends of Canadian Simmental Foundation is doing
FSCF Scholarships
The Friends of Canadian Simmental Foundation is honored to administer 3 exciting post-secondary
scholarships. The Friends of Canadian Simmental Foundation recognizes the importance of
supporting youth in agriculture and their goals of advanced education. The scholarship program is one
of the ways that the Foundation intends to support youth and the future of the livestock industry. In
2015 the FSCF is excited to award $9,000 in scholarships.
The current 2014 winners are listed on page 22 or go online to www.simmentalfoundation.com to
find past winners and the current application form that can be used for all three of the scholarships for
the 2015-16 academic year.
Youth Development
The FCSF supports youth programs such as the Young Canadian Simmental
Association (YCSA). The YCSA is one of the most progressive and dynamic
agricultural youth organizations in Canada. It is open to anyone 25 years and under
who then have the opportunity to participate in various activities across Canada.
For 2015 the FCSF will be sending 15% of the Fundraiser auction directly to the YCS
program to assist in running of their 2015-16 activities. Here are just some of the great things we
hear back from past YCSA members about this great program
Through the
YCSA program we
sincerely
appreciate the
lifelong friendships
we have developed.
The opportunities and personal growth we experienced as a
result of the YCSA experience is unquantifiable and has been a benefit
we still have to this very day.
Lynsey Milliner 1994-2012 & Ashleigh Milliner-Cowan 1993-2004
During my time in the YCS program I learned how to speak in
public, meet new people, present myself professionally, work
hard towards a goal, be a modest winner and a respectful loser.
All which came in handy when I was hired on at the age of 23 as
a manager in a retirement home after attending the
University of Guelph. I owe my success to the wonderful YCSA
program and the generosity of its members, leaders and
scholarships. - Chelsea O'Connor, YCSA Alumni 1997 to 2012
Looking back, the YCSA was a huge part of
my life. Whether it was showing cattle, learning how to work with others, building
confidence or making lifelong friends, this
program has helped me and so many others
build character traits that are integral to success. Working alongside with the CSA board,
the YCSA is a great contributor to shaping our
future agricultural leaders. - Scott Matthews
YCSA as a youth organization, helps young people build a strong
foundation for their future, such as thinking on your feet, attention to
details and networking. The YCSA program helped bring our family
together as we traveled to events across the country. As past active
members in the YCSA, we learned
skills and confidence that helped us
participate in exchange programs,
excel in 4-H and our education, which
has served us both well and continue
to help achieve our careers.
Trish Wooddisse-Kelly &
Josh Wooddisse
As a shy kid, my Grandparents enrolled me in YCS when I was
about 10 years old, in hopes of bringing me out of my shell and
trying to get me more interested in the cattle industry. I sat on the
OYCS and National YCS Boards for many years, traveled across
the country and overseas and met many International Young
Simmentalers too! The many friendships and
fun times, still bring a smile to my face. On
top of that, the technical, leadership, and
communication skills I’ve learnt from the
program have led me to the many successes
I’ve had so far in my career.” –
Katie Wood, Ont YCSA Alumni 1993-2010

Donation Bred Heifer
Elm Tree Ms Damon 12B
The Donation Heifer will be auctioned off at the start of the sale by Dutch Auction at $20 per ticket
To pre order your tickets if you can not attend the sale please contact any of the
FCSF board of directors or sale staff to have tickets purchased on your behalf.
ELM TREE MS DAMON 12B has been
selected from the strongest replacement
heifer pen we have produced to date. With
her moderate frame, super deep quarter
and attractive lines, she is built right for
today’s industry. She is the first calf out of
our Crossroad Radium female who was
named Champion Female at the NAILE
Fullblood show in 2012. Her sire, DFM
Ridge’s Damon has been our go-to heifer
bull for many years, siring calves with
consistently low birth weights and the
maternal strength to develop into top
producing females.
Bred April 7 to Anchor D Imax for an
early calf.

Elm Tree Farms is a fifth generation family farm, owned and
operated by Glenn and Pamela Wotten with daughters Mariah
and Sophie. Located in southern Ontario, their cattle operation
started out as a commercial cow/calf herd of over 100 cows. The purchase of their first Fleckvieh Simmental bull from D.
Maronda Simmentals in 1993 formed a strong Simmental influence in the cowherd, eventually becoming the heart of the
program.
Previous Bred Heifer Donators
Each year the Friends of Canadian Simmental Foundation designates a
“Friend of the Foundation.” This individual / family has generously donated a bred heifer to
the Foundation Auction. Their commitment to the Foundation through this gesture is

Erixon High Roller 143B is one of the most complete red bulls to sell in the spring of
2015 to Hannah Simmental & Canadian Sires. The Erixon Dealer 63Z sire group
was one of the most consistent & sought after sire groups to sell this spring and
High Roller was well in the lead of the feature bull in the group. Look to High Roller
to add a phenotypic presence of style and power in a fault free package.

MRL Capone 130B would undoubtedly be the most talked about Red

passes down, he was a very popular commodity.
Her sire, Ebony’s Intuition, needs no introduction, as he was the Supreme

Pick of the Litter Registered Border Collie Pup
“Tess” (Dale Montgomery) is our Zip x Kip female that comes from excellent
working bloodlines. Her mom was the 2012 Calgary Stampede winner. Tess is a
hard working dog who is very responsive and keen, yet still a member of the
family.
“Sam”, the sire of the upcoming litter has a proven track record, (4th at National
Cattle Dog finals in Steamboat Springs Co, 1st at Nebraska State Fair, 2nd at
South Dakota State Fair, and a Finalist at Calgary Stampede), as well as being
Campbell Forsyth’s “Go to cattle dog”. He is a powerful dog that will take both
ends comfortably, works well in big areas as well as corrals.
This mating is proven to work. This will be the third planned mating this
way and we just love the puppies’ early interest, good personalities and willingness
to work.
Puppies expected to arrive in April 2016 and be available in June 2016.
