Read more>> HARMAN India Highlights Tech Day Nation's Longest BRTS Project powered by HARMAN Telematics India’s longest BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit System) corridor project in Bhopal is being powered by HARMAN Telematics solutions. HARMAN Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) comprises of a number of technologies, including processing of information, communications, control and electronics. The ITS solution that is currently being implemented by HARMAN will facilitate smooth traffic flows, reduce accidents and alert emergency services. In addition, Live-Tracking of BRTS buses will help identify their current location and speed. The scalable solution supports both the onboard and off-board Telematics solution, promoting better passenger comfort and optimum resource utilization for the operator. This project was assigned to the nodal agency, Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) and financed by the Central Government under the flagship JnNURM (Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission). Nicer Globe HARMAN Telematics is now associated with the Nicer Globe project, an Indian Chemical Council (ICC) initiative, as an authorized hardware provider to the chemical industry. This project, with the help of leading chemical companies BASF, Bayer and others, entails the development of a dedicated platform for Transport Distribution Safety and Emergency Response. It includes a DangerousGoods (DG)/Hazardous- Materials (Hazmat) Cargo vehicle tracking system dedicated for the chemical industry. Efforts are also under way to set-up a 24X7 Emergency aid response system that would ensure a Pan-India support. HARMAN powers Tamil Nadu Ambulance project HARMAN bagged the prestigious GVK EMRI-108 Ambulance project in Tamil Nadu powering over 700 GPS Automatic Vehicle Locating Systems (AVLS) units. Frequently, emergencies result in fatalities due to the lack of capacity to locate an ambulance in close proximity. The AVLS units by HARMAN will help determine the exact location of available ambulances on the map and also enable the field staff to submit a PATIENT CARE REPORT (PCR) form to the nearby medical officers where the patient will be admitted for emergency medical care. The device also has biometric capabilities to provide the attendant’s location details via finger prints, aiding further investigations. The application software also provides real-time access to the status and availability of equipment and supplies in the ambulance. HARMAN to assist effective policing during night patrol HARMAN will soon assist city patrolling units in identifying suspected criminals with previous police records on the spot by verifying their police records. Police patrol vehicles will be equipped with HARMAN display units and Finger Print Units which will be connected to the Police Network. Any suspect apprehended can be immediately cross verified with the existing police data base and captured on the installed display unit. This on-the-spot identification empowers the police to act immediately. Spotlight HARMAN India Manufacturing Plant I want to take this opportunity give you an overview of HARMAN’s manufacturing operations in India. We decided to establish our manufacturing footprint in India to provide customers a complete Infotainment solution. About a year ago, we kick-started the project in the prime location, Chakan in Pune, one of the first hubs for automotive in India. This manufacturing plant is hence located close to the Auto OEMs and is a state-of-the-art plant embracing HARMAN global standards. The production environment will Prathab Deivanayagham, feature a Class 100k Clean Room with automated temperature and humidity controls and will host best-in-class Electrostatic Discharge Director, India (ESD) systems complying with ANSI/ESD S20.20. Access is Manufacturing controlled through automated control gates. The plant has a scalable capacity to the tune of 700K vehicle sets p.a. in a facility spanning 60,000 square feet (6,000 sq. m). All manufacturing processes will be automated and supported by computer control systems and an integrated manufacturing and test solution – SMT, Final Assembly, Test & Pack. The presence of the plant, engineering center and acoustics lab - all in one location - aids the development process. In the coming fiscal year, we will be focused on localization and launching pan -India service support, for hassle free after sales support. In short, we are looking to offer an end-to-end Infotainment solution that is poised to exceed your requirements. We look forward to working with you in 2014 and beyond. HARMAN India Acoustics Lab In this section, we feature our state-of-the-art Acoustic Systems Engineering Centre, Pune, that helps us cater to local acoustical and system design demands of the automotive market in India. The lab features complex computer simulation technology, using virtual acoustics tools specially developed by HARMAN. The virtual development environment allows acoustics properties of the vehicle interiors to be displayed in 3D, with music also made visible on screen. The Design and Development of Automotive OEM Entertainment Systems are performed in the System Development Lab. The work on a tailor made sound system begins long before a new car physically exists, even in a prototype form. Our acoustics engineers in the lab begin with the development as soon as the first design studies of a new car have been defined. The fine tuning can then take up to three years as the final car profile can change during the development. Since the lab’s commencement, we have completed projects for key automotive manufacturers including Fiat, Maruti and TATA and work on projects for TATA, Mahindra and Hyundai are underway to provide solutions for the best acoustics and tuning requirements.
