Quilting Classes
In two class sessions you can learn fusible machine appliqué and machine
quilting to make your own “Faith, Hope, Love” wall hanging. Once
you’ve mastered these skills it’s easy to make another as a gift for a friend!

♦ Charming Table Runner
Pick your favorite fabrics out of a charm pack and a few strips of
fabric to make this table runner. Piece the top, baste the runner, quilt
it simply, and apply binding all by machine to make it a quick and
easy project. Perfect for beginners who want to hone their quilting
skills. All skills demonstrated, some outside sewing may be required.

Harvest Moon
Harvest Moon has become a good friend at Harper's. Now is the time to approach log cabin block
assembly and many variations. This off center log cabin block will make
either Harvest Moon settings (traditional and on-point). Success tip:
complete the class before counting the number of fabric logs in the quilt!

Ragtime
Quilting Classes
This is a very fun quilt to make and is a perfect first quilting project. It’s a
no-stress, forgivingly simple quilt. Whether you choose flannels or quilting
cotton, you’ll be delighted with the results. This quilt works up quickly so
you can make one for every member of your family. They’ll demand it!

♦ Lightspeed
The 'speed of light' describes how quickly this non-traditional four patch
quilt assembles. Strip sets are made production style and attached to the
remaining patch to assemble into the quilt top. Seam matching does not
exist until the rows are sewn together. A fast and fun project to warm those
cool autumn evenings. Alternative block settings are included in the pattern. Scrappy or controlled palette, Lightspeed is fun and fast!!

cherished long after we stop wearing the shirts! Learn how to stabilize those
stretchy knits and make the most of the graphics that bring back memories.

X Quilt
The X Quilt is 'just' a traditional log cabin block made with graduated
colors and set on point. Repeat dramatic gray and black as in the sample or
choose your own family of colors. Partial blocks replace setting triangles to
give it an irregular octagon shape. Traditional square shape is an option.
This pattern makes a great throw size quilt. This quilt calls out to be
viewed and inspires any style of quilting artist.

Creative Quilting with Your Walking Foot - Make your tops into Quilts
Learn how to prepare a quilt sandwich & quilt with a walking foot. You will learn how to start and
stop your quilting lines, stitch straight lines and gentle curves. Plan quilting designs using these
basics shapes. Using these skills your next quilt will be free of tucks and puckers. You can say you
did it yourself! Kit provided. This is a pre-requisite for Free Motion Made Fun. As an added bonus,
bring a quilt top for suggestions on quilting designs.

Free Motion Made Fun
In two sessions you will learn and practice the skills needed for free motion. In
the first session learn how to mark a stencil design on a quilt top and follow the
line. You can choose from a variety of possible choices or bring in a stencil you
like! In the second session the emphasis is on developing muscle memory and
filling the open spaces with a memorized design. Loops, meander, stars, teardrops
and flames are among the possibilities. As an added bonus, bring a quilt top and
we'll plan a quilting design together!

Quilting Basics
Rotary Cutting - Beginning to Perfection
This is a one-on-one class or get two friends and create a class. Just
call and schedule an appointment with Mary. How do you choose
the best tool for the job and how do you use them? We offer tips
and tricks that will have you cutting straight strips quickly and efficiently. With a solution to every cutting challenge – whether you
are vertically challenged, find your ruler slips as you cut, or need
help finding the right line to measure, let Mary help you find the
answer.

Quilt Basics in a Day
Want to learn the basics of piecing? Short on time? Mary has a short course all worked out for
you! Make your own version of this cute wall hanging or table topper in just
one day. Learn about fabric selection and care, sewing a scant 1/4" seam,
strip piecing, 4-patch blocks, and how to put on a border that doesn‘t wave.
Join us for the day and we‘ll have lunch together, too!

Binding Basics
What is the difference between straight grain or bias binding, double fold
French binding and single fold binding? When do you use them? How do you
make them using the same quality fabrics as your quilt? How do you make

to finish your quilt beautifully!

My First Sewing Class
This class is designed to introduce the sewing machine to beginning youth (8-15yrs). Operation of
a sewing machine includes threading, bobbin winding and installation, identification of proper
settings, completing straight stitching and troubleshooting. Students bring their own machine or
borrow one of ours. This class is a pre-requisite to Youth Studio, unless
you have been to a Youth Studio in the last quarter or Summer Camp.

Homeschool Group
Calling all home schoolers! This class is offered for those students that have
the flexibility of the homeschool schedule, would like to gather with other
students to learn, practice basic sewing skills and work on projects. All ages
and skill levels are welcome, and the projects will be determined with the
instructor and geared toward the students’ skill level.

We appreciate your purchasing a class from Harper’s. It is our goal for you to have a fun
learning experience in our classes. You will receive a supply list at the time of registration
if available or it will be mailed to you. Supplies are not included in the registration fee
unless so stated. We suggest you wait until closer to the time of your class to purchase
your fabrics, in case of class cancellation. We check class registration approximately 1
week to 10 days prior to the class to determine if class minimum has been reached. You
will be notified if a class for which you have registered is cancelled.

♦ The Weekender
Jump into sewing with this weekend class. Start Saturday with Driver’s Ed to learn your
machine. Apply those sewing skills by making a pillowcase Saturday and pajama pants
Sunday. You will learn seams allowances, finishing edges, make a hem and an elastic waist
all in 2 days of sewing class.

Sewing Basics
Driver’s Ed for Sewing Machines
This class is a must when you don’t know how to start your sewing machine. Maybe you inherited
a sewing machine or dug one out of the closet. Bring your machine (newly serviced, if needed, we
give free estimates), accessories including power cord, foot pedal, and owner‘s manual (we can
order most books). We will demystify how to thread, operate, get you up and running so you can
start or return to sewing. Let us help you!

Sewing Basics Studio
This class is for every sewing artists that wants to expand their sewing skills. Have assistance in
choosing and completion of your projects based on your sewing experience. An experienced

Sewphisticates
Have you looked at some of the wonderful new patterns, but doubted your ability to make them on
your own? This is the course to take if you have a few skills and would like to fine-tune them.
Take this course as many times as you wish. Focus on new skills each time by selecting a different

♦ The Basics of Clothing Construction
Learn the techniques of basic clothing construction. The Perfect Skirt
includes pockets, gathered waist, zipper, and applying a yoke waistband.
The Everyday Tank uses bias tape on all of the edges for a professional
finish as well as additional shaping. The Garden Dress uses darts for a
semi-fitted look and gathered waist that ties in the back for a flowy dress.
All skills demonstrated, some outside sewing may be required.

sewing machine operation.

You decide what quilting design you want. The tote will also accommodate other
types of bottles, like a water bottle or a sports drink. All skills demonstrated,
some outside sewing may be required.

REFUND POLICY
We must make our commitment to our teachers one week before the start of
their class. Therefore, refunds and transfers are available when your cancellation is made ONE WEEK BEFORE THE CLASS, less a $5.00 handling fee.
After that, no refunds, transfers or credits can be given.
If Harper’s must cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment, individuals registered for that class will be contacted and given the choice of a full refund or
the substitution of another class.

Jo’s Little

Learn smocking, white-on-white embroidery and information on pleating. Everyone is welcome –

class at no extra cost.

Sewing Studios
Project Linus - www.projectlinus.org
Your volunteer contribution is needed to provide security blankets for traumatized and/or
critically ill children through Project Linus! Various kits and patterns are available, including
Lily’s Hug™, a weighted blanket for autistic children. Bring your basic sewing tools – scissors,
pins, thread, etc. You may bring your own donation of fabric or we will have previously donated
fabric available. Completed quilts are welcome for show and tell. Harper’s is a drop-off location
for your donations of completed quilts. Want more info, email us! The good work of this group
results in 5-45 quilts being donated for children every month! Please pre-register, limit 10.
