This year, the auction includes three spectacular broodmares. One of these is Stirling Savannah, older but in foal to Byalee Briar and she does represent one of the last Salute mares available. Remember, Victory Salute, now ranked in the top 10 Grand Prix dressage horses in the world, is also by Salute. Stirling Savannah is also famous for being the dam of Australian Grand Prix dressage champion Byalee Magic. Also in the broodmares is the magnificentmoving 3yo Joyful Morning R, who is a collection of the best dressage bloodlines in the world. The main thrust, however, is all about amazing youngsters, an opportunity to buy, at a much-reduced price, horses that represent the best quality available in Australia. The sires of these amazing youngsters include: Regardez Moi (imp), Australian Grand Prix dressage champion, Furst Love (imp), Samarant (frozen semen), Highlight Australia (imp), Royal Hit (imp), Jive Magic (imp), Wolfingham Dalziel, Whisper IV (imp), Don Frederico (frozen semen), Fiji R (imp), Lauries As (imp) and Promise R. These stallions pretty well represent most dressage bloodlines in the world of any significance. Amongst these youngsters will be individuals that are very quiet, very trainable and will offer enormous pleasure to any rider including those that ride for recreational and enjoyment. On the other hand, some of these youngsters are born with souls that naturally sing and have an inner synergy with a prima ballerina or Olympic performances. Finally these are especially selected ridden horses. This section mainly represents the dressage and jumping disciplines and includes Jackman R, 8yo, black, four white socks and pretty well onto all of the Prix St Georges movements. Jackman R is outstanding for his handsome looks and soft temperament, making him suitable for not only a competition rider but also the recreational rider who yearns for something special. OF THE Sydney 2011 FORWARD Conversely, Rogue Trader R is a big, beautifully bred dark chestnut, just 4yo. Rogue Trader R has already started his competition career with a multitude of wins and scores over 70%. This is one of those youngsters for the soaring soul and a destiny to be the best. In between these two representatives are horses like Princess, a black mare by Regardez Moi out of a stockhorse dam, who although just 4yo is so quiet she can be ridden by beginners and who is just beautiful to look at and beautiful by nature. Princess would be just as happy in the hack ring, or a led class, or a dressage arena, or cantering over little ditches and water splashes and banks on a cross-country course. Although Princess does have talent her nature makes her highly suitable for almost anybody. In addition, the auction traditionally starts with one service fee to six Auction of the Stars stallions, which are offered with no reserve. Regardez Moi (imp) normally stands at $3850 but in the auction situation it has been known for this service fee to be purchased for as little as $1500. The other five stallions offering an unreserved service fee for auction include Jive Magic (imp), Byalee Romance, Byalee Briar (imp), Fiji R (imp) and Starnberg (imp). The auction does cover 2 days starting on Saturday June 25 at midday, when the young horses are led in individually and freeschooled in their initial presentation to the public. Of course, this is a dress rehearsal and lets us see how each youngster handles the arena and circumstances, plus allows us to check all of our sound gear, the co-ordination of staff and the timely presentation of each lot. For a potential buyer, however, seeing the horses and how they handle the atmosphere and facilities first up does provide insight into the character of each horse. The parade will finish by 2.30pm and the ridden horses will then come into the arena in groups. The horses will be shown off by their vendors for 10 minutes or so under saddle, and members of the public who are interested in trialling these horses will be invited to come forward and have a ride. Each group lasts for about 30 minutes only. Of course some people will be organised enough that they will have trialled the horses in the week or so leading up to the auction. Nevertheless watching the horses being ridden by other riders, and also riding the horses in an environment that they are not so used to, does represent an opportunity to have insight into the character, temperament and the long-suffering aspect of each horse. For some people it is a little intimidating to ride a new horse in front of other people. This is understandable, but we do promote the fact that if you are not prepared to look after your own interests, then it is highly likely no one else will! At the end of the day, the worst thing that happens, in these trialling situations, is that people feel self conscious and somewhat embarrassed. In the cold light of day, that’s not a good reason to stop you, from doing something you love. Most people do overcome this embarrassment, phenomenon, when they rationalise it like this. This trialling is not a schooling session, rather just a familiarisation session. It does happen that occasionally a nice-looking horse does not feel nearly so good once you get on and have a ride. We would just recommend that you get off after a little ride, be polite, and write on your catalogue, not for you. Of course, the opposite does happen sometimes as well, and a horse that did not catch your eye in the catalogue, actually rides unexpectedly well. In that case, we would encourage people to make a positive comment on their catalogue and follow up a little later by talking to the vendors to research further details. There are a number of ridden horses and people searching for a horse will often trial a few, or why not all of them? In this case, one horse will blur into the other so making notes on your catalogue to keep your thoughts straight is important. The trialling will finish by 4pm, then the six Auction of the Stars stallions - Regardez Moi, Jive Magic, Byalee Briar, Byalee Romance, Fiji R and Starnberg - will all come in one at a time and do a 10-minute presentation. The stallion parade will take about an hour and by 5pm there will be a free sausage sizzle and glass of wine available! OF THE Sydney 2011 FORWARD Now that is the “quiet” day. Sunday June 26 is action packed starting at 8am sharp, with trialling of ridden horses until 9am. From 9am until 11am, the parade of youngsters is repeated and by now, the Auction of the Stars team will be starting to present in a very professional manner (hopefully). Come 11am and we present our traditional masterclass which involves all of the Auction of the Stars stallions. In this presentation we talk about the training of the dressage horse from the very beginning right through the different grades to the end product – the Grand Prix horse. The stallions we have, do represent different positions in the pathway to Grand Prix, and just what we are doing, and how we are trying to achieve the next step is all part of the masterclass. Rozzie Ryan traditionally does a Grand Prix freestyle performance to music on Jive Magic and Heath Ryan, riding Regardez Moi, will traditionally talk his way through the obstacles a rider needs to overcome as they navigate their way through the Grand Prix dressage test. The masterclass is expected to finish around 12.30pm. The auction will start at 1.30pm. We will be congratulating ourselves if we can get the last lot through the auction by 5.30pm. The auction itself is magnificent entertainment and at times very moving when bidders battle it out for ownership of individual lots. The howls of delight from a successful buyer make even the hardest of souls soften and smile. Without a doubt, whether people are successful in securing a new horse, or if people have come just to watch and be entertained (which they are very welcome to do), all will go home acknowledging that a group of horses of the highest quality has just changed hands. These will be two days, free of charge, that will make up for a fascinating experience. OF THE OF THE www.auctionofthestars.com Sydney 2011 Regardez Moi STANDING AT RYANS, HEATHERBRAE, NSW LOT A Pic: PeterStoop@exemail.com.au Black Grand Prix stallion 16.3hh 1996 Regardez Moi had a huge year in 2010 – it was the year he repeated his feat of 2008-9 to once again become the reigning Australian Grand Prix Champion, in fact winning not only the Grand Prix but indeed every class in which he competed at the Australian National Championships. This followed a huge year in 2009 where he represented Australia at the World Cup Dressage Finals in the USA at Las Vegas, the first of what we hope will be many Australian representative honours for Regardez Moi, now aimed at the London 2012 Olympics. At home Regardez Moi has been having great success with his progeny. At one of our interstate auctions five Regardez Moi lots sold at an average of $17,950.00!! This has to be some sort of Australian record. The Regardez Moi youngsters are showing great talent for piaffe and passage and are likely to find Grand Prix relatively easy. We promote the statistic that only 3% of the horse population has a vocabulary of movements that allows them to have the potential to do Grand Prix. Regardez Moi was born for this. Live cover only. He is a legend! On the dam line, Byalee Briar is out of a Bernstein mare. Bernstein is a Swedish warmblood stallion, sire of many approved stallions, again with a pedigree that has proved itself in the ranks of Grand Prix in Europe and the US. Bernstein also sired Madonna, the winner of the national Swedish finals for four-yearolds, and won the Breeders’ Trophy for 5- and 6-year olds. He was himself stallion of the year in dressage in Sweden in 2001. Together these bloodlines have now produced an exciting stallion! Byalee Briar is just beginning to develop what will be an amazing competition trot. He has inherited Briar’s incredible uphill canter with strong shoulder and knee action, and shows that ever-essential correct walk. Byalee Briar is already winning annual championships at preliminary level, so quiet he can be campaigned by a teenaged pony clubber in the EFA ranks, and his babies are friendly with great conformation and amazing movement. He jumps, practises polocrosse, and rides out like a gelding babysitting the young horses. Byalee is thrilled to be able to offer these wonderful bloodlines live in the Southern Hemisphere. As a bonus, Byalee Briar is a palomino, with the colour dating back eight generations of Swedish warmbloods. Breanna has had great success with Fiji R, winning with scores over 75%. These scores have been posted at major competitions including Sydney competitions. Fiji R has now started competing at medium level and to date is undefeated, again posting big scores in the high 60s and low 70%. This in itself is quite a phenomenon! Fiji R has the quietest of temperaments which he passes on to his foals and makes him an absolute delight at competitions. Fiji R has quite remarkable paces with a very distinctive walk. Trot is fully suspended with a definite ballerina poise between beats. Canter is beautifully balanced and uphill with super easy flying changes. Fiji R is sensationally bred with his sire Florencio being both the 5yo and again the 6yo World Champion young dressage horse. Florencio I is by Florestan I who has emerged as one of the recent very important dressage lines in Germany and who has a number of Olympic offspring to his credit already. On the dam line is a mix of Trakehner through the very famous Hohenstein and thoroughbred through the Hill Hawke line. The Hill Hawke line has become famous as a dam line by also being the dam line of the Welt Hit line. Jive Magic has absolutely explosive extensions coupled with a wonderful interpretation of piaffe and a smooth as silk transition into a passage which is full of bend and coiled power and harmony. Jive Magic is bred to do this and unbelievably his younger brother, Chatham Park Jac under Rachael Sanna, has already represented Australia in the Dressage Team at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen 2006. Jive Magic is by Jazz who is currently the number one dressage sire in the world today and is also the sire of Dutch dressage sensation Parzival ridden by Adelinde Cornelissen. On the dam’s side, Jive Magic comes from Landadel who was the sire of both dressage horses and show-jumping horses at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Right down on the bottom line is Aktion who represented Poland at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and actually scored 10’s for his piaffe and passage. Little wonder the first of Jive Magic’s offspring are almost immediately making an impact on the competition arenas around the world. At last year’s Sydney CDI Jive Magic danced his way through the Grand Prix test to convincingly defeat the best horses Australia has on offer. He was selected and bought by his owner/rider Pamela Maine. Starnberg is a light, elegant, modern warmblood and has the most beautiful conformation. The Starnberg foals are creating a real stir and seem to be inheriting their fathers beautiful temperament and extraordinary good looks. Starnberg himself has massive overtrack in his walk, a truly exciting trot that shows talent for collection and indeed piaffe steps, and an explosive natural affinity with expansive passage and extensions. The canter is beautifully balanced and light. When ridden quietly the canter is a ladies’ delight being super collected, extremely comfortable and ever-so-light in the hand. However, when ridden energetically in a competition production Starnberg comes alive with very expressive front leg action and great hock action all being presented in a beautiful round outline with the steadiest of head carriages. Starnberg’s flying changes are a party trick and even at this very young age he is already showing talent for tempi changes. At the recent Sydney CDI dressage show in April 2011, Starnberg took part in the stallion parade and showed off canter pirouettes and some super tempi changes down to every third stride and received acclaim from perhaps the most discerning dressage crowd in Australia. Joyful Morning R ON ACCOUNT OF RYANS LOT 1 Pic: PeterStoop@exemail.com.au Bay mare 01/02/08 PPT Starnberg (imp) Joyful Morning R is a sensational young mare in foal to the sensational young imported stallion Starnberg. Joyful Morning R is by Jive Magic who is Rozzie Ryan’s big hope for the London 2012 Olympics. Joyful Morning R is out of a brilliant Ryan broodmare called Misty Morning R. Misty Morning R carries the Danish May Sherif bloodlines, the English Dutch Courage bloodlines, the German Donnerhall bloodlines, the German Pik Bube bloodlines and the Dutch Saluut bloodlines. Diamond Delight herself was a smaller mare standing 15.3hh – moved like a ballerina and had the exquisite looks of an angel. Joyful Morning R has all of this and has also inherited the enormous power of Jive Magic. This is very clearly illustrated in the photo. Joyful Morning R’s first foal is by Regardez Moi and this foal is a filly and has been retained by Ryans. Also Ryans have a full sister to Joyful Morning R called Just Morning R who will also be retained to maintain this very exciting broodmare line. Of course this in itself makes Joyful Morning R of great interest from a commercial point of view because Ryans, will be aggressively promoting this bloodline for the foreseeable future. We do anticipate progeny from this line, to demand big prices in the future. This is a unique opportunity to purchase a broodmare on the cutting edge of genetics in Australia today. Mina’s 3yo brother Dexter has shown super movement, ability, and temperament. Mina shows three outstanding paces, with the awesome Weltmeyer trot. Her bloodlines have the excellent Weltmeyer/Rubinstein/Donnerhall cross that is so sought-after by riders and breeders alike. She is also easy and quiet to deal with and represents a bargain-priced, top-shelf prospect. She will be an asset to any rider or breeding establishment. His effortless movements and bold presence mimic that of his sire, Fürst Love. He boasts a naturally arching neck with a beautiful head set and impeccable conformation. Fürst Love was Oldenburger licensed in 2008 and has recently completed an impressive 30-day performance test as a 2yo, where he finished 3rd behind two 4yo stallions. Anyone who has seen footage of this young stallion has been truly captivated by his impressive hock and knee action and his show stopping canter. He is by champion sire Fürst Heinrich who, as a 5yo in 2003, was crowned World Dressage Champion. Fuhrnatic’s dam, Wigeway Solitare, is also the dam of champion young horse and now 2* eventer, Frontier Psychiatrist, owned and ridden by Jade Findlay. Solitaire is by the super sire, Salute, who is the sire of countless international 3-day eventers, grand prix dressage and World Cup showjumping horses including outstanding 2010 WEG Grand Prix performer, Victory Salute, ridden by Brett Parbery. In actual fact Princess is performance bred on both sides of her pedigree with her mother having had great success at medium level dressage. Princess herself is black and very pleasingly put together. Basically very pretty! In the paces department again Princess is talented. She is also extremely quiet to handle and is naturally long-suffering. Princess is at first glance a potential dressage horse but her willingness to perform does spill over into the jumping arena and she is quite impressive over cross-country fences including water jumps, ditches and banks. Show jumping Princess is very straight forward, tries hard to leave the fences alone and has a classical technique which is sharp in front and a good opening up action behind. Princess is a lovely smaller warmblood, would suit a junior, a beginner or a serious competition rider. Leo is out of the talented and athletic TB sister of Australian National level Grand Prix horse Versailles, the piaffe machine who was awarded 4th place by chief international judge Wim Ermes, and 10th place overall in the CDI Grand Prix at Sydney CDI 2010 before his untimely death at the end of 2010, an incredible feat for any horse let alone an ex-racehorse! Leo has inherited the sensible, trainable and talented characteristics of his super bloodlines and has broken in beautifully, showing a cadenced but quick hindleg in trot, an excellent walk and a canter built to collect and extend effortlessly.
