Auction of the Stars in Sydney
This year our annual Sydney Auction of the Stars is at the very beautiful
and exclusive Sydney Polo Club at Richmond, just 50-odd minutes
from Sydney Airport. This year, the auction includes three spectacular
broodmares. One of these is Stirling Savannah, older but in foal to
Byalee Briar and she does represent one of the last Salute mares
available. Remember, Victory Salute, now ranked in the top 10 Grand
Prix dressage horses in the world, is also by Salute. Stirling Savannah
is also famous for being the dam of Australian Grand Prix dressage
champion Byalee Magic. Also in the broodmares is the magnificentmoving 3yo Joyful Morning R, who is a collection of the best dressage
bloodlines in the world.
The main thrust, however, is all about amazing youngsters, an opportunity
to buy, at a much-reduced price, horses that represent the best quality
available in Australia. The sires of these amazing youngsters include:
Regardez Moi (imp), Australian Grand Prix dressage champion, Furst
Love (imp), Samarant (frozen semen), Highlight Australia (imp),
Royal Hit (imp), Jive Magic (imp), Wolfingham Dalziel, Whisper IV
(imp), Don Frederico (frozen semen), Fiji R (imp), Lauries As (imp)
and Promise R. These stallions pretty well represent most dressage
bloodlines in the world of any significance.
Amongst these youngsters will be individuals that are very quiet, very
trainable and will offer enormous pleasure to any rider including those
that ride for recreational and enjoyment. On the other hand, some of
these youngsters are born with souls that naturally sing and have an
inner synergy with a prima ballerina or Olympic performances.
Finally these are especially selected ridden horses. This section mainly
represents the dressage and jumping disciplines and includes Jackman
R, 8yo, black, four white socks and pretty well onto all of the Prix
St Georges movements. Jackman R is outstanding for his handsome
looks and soft temperament, making him suitable for
not only a competition rider but also the
recreational rider who yearns for
something special.
OF THE
Sydney 2011
FORWARD
Conversely, Rogue Trader R is a big, beautifully bred dark chestnut, just
4yo. Rogue Trader R has already started his competition career with a
multitude of wins and scores over 70%. This is one of those youngsters
for the soaring soul and a destiny to be the best. In between these two
representatives are horses like Princess, a black mare by Regardez Moi
out of a stockhorse dam, who although just 4yo is so quiet she can be
ridden by beginners and who is just beautiful to look at and beautiful
by nature. Princess would be just as happy in the hack ring, or a led
class, or a dressage arena, or cantering over little ditches and water
splashes and banks on a cross-country course. Although Princess does
have talent her nature makes her highly suitable for almost anybody.
In addition, the auction traditionally starts with one service fee to
six Auction of the Stars stallions, which are offered with no reserve.
Regardez Moi (imp) normally stands at $3850 but in the auction
situation it has been known for this service fee to be purchased for as
little as $1500. The other five stallions offering an unreserved service
fee for auction include Jive Magic (imp), Byalee Romance, Byalee Briar
(imp), Fiji R (imp) and Starnberg (imp). The auction does cover 2
days starting on Saturday June 25 at midday, when the young horses
are led in individually and freeschooled in their initial presentation
to the public. Of course, this is a dress rehearsal and lets us see how
each youngster handles the arena and circumstances, plus allows us to
check all of our sound gear, the co-ordination of staff and the timely
presentation of each lot. For a potential buyer, however, seeing the
horses and how they handle the atmosphere and facilities first up does
provide insight into the character of each horse.
The parade will finish by 2.30pm and the ridden horses will then come
into the arena in groups. The horses will be shown off by their vendors
for 10 minutes or so under saddle, and members of the public who
are interested in trialling these horses will be invited to come forward
and have a ride. Each group lasts for about 30 minutes only. Of course
some people will be organised enough that they will have trialled the
horses in the week or so leading up to the auction.
Nevertheless watching the horses being ridden by other riders, and
also riding the horses in an environment that they are not so used
to, does represent an opportunity to have insight into the character,
temperament and the long-suffering aspect of each horse.
For some people it is a little intimidating to ride a new horse in front
of other people. This is understandable, but we do promote the fact
that if you are not prepared to look after your own interests, then
it is highly likely no one else will! At the end of the day, the worst
thing that happens, in these trialling situations, is that people feel self
conscious and somewhat embarrassed. In the cold light of day, that’s
not a good reason to stop you, from doing something you love. Most
people do overcome this embarrassment, phenomenon, when they
rationalise it like this. This trialling is not a schooling session, rather
just a familiarisation session.
It does happen that occasionally a nice-looking horse does not feel
nearly so good once you get on and have a ride. We would just
recommend that you get off after a little ride, be polite, and write
on your catalogue, not for you. Of course, the opposite does happen
sometimes as well, and a horse that did not catch your eye in the
catalogue, actually rides unexpectedly well. In that case, we would
encourage people to make a positive comment on their catalogue and
follow up a little later by talking to the vendors to research further
details.
There are a number of ridden horses and people searching for a horse
will often trial a few, or why not all of them? In this case, one horse
will blur into the other so making notes on your catalogue to keep
your thoughts straight is important. The trialling will finish by 4pm,
then the six Auction of the Stars stallions - Regardez Moi, Jive Magic,
Byalee Briar, Byalee Romance, Fiji R and Starnberg - will all come in
one at a time and do a 10-minute presentation. The stallion
parade will take about an hour and by 5pm there
will be a free sausage sizzle and glass
of wine available!
OF THE
Sydney 2011
FORWARD
Now that is the “quiet” day. Sunday June 26 is action packed starting
at 8am sharp, with trialling of ridden horses until 9am. From 9am until
11am, the parade of youngsters is repeated and by now, the Auction
of the Stars team will be starting to present in a very professional
manner (hopefully). Come 11am and we present our traditional
masterclass which involves all of the Auction of the Stars stallions.
In this presentation we talk about the training of the dressage horse
from the very beginning right through the different grades to the end
product – the Grand Prix horse.
The stallions we have, do represent different positions in the pathway
to Grand Prix, and just what we are doing, and how we are trying
to achieve the next step is all part of the masterclass. Rozzie Ryan
traditionally does a Grand Prix freestyle performance to music on Jive
Magic and Heath Ryan, riding Regardez Moi, will traditionally talk his
way through the obstacles a rider needs to overcome as they navigate
their way through the Grand Prix dressage test. The masterclass is
expected to finish around 12.30pm. The auction will start at 1.30pm.
We will be congratulating ourselves if we can get the last lot through
the auction by 5.30pm.
The auction itself is magnificent entertainment and at times very
moving when bidders battle it out for ownership of individual lots. The
howls of delight from a successful buyer make even the hardest of
souls soften and smile. Without a doubt, whether people are successful
in securing a new horse, or if people have come just to watch and be
entertained (which they are very welcome to do), all will go home
acknowledging that a group of horses of the highest quality has just
changed hands. These will be two days, free of charge, that will make
up for a fascinating experience.
Wishing everyone two great days
From the Directors
Heath Ryan

Black Grand Prix stallion 16.3hh 1996
Regardez Moi had a huge year in 2010 – it was the year he repeated his feat of 2008-9
to once again become the reigning Australian Grand Prix Champion, in fact winning
not only the Grand Prix but indeed every class in which he competed at the Australian
National Championships. This followed a huge year in 2009 where he represented
Australia at the World Cup Dressage Finals in the USA at Las Vegas, the first of what
we hope will be many Australian representative honours for Regardez Moi, now aimed
at the London 2012 Olympics. At home Regardez Moi has been having great success
with his progeny. At one of our interstate auctions five Regardez Moi lots sold at an
average of $17,950.00!! This has to be some sort of Australian record. The Regardez Moi
youngsters are showing great talent for piaffe and passage and are likely to find Grand
Prix relatively easy. We promote the statistic that only 3% of the horse population has
a vocabulary of movements that allows them to have the potential to do Grand Prix.
Regardez Moi was born for this. Live cover only.

LOT B
Pic: Jody M Photography
Palomino stallion 17.1hh 2004
Byalee Briar is an amazing opportunity to acquire a highly sought-after European
pedigree - Bjorsells Briar 899 has long been the world’s number one dressage breeding
stallion! He is a legend! On the dam line, Byalee Briar is out of a Bernstein mare.
Bernstein is a Swedish warmblood stallion, sire of many approved stallions, again with
a pedigree that has proved itself in the ranks of Grand Prix in Europe and the US.
Bernstein also sired Madonna, the winner of the national Swedish finals for four-yearolds, and won the Breeders’ Trophy for 5- and 6-year olds. He was himself stallion of
the year in dressage in Sweden in 2001. Together these bloodlines have now produced
an exciting stallion! Byalee Briar is just beginning to develop what will be an amazing
competition trot. He has inherited Briar’s incredible uphill canter with strong shoulder
and knee action, and shows that ever-essential correct walk. Byalee Briar is already
winning annual championships at preliminary level, so quiet he can be campaigned
by a teenaged pony clubber in the EFA ranks, and his babies are friendly with great
conformation and amazing movement. He jumps, practises polocrosse, and rides out
like a gelding babysitting the young horses. Byalee is thrilled to be able to offer these
wonderful bloodlines live in the Southern Hemisphere. As a bonus, Byalee Briar is a
palomino, with the colour dating back eight generations of Swedish warmbloods. Live

Black stallion 16.2hh 01/07/04
Fiji R is an exciting young imported stallion campaigned and trained by young rider
Breanna Tilitzki. Breanna has had great success with Fiji R, winning with scores over 75%.
These scores have been posted at major competitions including Sydney competitions.
Fiji R has now started competing at medium level and to date is undefeated, again
posting big scores in the high 60s and low 70%. This in itself is quite a phenomenon!
Fiji R has the quietest of temperaments which he passes on to his foals and makes
him an absolute delight at competitions. Fiji R has quite remarkable paces with a
very distinctive walk. Trot is fully suspended with a definite ballerina poise between
beats. Canter is beautifully balanced and uphill with super easy flying changes. Fiji R is
sensationally bred with his sire Florencio being both the 5yo and again the 6yo World
Champion young dressage horse. Florencio I is by Florestan I who has emerged as one
of the recent very important dressage lines in Germany and who has a number of
Olympic offspring to his credit already. On the dam line is a mix of Trakehner through
the very famous Hohenstein and thoroughbred through the Hill Hawke line. The Hill
Hawke line has become famous as a dam line by also being the dam line of the Welt
Hit line. Many of the top Australian riders have a Fiji R youngster growing out in their
backyard for the future including riders such as Rachael Sanna.

LOT D
Pic: PeterStoop@exemail.com.au
Bay FEI stallion 16.3hh 1996
Jive Magic is often referred to as the most powerful dressage horse in Australia. Jive
Magic has absolutely explosive extensions coupled with a wonderful interpretation
of piaffe and a smooth as silk transition into a passage which is full of bend and
coiled power and harmony. Jive Magic is bred to do this and unbelievably his younger
brother, Chatham Park Jac under Rachael Sanna, has already represented Australia in the
Dressage Team at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen 2006.
Jive Magic is by Jazz who is currently the number one dressage sire in the world today
and is also the sire of Dutch dressage sensation Parzival ridden by Adelinde Cornelissen.
On the dam’s side, Jive Magic comes from Landadel who was the sire of both dressage
horses and show-jumping horses at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Right down on the
bottom line is Aktion who represented Poland at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and actually
scored 10’s for his piaffe and passage. Little wonder the first of Jive Magic’s offspring
are almost immediately making an impact on the competition arenas around the world.
At last year’s Sydney CDI Jive Magic danced his way through the Grand Prix test to
convincingly defeat the best horses Australia has on offer. Jive Magic’s current program
is aimed at making the Australian dressage team for the 2012 London Olympics.

Pic: PeterStoop@exemail.com.au
Black stallion 16.1hh 2005
Starnberg is an exquisite imported 30-day tested German licensed stallion. He was
selected and bought by his owner/rider Pamela Maine. Starnberg is a light, elegant,
modern warmblood and has the most beautiful conformation. The Starnberg foals are
creating a real stir and seem to be inheriting their fathers beautiful temperament and
extraordinary good looks. Starnberg himself has massive overtrack in his walk, a truly
exciting trot that shows talent for collection and indeed piaffe steps, and an explosive
natural affinity with expansive passage and extensions. The canter is beautifully
balanced and light. When ridden quietly the canter is a ladies’ delight being super
collected, extremely comfortable and ever-so-light in the hand. However, when ridden
energetically in a competition production Starnberg comes alive with very expressive
front leg action and great hock action all being presented in a beautiful round outline
with the steadiest of head carriages. Starnberg’s flying changes are a party trick and
even at this very young age he is already showing talent for tempi changes. At the
recent Sydney CDI dressage show in April 2011, Starnberg took part in the stallion
parade and showed off canter pirouettes and some super tempi changes down to every
third stride and received acclaim from perhaps the most discerning dressage crowd in
Australia. His presentation was very popular.

Bay stallion 16.3hh 2002
Romance is a powerhouse young stallion with some incredibly exciting movement,
just starting to hit his straps and recently performing at Sydney CDI and NSW State
Dressage Championships. By Australian international Grand Prix stallion Regardez
Moi, his dam line features the German stallion Lanthan (dec), who sired beautiful,
elegant warmbloods renowned for their temperaments and talent in both dressage and
showjumping. Romance is winning championships at medium/advanced lvel dressage
and is working with huge talent and enthusiasm through the Grand Prix movements.
He has an even, regular walk with a clear rhythm and a mind-blowing trot that has
Grand Prix written all over it. It is a delight to ride and indicates that like his dad, he
will have international standard piaffe and passage. The canter right from the day he
was born had magical talent, and Romance loves to collect. He is the consummate show
off, a big friendly puppydog, who loves licorice and scratches. At the same time, he is
a professional who is always alert, able to receive sophisticated information and react
without stress. He loves to work and hates days off. He is a beautiful and obviously
upstanding individual - closer analysis makes him incredibly exciting from a technical
point of view and we feel that he is part of a dawning age of dressage in Australia.

Joyful Morning R is a sensational young mare in foal to the sensational young imported
stallion Starnberg. Joyful Morning R is by Jive Magic who is Rozzie Ryan’s big hope
for the London 2012 Olympics. Joyful Morning R is out of a brilliant Ryan broodmare
called Misty Morning R. Misty Morning R carries the Danish May Sherif bloodlines,
the English Dutch Courage bloodlines, the German Donnerhall bloodlines, the German
Pik Bube bloodlines and the Dutch Saluut bloodlines. Diamond Delight herself was a
smaller mare standing 15.3hh – moved like a ballerina and had the exquisite looks of
an angel. Joyful Morning R has all of this and has also inherited the enormous power
of Jive Magic. This is very clearly illustrated in the photo. Joyful Morning R’s first foal
is by Regardez Moi and this foal is a filly and has been retained by Ryans. Also Ryans
have a full sister to Joyful Morning R called Just Morning R who will also be retained to
maintain this very exciting broodmare line. Of course this in itself makes Joyful Morning
R of great interest from a commercial point of view because Ryans, will be aggressively
promoting this bloodline for the foreseeable future. We do anticipate progeny from
this line, to demand big prices in the future. This is a unique opportunity to purchase a
broodmare on the cutting edge of genetics in Australia today.

Chocolate brown colt 29/12/2010
This colt is simply stunning and this is not an overstatement!! Casanova is dark
chocolate in colour with four white socks and a star in the shape of a bow tie! He
is a real head turner and would stand out anywhere. He has huge presence and is a
major show off, with fantastic movement and athleticism. On Fiji R, his sire’s side, he
boasts the sought after lines of Florencio, who took the equine world by storm and was
the World Young Horse Dressage Champion as a 5yo, then again as a 6yo. We are so
lucky to have these bloodlines in Australia! Casanova’s dam, Skansen Cloud 9 (an elite
studbook mare) is by Jet Set D, one of the most successful Dutch dressage stallions.
Skansen Cloud 9 is exceptional, one of the most beautiful broodmares in Australia with
supermodel looks, extravagant movement and a wonderful generous temperament.
Her three previous foals have sold at Auction of the Stars in the highest price bracket
and the new owners are all thrilled.
These bloodlines are unique and we feel that Casanova has stallion potential. Casanova
is already displaying a brilliant temperament. He is inquisitive and loves life, but at
the same time, is easy going and a true gentleman in every way. We expect him to be

Brown gelding 12/2006
Dexter is an outstanding 3-year-old gelding with exceptional bloodlines, temperament,
ability and movement for dressage, as well as showing aptitude for jumping. Dexter’s
father is German supersire Damsay, a super tractable stallion who was successful in
the young horse classes at the Bundeschampionate (awarded 8s and 9s for his paces,
and most important, rideability) who has gone on to Grand Prix level. His dam sire,
Regardez Moi, needs no introduction as a Grand Prix superstar whose superb bloodlines
and inheritability are producing superb international level youngsters. Dexter’s dam
has already produced two super youngsters including multiple championship winning
5yo and 4yo Don Rubin and Callum Park Freya. Dex shows three excellent paces with
a huge striding walk, a swinging active trot with lots of knee and hock action, and
an easy loose bounding canter. He has broken in beautifully and shows aptitude and
temperament for his training. Reluctantly for sale, the flashy but sensible Dexter, will
be a super young horse prospect with the ability to go all the way.

This is a very eye-catching bay filly with four white socks, a star and a snip. At the time

well-grown, athletic and can really move. She combines proven performance bloodlines
with a trainable temperament. Sire Highborn Powerlifter (dec) was an outstanding
foundation warmblood sire. He was campaigned by Fiona Hughes and was the first
stallion in Australia to pass his performance testing in all three phases, dressage,
showjumping and eventing. He produced successful dressage horses such as Valhalla
Precious Gem, Highborn Baden, Buckwell Park Power Trend (exp) and Buckwell Park

dressage horses for many years. Rogue Trader R is a full package. All quality, but quiet
and safe. He has good walk, correct classical trot with potential to be spectacular,
beautifully balanced canter with talent for collection and a sensationally elegant way
of presenting himself. Rogue Trader R was selected by Heath as an understudy for
Regardez Moi and will indeed continue in that role if he doesn’t sell. He is simply being
offered so that the auction has a magnificent flagship that will make it worthwhile for

showjumper before specialising up in dressage. With Ellen Bontje in the saddle Silvano
N became the cornerstone of the Dutch dressage team in the late 90s and early this
decade. Silvano N did represent Holland at the Sydney 2000 Olympics. On the dam’s
side of Promise R is the wonderful Dutch bloodline of Flemmingh. Funnily enough,
Flemmingh also started life as a showjumper but became known as a superstar
dressage sire with the production of Krack C (Anky van Grunsven), Lingh (Edward Gal),

line of Rosette R is the Salute mare Scooter, who was just the most amazing jumping

16.3hh black gelding 10/01/02
Jackman R is an impressive black gelding with four white socks. Originally Jackman R
was kept because Rozzie fell in love with him and his majestic looks. His breeding is
sensational with his mother Lynx being a full sister to Londoner. Londoner with Heath
in the saddle won the Australian Prix St Georges and Intermediare I Championships
when he was just 6 years of age. (These days a horse has to be 7yo to compete at
this level.) Anyway, Jackman R was out of Lynx and by Jive Magic who is Rozzie’s big
hope for the London 2012 Olympics. Breeding doesn’t get much better than that and
Jackman R also had the looks. The truth is despite all of this Jackman R just isn’t cut
out to go to the Olympics. So now he is looking for a good home where Olympics are
not the expectation. In earlier days Jackman R competed extensively in Young Rider
classes with Bree Tilitzki in the saddle up to and including elementary level. Today,
Jackman R has good shoulder-in, half-pass, single flying changes, canter pirouettes and
the beginnings of some really good piaffe - not too far off doing a Prix St Georges test.
He is a good horse. To handle, Jackman R is really steady and a total gentleman to float
and shoe. He can be left for weeks without being ridden. He is a responsive ride but
very quiet. We are reluctant to advertise him as a beginner’s horse but he is very close!

Dapple grey gelding 16.2hh 10/1/04
Puffin is a beautiful young gelding by the outstanding Grand Prix dressage stallion
Regardez Moi. Regardez Moi is campaigned by Heath Ryan and is the current Australian
Grand Prix Dressage Champion, this is the second time he has been the National
Champion. Regardez Moi also represented Australia at the 2009 World Cup Finals in
Las Vegas USA. On the dam’s side the bloodlines are quite unusual in that there is a
double cross of Spanish-blood. These bloodlines are the result of the Ryan family horse
breeding program originally started by Heath’s parents, Rod and Sue, a long time ago,
which led to the production of Benwerrin of Coolalee and Southland of Coolalee, both of
which were involved in the lead up to the 1988 Seoul Olympics. The Andalusian blood
was added to Heath’s breeding program specifically to increase the genetic capacity
for piaffe and passage. Piaffe and passage are known to be highly inheritable and this
strong focus on genetics is a key aspect of Heath and Rozzie Ryans breeding program.
Puffin has spent 2 years in serious training with the Ryans and is currently schooling
shoulder-in, half pass, flying changes, medium trot and canter pirouette. Puffin is really
confident, has a very quiet temperament. Puffin has a future as a serious competition
horse.

Bay filly 17/12/2010
Bred by Southern Stars Dressage, Radiance could quite possibly be of international
standard; certainly her genetics dictate the ability to be so. The first foal from this
mare has definitely not disappointed us! Her imported grandsire, Kaptain, is a stunning
16.3hh black stallion. Kaptain is a compact type with very correct conformation and
suspended ground-covering paces. Also a talented jumper and showing great style
and potential over fences, Kaptain’s pedigree is most impressive with 4 Grand Prix
showjumpers within 3 generations. Kaptain’s sire, Clintino stands out because of his
quality, supple, ground-covering movement with plenty of impulsion from behind. And
with his pedigree he is, of course, also blessed with exceptional jumping talent. Clintino
has two stallions in the front generations of his pedigree who have won Grand Prix
themselves - Caretino and Come On. Also in his sire line is Sandro, the grand sire of the
fabulous dressage horse and influential sire, Sandro Hit! Dressage students should not
dismiss this foal as her movement is awe-inspiring, with balance, power and grace,
plus a very sweet, willing temperament. Radiance is eligible for ACE registration and
with an expected mature height exceeding 16.1hh, also offers an excellent breeding
prospect.

Frosty Morning R
ON ACCOUNT OF RYANS
LOT 26
Pic: PeterStoop@exemail.com.au
Bay colt 20/10/10
Fiji R is fast developing a reputation for throwing very good-looking foals, almost
feminine, who are very quiet and who really, really move. Frosty Morning R has all
of this AND has also inherited from his Jive Magic mother, power and scope to burn.
He is a fascinating study of a beautiful blend of two very different lines. Both of these
lines, the Florestan I line and the Jazz line, are legends in their own right the world
over. Interestingly, there are very few examples in the world of these two lines coming
together and producing a genetic mix. Frosty Morning R is a sensation. He is very petite
with a finely chiselled face and a beautiful big star in the middle of his forehead. He
moves with the grace of a ballerina, however, he also has great technique from behind
and comes off the ground in defiance of gravity. Fiji R, sire of Frosty Morning R, is by
Florencio who was the World Young Horse dressage champion as a 5 year old and then
again as a 6 year old. On the dam’s side Frosty Morning R is out of a Jive Magic mare,
Just Morning R, who in turn is out of a Richmeed Medallion mare. Both Jive Magic and
Richmeed Medallion are or were sensational Grand Prix competition stallions. Diamond
Delight, who is the great grand-dam right down the bottom, is by Don Ramiro, a
most sensational young dressage stallion under Heath Ryan before being sold back
to Germany. Diamond Delight is in turn out of a Salute mare! Frosty Morning R is so
modern and so beautiful.

Princess is a beautiful soft black mare by the current Australian Grand Prix Dressage
Champion Regardez Moi. In actual fact Princess is performance bred on both sides of
her pedigree with her mother having had great success at medium level dressage.
Princess herself is black and very pleasingly put together. Basically very pretty! In the
paces department again Princess is talented. She is also extremely quiet to handle
and is naturally long-suffering. Princess is at first glance a potential dressage horse
but her willingness to perform does spill over into the jumping arena and she is quite
impressive over cross-country fences including water jumps, ditches and banks. Show
jumping Princess is very straight forward, tries hard to leave the fences alone and has
a classical technique which is sharp in front and a good opening up action behind.
Princess is a lovely smaller warmblood, would suit a junior, a beginner or a serious
competition rider.
