Box 61878, Honolulu, HI 96839 (808) 351-‐‑3882 • Bruce.Liebert@gmail.com The Hawaii/Pacific Islands Region holds an Assemblage every September, which brings together members from the four Hawaii Island Bailliges, as well as other members from the US and International Bailliages, over a period of several days. This year Kathryn Nicholson, Bailli of the Kauai/Oahu Bailliage, and her team have been hard at work putting together what promises to be an exceptional Assemblage at the Waikiki Starwood Resort Hotels. Our Bailli Délégué, Harold Small, will be joining us and performing the indutions at the gala dinner on Saturday, September 19. Please review the attached material and rsvp at your earliest convenience; this will be an Assemblage not to be missed. Vive La Chaîne, Bruce Liebert Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs

The Hawaii/Pacific Islands 2015 Regional Assemblage will be held ocean side in Waikiki, on
the Island of Oahu September 17-20, 2015. This is one of the most exciting and beautiful
areas of Hawaii. Visitors to Waikiki can choose to swim in the warm Pacific Ocean, hike a
volcanic crater, indulge in world-class shopping, take a ride on a catamaran or enjoy the
diverse water sports available. Lounging by the ocean in your own private cabana is always
an option.
The Kauai/Oahu Chapter is excited to be hosting the 2015 Regional Assemblage and we’re
planning special events to make this a memorable “Chaîne” weekend. We’ve chosen the
Waikiki Starwood Resort Hotels to hold our Assemblage activities. All the Starwood Resorts;
The Royal Hawaiian, The Sheraton Waikiki and the Moana Surfrider Hotel & Spa, are in the
heart of Waikiki and a short walk from each other.
The Sheraton Waikiki Resort is offering special “Chaîne” rates for registered members who
want to spend one, two, three or even more nights in Waikiki. The special room rate is
limited. Go to https://www.starwoodmeeting.com/Book/HiPacChaine to reserve your room
today and start planning your Hawaiian vacation.
Bailli Provincial Honoraire
Our welcome reception on Friday September 18 will be held at the “Pink Palace,” the Royal
Hawaiian Hotel. This iconic property is the perfect spot to begin our “Chaîne-style” weekend
celebration of food, wine and camaraderie.
Saturday, September 19. Activities include a private Cabana or pool side lounge chair
including lunch and Mai Tai class, or a private Chaîne catamaran cruise with lunch.
Saturday evening at a Champagne reception, we’ll induct our new Hawaii/Pacific Island
Region members, and then we’ll enjoy a Gala Dinner at the Sheraton Waikiki.
Bid your friends farewell or “Aloha” at the Sunday Bloody Mary Brunch, September 20.
Please join us for this great weekend with all your Chaîne friends for fun in Waikiki.
Space is limited. Registration materials are attached.
Vive la Chaîne, vive la Société!
Aloha,
Kathryn

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO DRESS WHEN YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO WEAR HAWAIIAN FORMAL ATTIRE
Island Formal
Many women in Hawai'i do not own a mu'umu'u or holoku. So when they receive an invitation that says
"Hawaiian Formal Attire," they are mystified. What to wear?
HAWAIIAN STYLE
For the ladies, a holoku is ideal. A custom-made holoku is even better. Allow four to eight weeks to have it made.
In Honolulu, Princess Kaiulani Fashions accept custom orders.
www.pkaiulanifashions.com
(808) 847-4806
A date's sash can even be made to match your holoku.
Not into holoku? A long skirt will do. Top it off with a lacy or ruffled white blouse.
For men, a long-sleeved shirt and sash paired with white pants. A white tuxedo shirt works well,
or dress up a simple long-sleeved oxford shirt with an ascot and coordinating sash.
ACCESSORIES
Ni'ihau shell lei always look right. They're sold at locations including Na Mea Hawai'i,
Ward Warehouse. (808) 596-8885 Or consider a Victorian cameo brooch, bracelet, earrings or necklace.
Handbags in shades of cream or white are a nice finishing touch, as are woven handbags,
called kili bags, from the Marshall Islands at the Honolulu Art Museum gift shop.
Feather lei are sold at Na Mea Hawai'i in Ward Warehouse.
A Victorian hair comb or haku lei can be an attractive adornment for women.
Gloves and fans are also fun accompaniments and can sometimes be found in vintage and antique shops.
For men, a panama hat, preferably with a feather lei, is stylish.
ON YOUR FEET
Bare feet are fine; in fact, they are recommended. If bare feet make you squeamish, socks for men are OK.
If you must wear shoes, white loafers are the best alternative for men, strappy sandals for women.
Tabi, those Japanese cotton foot coverings you see at bon dances, are what tutu wore to formal Hawaiian
occasions; they still look fun and fresh. Shirokiya at Ala Moana Center sells them.
Aloha!
