Stakeholder Communiqué 1
Review of the Role and Function of
Tasmania’s Public VET Providers
Stakeholder Communiqué 1
This Communiqué is the first in a series to inform stakeholders of the progress of the Review
of the Role and Function of Tasmania’s Public VET Providers following the initial meeting of
the Review Reference Group. The Reference Group consists of nominees of the key
stakeholder groups listed on the Review website, where all critical information about the
Review is posted: vetreview@education.tas.gov.au.
The first meeting was held on Tuesday February 7 in Hobart. The Hon Nick McKim MP,
Minister for Education and Skills attended the meeting in order to emphasise the importance
of the Review for the future of Tasmania, to welcome the members and to thank them for
their willingness to act as a sounding board to the Consultant as the Review proceeds.
The Consultant outlined the approach to be used to develop the final recommendations and
the role the Reference Group might play in assisting to shaping these. This is outlined
below:
INDICATIVE PROCESS
The first meeting focussed on sharing and exploring some of the common themes emerging
at this very early stage.

As an important backdrop to these themes, appreciation was expressed for the fact that,
without exception, stakeholders’ initial comments have been constructive, professional,
future-oriented and focussed on the best outcomes for students, employers and the
Tasmanian economy.
Attention then turned to the themes emerging at this early stage. These are still at a very
general level with greater detail and new themes expected as stakeholder submissions and
further information are sought and received.
