Dear Friends,
On behalf of the entire Academy of the Holy Angels community it is my pleasure to
welcome you to this year’s Angelic Evening. An event such as this evening’s certainly
proves the adage “It takes a village”. Many hearts and hands have contributed to tonight’s
success. Our chairperson Mary Ayoub has brought an extraordinary energy and dedication
to lead this event for the last two years. Her willingness to commit both her time and talent
has been amazing and we are very grateful. Colleen Staff and Donna DeConzo have worked
tirelessly as the acquisition co-chairs to provide us with the fabulous and varied items
for our silent and live auctions tonight. Barbara Burklund from our development office
provided her guidance and expertise in all things “Angelic Evening” keeping us all on track
throughout the planning process. I want to extend my thanks to George Ballane, Priscilla
Bishop, Tara Brunt, Julie Collins, Jillane Ferreira, Trish Murphy and Dorrie Voulgaris for
all their support. Countless hours have also been given by our committee members and our
parent and faculty volunteers- to each of you I extend my heartfelt gratitude. I am pleased
to welcome many of our Board of Trustee members and our faculty and staff tonight. Thank
you all for sharing my first official Angelic Evening with me.
Your presence here tonight and support of our program makes a difference in the lives of
our Angels. Tonight’s proceeds will all benefit the Scholarship and Financial Aid programs
here at AHA. I am sure you realize that these funds not only help make an AHA education
available for many young women but also contribute to the sustainability of our school by
providing the support that allows us to continue to attract talented and deserving students
from many backgrounds. The Academy of the Holy Angels, a sponsored work of the School
Sisters of Notre Dame, has been educating young women since 1879. AHA has prepared our
young women for a lifetime of intellectual curiosity, spiritual growth and service to others.
The lives of countless young women have been changed for the better because of the advantage of a Holy Angels education. Your commitment to the vision and the value of a Holy
Angels education will enable us to continue our mission for many years to come.
The Most Reverend John W. Flesey, Regional Bishop of Bergen County, has granted our
Catholic guests a dispensation from having to abstain from meat at tonight’ s Angelic Evening.
With heartfelt thanks I share this blessing for each of you in the words of Blessed Theresa
Gerhardinger: “May the strength and blessing of God the Creator, Redeemer and Holy Spirit

Dear Parents, Faculty and Guests,
It is my honor to welcome you to the Academy of the Holy Angels 18th annual Angelic
Evening. I am so glad that you are here tonight and I thank you for supporting this important event. For the past 17 years Angelic Evening has successfully raised funds through the
generosity and kindness of people like you. The support of the AHA community through
the years has provided for essential changes that have resulted in wonderful enhancements
for our school and most especially for our girls. This year the tradition continues. This year
the proceeds of this evening will benefit many young women by helping to provide them
with a Holy Angels education, something which we all know is priceless. As an alumna and
mother of two AHA students, I am proud to be a part of such an essential cause.
Last year when I was approached about being the chairperson for Angelic Evening, I was
very excited to accept the challenge but admittedly also very afraid. Angelic Evening is an
enormous undertaking and I felt concerned that I would not be able to be as successful as in
years past. I am proud to say that last year was the most successful Angelic Evening to date
and it is my deepest hope that we can achieve even greater success this year.
Chairing an event this large has its challenges but it goes without saying that I could never
succeed without the help and support of the many volunteers who so generously commit
their time and talents for months and months to help ensure the evening’s success. The
unwavering commitment of these extraordinary men and women to this event and to AHA
means so much to me personally and is pivotal to bringing tonight together for all of us.
I’d like to thank our President, Mrs. Melinda Hanlon, for her guidance and support for
Angelic Evening throughout the year. Her willingness to be involved in the details as well
as consideration of and support of many new ideas is very appreciated. Her experience and
knowledge has made my job so much easier and has provided a wonderful sense of community and sharing for all of those involved. I’d like to also thank Tara Brunt for her continued
guidance and support from day one. The support and encouragement she gives when presented with new ideas to continue making Angelic Evening better and better as well as fresh
and new is wonderful. Thank you to George Ballane and the faculty volunteers who ensure
that the technology needed for Angelic Evening runs smoothly and efficiently. And finally, a
very special thank you to Barbara Burklund who is my partner, my friend and a true Angel.
The countless hours she commits every year to Angelic Evening are simply amazing and
this event could never be as successful or run as smoothly without her.
The biggest and most important thank you I have to make is to all of you. Your attendance
here and your generous donations, ads, sponsorships and participation in our raffles tonight
are the reason this event continues to be a success each year. I am truly grateful for your
support of this event and your generosity to the AHA community. My role as chairperson
has been made that much easier this year because of the support of the Administration,
generosity and cooperation of the many parent volunteers, student volunteers, Angel Ambassadors and above all the love and support of my family.

Welcome and thank you for supporting Holy Angels by attending Angelic Evening 2015!
The Parents’ Guild would also like to extend a warm welcome Mrs. Melinda Hanlon. Last
year, Mrs. Hanlon was a guest at Angelic Evening; this evening, she is welcoming all of you
as the new president of AHA.
As an alumna, it was truly a blessing that my parents were able to send me to Holy Angels,
and now my daughters are benefiting from the same high level of education. However, this
same gift may be financially unattainable for many parents. In these difficult times, it is only
fitting that the School Sisters of Notre Dame and AHA have decided to form a scholarship
fund to make a Holy Angels education accessible to so many more young women.
The proceeds from this evening will benefit our current Angels and the Angels of the future.
It will form the foundation for a new need-based scholarship fund that will make a Holy
Angels education possible for girls of all socioeconomic statuses. Blessed Theresa
Gerhardinger, foundress of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, brought her mission of
educating women to the United States. This scholarship fund will allow her mission to
reach its full potential through the diverse group of girls it will serve.
Mary Ayoub, chairwoman of Angelic Evening, the members of her committees, and
Barbara Burklund and the Office of Development have spent countless hours organizing
and planning this spectacular event. The Parents’ Guild Executive Board would like to
express our heartfelt appreciation and thanks.
All of this would not be possible without Blessed Theresa’s vision of a world where women
are educated, a vision executed at Holy Angels since its founding in 1879 by Sister Mary
Nonna Dunphy. Our Angels are and always have been empowered to expand their horizons
each and every day, becoming the strong, confident, and intelligent women we all know
they can be.
May Blessed Mary Theresa of Jesus continue to bless the community of the Academy
of the Holy Angels.

Kathy Kingston
Kathy Kingston is the founder and principal of Kingston
Auction Company which has raised millions of dollars for organizations nationwide. She is the creator of the Philanthropy Model of
Fundraising Auctions.
Kathy, who has been a consultant and professional fundraising
auctioneer for nearly three decades has been awarded two of the auction industry’s major awards, the 2012 Chuck Cumberlin Memorial
Sportsmanship Award and the 2006 Rose Award from the National
Auctioneers Association. Ms. Kingston holds the Certified Auctioneer
Institute (CAI) designation, only three percent of auctioneers worldwide have achieved this status. Kathy was a charter class member and
has been an instructor of the Benefit Auctioneer Specialist (BAS)
professional designation program.
As a consultant, speaker and fundraising auction strategist, she
conducts benefit auction seminars, tele-seminars and custom workshops for nonprofit and educational organizations as well as for professional auctioneers. Kathy holds a Master’s Degree in Education from
Saint Louis University where in 1986 she was named “Woman of the
Year. In 2013, she was inducted into the Million Dollar Consultant™
Hall of Fame.

Auction Rules
1. The winners of the Silent Auction items will be notified electronically of their
successful bid as soon as the bidding closes.
2. The “Buy It Now” option exists for every Silent Auction item. Selecting the
“Buy It Now” option will guarantee that item for the buyer and all bidding for that
item will end.
3. The Auctioneer will acknowledge the successful Live Auction bidders.
4. Successful bidders in the Silent and Live Auctions will be expected to pay for their
items the night of the event and will take their items with them. A paid in full receipt
must be presented when picking up an item.
5. All successful bidders are responsible for contacting the donors to make arrangements for trips or any other items that require coordination. Contact information will
be provided.
6. Effort has been made to describe the items accurately. All items are sold “as is”
with noted restrictions, and without warranty or representation of any kind as to
the correctness of description, authenticity or conditions. The Academy of the Holy
Angels (AHA) and the auctioneer are not liable for misrepresentations.
7. By purchasing an item, the buyer waives any claims for liability against AHA, the
auction committee, or its donors. Neither shall they be responsible for any personal
injuries or damages to property that may result from the utilization of property or
services sold.
8. Vouchers for services, vacation packages, restaurant gift certificates, theater or
sports tickets, etc. must be used within the time limits or expiration dates as specified
by the donor. The buyer understands that some auction items have limitations and/
or specifications and/or conditions that may affect their value or use. It is the buyer’s
responsibility to arrange for use of the purchased item within and according to such
conditions as specified by the donor.
9. There will be a minimum bid for all items as noted. There will be no bid accepted
in the Silent Auction that is below the established minimum bid indicated on the item
description.
10. All bids for the Silent Auction will be accepted in dollar increments as indicated.
11. Live Auction increments are at the discretion of the Auctioneer.
12. The Silent and Live Auction items are sold by the committee, not by the donor,
and proceeds benefit the Academy of the Holy Angels.
13. All Auction bidding is binding and all sales are final. Payment may be made by
cash, check (payable to the Academy of the Holy Angels), American Express, Visa,
or MasterCard. There are no refunds.
14. All donations and purchases are tax deductible to the fullest extent permitted by
law.

Annie always loved science, but Holy Angels became the catalyst for her
passion in Chemistry. A member of the Science National Honor Society,
Annie volunteers in AHA’s peer tutoring program and spends many early
mornings in the Chemistry Lab helping other students prepare for classes
and tests. In addition to a heavy course load that includes four AP classes,
she still makes time to play her cello. She shares her gift of music as
Principal Cellist in the AHA Orchestra and as
a member of Sister Act, a string quartet that
performs at nursing homes in the area.
Annie aspires to earn a PhD in Chemistry
and become both a professor and researcher,
so she can teach while still pursuing new
horizons in the field. Bring your energy
to AHA and spark a reaction!
