Bundle Up – It`s Cold Out There!
November 2015 Volume 6, Issue 3 DDC News Dayton Dance Conservatory (937) 236-6011 www.daytondanceconservatory.com Temperatures are Dropping! Yes, November really *is* here already – time to start thinking about Thanksgiving, toasty fires, and cold weather. With the weather getting chilly, we all must be mindful of road conditions, in case of inclement weather. Dayton Dance Conservatory wants to be sure that our families are only traveling to and from dance classes if it is safe to do so; with this in mind, we will do our best to keep a close eye on road conditions and cancel classes if it appears that the roads pose a risk to drivers. If we cancel classes due to poor weather conditions, we will post a message on our website (www.DaytonDanceConservatory.com), and on our answering machine. Also, be sure to check the school closing list on WHIO-TV. Please keep the phone number to the studio close at hand (236-6011), and feel free to call and check the status of your class an hour before your class begins. If classes are canceled due to weather, we will offer a make-up class for your student. Inside this issue Bundle Up – It’s Cold Out There! Cold Weather 1 Updates & Reminders 2 for dancers to dress warmly when they leave the studio after an evening of classes. DDCE 3 Did you know that going outside in frosty temperatures, while still hot and sweaty Mini Dugout Dancers 4 Student’s Corner 5 Passionately Pink 6 Calendar 6 Dancing can really work up a sweat – and, in cold weather, that makes it important from class, can increase the chance for muscle damage if a dancer doesn’t bundle up properly? Ensure that your child knows that he/she need to dress appropriately for the weather. Also, ALL students should wait inside the building until they see their ride. We ask that, for their safety, dancers do not stand outside of the building while waiting for someone to pick them up. Thank you for your cooperation – these guidelines are in place because we only want the absolute best for our dancers. Dayton Dance Conservatory November 2015 Page 1 Costume & Tights Deposit Please remember that the costume and tights deposits of $30.00 per class were due on November 2nd. If you haven’t made your payment, please do so as soon as possible. The remaining balance of the costumes will be due on December 12th. If tuition is not up-to-date, and costumes are not paid in full, a costume cannot be ordered for your dancer. Also, there will be a late-charge of $10.00 per costume for any costumes paid for after December 12th. Also, costumes that are paid for late cannot be guaranteed to be received in time for recital. While I dance, I cannot judge, I cannot hate, I cannot separate myself from life. I can only be joyful and whole; this is why I dance. ~Hans Bos The truest expression of a people is in its dance and in its music. Bodies never lie. ~ Agnes de Mille Costume Fundraiser Thank you to everyone who participated in the costume fundraiser this year! All orders will be ready to be picked up, at the studio, on Saturday, November 21st, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Please be prompt, as the products need to be refrigerated, and we have no place to store them. Parent Observation Week Parent Observation Week is coming up, December 7th – 12th. This is such an exciting time for the students to show you just how hard they have been working, and how much progress has been made since September! Our teachers and students are proud of all of the effort they have put into their classes, and they enjoy sharing this with the families. This also the week that recital costumes will be shown to the students and their parents. You are welcome to take pictures and record your dancer. Because studio space is limited, we ask that each dancer only invite two family members to come and watch each of their classes. We look forward to seeing you in class! Dayton Dance Conservatory November 2015 Page 2 Dayton Dance Conservatory Ensemble On the chilly morning of October 18th, our DDCE families came together to raise money for the Ensemble, and for the Wounded Warrior Project, with the “Pirouettes & Vets 5k.” A fun time was had by all, and it was a fantastic way to raise money for 2 non-profits – talk about teamwork! Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen, and to everyone who braved the cold to run in the race! (And, thank you to Nikki Miller, for all of the beautiful photos of the race and picnic!) Later that same afternoon DDCE dancers, and their parents, got together for the annual DDCE Picnic. Everyone ate yummy food, played hilarious games (have you ever seen a skeleton whose head is on its pelvis?), and had the best time with all of their friends. We love kicking off the DDCE competition season with such an incredibly fun way for the dancers to get to know each other, and to bond as a team! Thank you to everyone joined in – we can’t wait to see you all on the stage this season! Dayton Dance Conservatory November 2015 Page 3 Mini Dugout Dancers Audition for the 2016 Mini Dugout Dancers!
