12 WHAT IS RAY-CAM CO -OPERATIVE CENTRE? It’s a neighborhood centre for old and young It’s a place for recreation and social activities, where new skills can be learned It provides personal and family support services It has an out of school, pre-school and day-care for children It’s a place where friends meet It has a gym, hobby, and club rooms It provides a drop-in lounge and free phone. What are its purposes and objectives? To operate programs which effectively advance the opportunities and abilities of children and youth in the community. To promote a spirit neighborliness and mutual assistance through direct involvement in the community We invite the participation of people with special needs. If you require assistance, please contact Kate at 604-257-6949 REGISTRATION, FEES & MEMBERSHIP Most recreation programs at the centre are free to residents of Strathcona and Downtown Eastside neighborhoods. Some programs may require a small fee. Registration and consent forms are required for all children and youth programs. Membership in the Community Association is free for residents of Strathcona and the Downtown Eastside. You must be a member of the Community Association to register for programs, and check out equipment, use the weightroom & darkroom facilities . Membership in the Cooperative Association is $2 for 2 shares and entitles members to vote at the Annual General Meeting and to run for the Board of Directors. Collect your Summer Passports at Capozzi Park (Sports Court) and start collecting points! Each Program Leader will stamp their weekly programs every time you attend. The more stamps you have, the more prizes you can win! Parents and children will have individual passports which will be kept with Program Leaders. There will be a prize at the end of the summer for the family with the most points! Win various passes, art supplies, toys, movie tickets, sports equipment, cosmetics, and more! Crime prevention: The crime prevention officer for the Strathcona Downtown Eastside is available to address community concerns and provide information on ways to reduce crime. Children under 12 are not allowed at the centre after 8pm unless they are registered in a program or with a parent/guardian. Membership is available to all those in our catchment area and is free. Daycare Our daycare provides an early learning program for children ages 21/2 to 6 years old. Our daycare program is based on an inclusive model which means that children who require extra supports are included in all our activities. Parents are encouraged to become involved and to join us for special events. Hours: Monday to Friday 7:30am-5:45pm Our fee is $750 per month. Subsides are available for those who qualify. Contact your financial aid worker for details. Call 604-257-6937 for available spaces. It is highly recommended that children under 8 years of age are not left in the centre alone and be supervised by a parent/guardian. Be advised that not all drop-in areas such as games room, gym and computer lab are supervised by staff. Latchkey the Out of School Care Program Latchkey is a fun-filled after school care program for children aged 5 to 12 years. The program offers a safe environment and creative staff for children during after school hours. The program is divided into two groups: Munchkins for children ages 5 to 8, and Pre-teen for children ages 9 to 12. A variety of nutritious snacks are provided daily. Monday to Friday 2:00-6:00 pm Latchkey will be open full days (9am to 6pm) on School Professional Days, CLOSED statutory holidays. Our fee is $250.00 per month.
