GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM (GDS)
WHAT IS A GDS?
The Global Distribution System is an online booking system that acts as an intermediary
between buyers (travel agencies in particular) and providers (hotels, airlines, car rental
companies, etc.) in the tourism and business travel market.
It books a resource or a service for a person or a group in real time .
In our markets, the used GDS are:

• Access to the complete national and international SNCF offer in real time. Also facility to
book domestic journeys in Europe ;
• conditional access to RIT rates;

the availability screen;
• group bookings from 10 to 24 pax. Possible up to 60 pax, with accreditation. Over 60 pax,
the request is processed by the Groups cell ;

TRAVEL CONFIRMATION
When the customer buys an electronic ticket (aka TOD) from a travel agency, the latter emails or
hands him a TRAVEL CONFIRMATION that enables the customer to collect his ticket.
THIS confirmation is NOT A VALID TRAVEL TICKET.
It contains useful information about the collection of the ticket from a Self Service Terminal or an
Express Pro Terminal for departure the same day.

WHAT IS A SELF BOOKING TOOL (SBT)?
WHAT IS A SBT?
Self Booking Tools are computer solutions implemented by software editors for companies that
enable online booking of services proposed by :
airlines
rail operators
car rental companies
other providers (hotels, etc.)
The Self Booking Tools enable companies to
manage their travel policy and bookings in real
time. Accessible online, these tools are usually
parametered by solution editors. They ensure
the synchronisation of the profiles, consider the
various customers, existing loyalty cards etc.
The Self Booking Tools are increasingly in
demand by companies and are very user-friendly
for simple journeys (domestic/European flights from point to point, for example).
The intervention of the agency is still required for multiple segment-journeys.

SNCF has signed agreements with all the Self Booking Tools that enable companies to access
the SNCF inventory and to book online. The travel agency of the enterprise will then issue the
tickets through its GDS channel.

ACCESS TO RESARAIL
1. The company that has a Self Booking Tool, requests access from RésaRail or its travel agent.
2. The travel agency contacts Voyages-sncf for the creation of a PCC SBT.
3. SNCF deals with the creation of the PCC SBT, directly with the Self Booking Tool.
BOOKING STEPS
1. The company books its journey online, 24/7 ; the tool is simple, fast and ergonomic.
2. The booking is sent to the travel agent who issues the file.
3. Invoicing is linked to the accounting system of the company and is done automatically.
