CENTRAL SAINT MARTINS BA Jewellery DESIGN 2014 B A J e w eller y D E S I G N D egree S h o w 1 7 t h – 2 2 nd J u n e 2 0 1 4 Central Saint Martins University of the Arts London Granary Building 1 Granary Square London N1C 4AA csm.arts.ac.uk csmbajewellery.wordpress.com INTRODUCTION We have forty four students graduating from BA (Hons) Jewellery Design this year and each has researched, tested and developed their own interpretation of the subject of jewellery. The final year is an exciting and demanding year which involves exercising the imagination, committing to an idea, developing thoughts into materials, risk taking, persistence when things go wrong and keen observational and evaluative skills. The course aims to support students in finding a creative identity in this way and also to provide them with opportunities to present and communicate their ideas and approach to high-level professionals from outside the university. These collaborations take the form of live projects, scholarships, awards, studio visits and reviews of work and allow students invaluable experience and an understanding of current standards and expectations. Throughout three years of study, students work with an impressive list of external partners. We are very proud to work with such eminent companies and institutions and I would like to take the opportunity to thank our current partners – Annoushka, ASIC, Auerbach and Steele, Avakian, Solange AzaguryPartridge, Boodles, Cartier, Chow Tai Fook, Freedom for Topshop, Margarita Wood, Swarovski, Theo Fennell, The Worshipful Company Of Tin Plate Workers Alias Wire Workers of The City of London, The Worshipful Company of Leathersellers, V&A, Winterson and Zeebags, Zimbabwe – for their highly valued contribution to the course. On behalf of all the staff, I warmly congratulate this year’s graduates and wish them all the very best in their future careers. An object might have different meanings or appearances by different people. My jewellery could be tools for the realisation of ‘normal sight’. junko.uiaa@gmail.com E l izab e t h L E E Q ing L E I Photo: Sam Sissen www.elizabethleelondon.com One inspiration for my collection is a famous diamond called The Hope or The French Blue, which was stolen in 1792. How to ‘fit into’ physical disability and psychological distortions, how to overcome them and make them ‘fit’ you.
