The area is also rich with recreational activities and other diversions, from the artistic to the adventurous. Indeed, the Cape has been named as one of the top ten spots in the world for whale watching, paddleboarding, kayaking and windsurfing, and the region is also ranked among the ten most popular destinations in the U.S. for beaches and golfing. Our beaches are consistently ranked among the best in the world. We have a world-class bike trail and many rental locations for groups. The Cape and Islands also have been named one of the top 25 arts destinations in the country for its wealth of galleries, art studios and museums. Local theaters stage productions year-round and the Cape even boasts its own symphony orchestra. Experienced local tour operators, charter companies and transportation services can assist you in planning all kinds of recreational opportunities for your group – from shopping trips, eco-tours, museum outings, narrated walks and guided birdwatching to water sports and maritime pursuits, including harbor cruises, whale and seal-watching, sea kayaking and deep sea fishing. Bicycle enthusiasts can join a guide or set out on their own to roam miles of paved trails and country roads that wind past historic lighthouses, working cranberry bogs and weathered shingled cottages abloom with colorful gardens. Hire a limo for a romantic drive along the Old King’s Highway, the nation’s largest historic district, lined with ancient stone walls, centuries-old sea captain’s mansions, sweeping coastal vistas and dozens of quaint antiques and craft shops. Creative excursions also offer unique special event opportunities for groups of 10 to 200. Charter a boat to exchange vows at sunset on an offshore island. Serve hors d’oeuvres along with a good measure of awe on a seal-watching cruise off Chatham. Dress up for a gourmet dinner while riding the rails along Cape Cod Bay. Board a caravan of jeeps for a picnic supper tour into the wilds of the Provincetown dunes. With Cape Cod’s selection of award-winning golf courses, it’s nearly impossible to stay off the green! There are few areas in the world that can rival Cape Cod when it comes to quality golf. With more than 50 courses between Plymouth and Provincetown and a mild climate encouraging 12 months of play, the Cape has been named one of the top ten golf destinations in the northeastern United States. 29 ACTIVITIES AND TOURS ACTIVITIES AND TOURS Cape & Islands Golf Courses (P) - indicates public golf course (SP) - indicates semi-public golf course. Two major airports are within a short drive – Logan Airport in Boston is 56 miles from the Sagamore Bridge and T.F. Green Airport in Providence, Rhode Island is 66 miles. In addition, several carriers, including Cape Air and JetBlue offer year-round or seasonal schedules of direct flights between major northeast cities—including Boston, Providence, New Bedford, and New York – to Cape Cod’s new $40 million Barnstable Municipal Airport, Provincetown, and the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. A full complement of ground transportation services, including taxis, car rental companies and buses, are available at each local airport. The CapeFLYER offers full service rail connection including bar, snacks, and wifi, on weekends in the summer between Hyannis and Boston. Another quick – and especially scenic – way to arrive at the Cape is by water. High-speed ferry service is offered from Boston to Provincetown and between Cape Cod and the Islands. In addition, numerous full-service marinas provide slip space and moorings for private and corporate yachts. By car, the approach is marked by two arched bridges spanning the man-made Cape Cod Canal. It is approximately 70 miles/112km from the Canal to Provincetown, at the tip of Cape Cod. Three main roads run parallel along the Cape from west to east. The quickest route is down the middle along Route 6, the Mid-Cape Highway, which begins at the Sagamore Bridge. On the south, Route 28 follows a commercial route from Woods Hole and Falmouth along Nantucket Sound. Route 6A meanders on a northerly route along Cape Cod Bay past historic homes, antique shops and scenic vistas. All three of these roads merge at the Orleans Rotary and become Route 6 which travels north to Provincetown. Once here, your group can take a deep breath of salt air and relax; there are plenty of options for getting around. Several villages have seasonal shuttle circuits connecting shopping districts, beaches and tourist attractions. Taxis are generally available at local airports, bus stations, ferry docks and town centers, and fares are reasonable, especially compared to those in urban centers. A variety of full service limousine companies are available for airport and ferry transfers, as well as distinctive wedding transportation, personalized sightseeing tours, and group outings. Private tour bus operators also offer group and individual trips to most popular local destinations. 31 32 TRANSPORTATION TRANSPORTATION +RXUO\6HUYLFH &DSH&RG'RZQWRZQ%RVWRQ/RJDQ$LUSRUW $YRLGWKHKDVVOHVRIGULYLQJDQGWUDŋ F 5HOD[ZLWKHDVHDQGFRPIRUW ZZZSEFRP 508-746-0378 Established in 1888 33 Getting Here CAPE COD By Plane: Cape Air (800-227-3247, capeair.com) services Hyannis and Provincetown from Boston’s Logan Airport year-round.
