We have top rated restaurants; quality homes at affordable prices; a diverse and vibrant elementary school; and several churches with active outreach programs. Gavrilis Chief Executive Officer Quality of Life… · We are pleased to announce a motion camera installed by the City on Quail Street has significantly deterred illegal dumping. · Thru the Greektown CDC’s effort and with help from our residents, the City’s Code Enforcement Unit issued 357 citations for 2012. · The Greektown CDC encourages homeowners to call 911 immediately when witnessing a crime and 311 for non emergency calls (trash, rats, illegal dumping, etc.). · On April, 25, 2013 the Mayor’s Spring Clean Up brought together many residents who cleaned up our community. We thank those who participated. Gloria Hertzfelt Playground was dedicated to longstanding Greektown advocate Ms. Gloria. The playground is located on Gough and Lehigh Street. The Greektown CDC Back to School event was held for children in our community. We were able to supply 35 children with back packs and other school supplies to begin their school year. An event made possible by a grant from the Baltimore Municipal Employees Credit Union and the Baltimore Office of Promotion of the Arts. Special Events... The Annual Greek Independence Day Parade is a true highlight for Greektown and helps us preserve and promote our neighborhood. Pictured is Col. John E. The event promotes our Greek culture and our community’s assets. Pictured are dancers in traditional dress. Page 2 June 2013 Housing... Kettler " O'Donnell Square" homes had their grand opening in May 2012. The development has been a great addition to our neighborhood, adding beautiful new homes and homeowners to the community. This economic boost to our community is why we have been recognized as one of the City's most resilient community's during these tough economic times. On April 25, 2013 we hosted a Live Near Your Work tour for Johns Hopkins employees which highlights some newly renovated homes in our community. We created a Landlord Reality program which provides information such as eviction process, sample leases, sanitation requirements, etc. Call our office for a free packet. Human Development... Business Development... New resource TrainBaltimore.org is available. It's mission is to increase job skills and opportunities of low-skill, low income workers and job seekers. Our Greektown Business Alliance is seeking to identify businesses in our community to participate. Please call our office for more information. Greektown youth enjoyed a free Orioles game sponsored by Greektown CDC and other businesses in partnership with Buddies Night. The following Greektown businesses were selected as the Baltimore Guide's Readers' Favorite Places to visit: Samos for best restaurant and best Greek Salad; and Joyce at Samos for best Greektown Waitress. O'Conner's Bar for best Greektown Bar. Just A Reminder... Be sure to mark your calendars! National Night Out is scheduled for August 6, 2013 at 7pm, on Bank and Lehigh Street. This is a good opportunity to meet our police officers and show solidarity as we take a stand against crime. Food and beverages will be served. More info to follow.
