On October 10, our safety patrols received their belts and badges as they were sworn in for duty by Mrs. Connie Platon, Dean of Students. These faithful safety patrols have committed to keeping our parking lot and walkways safe for our parents and students. Under the watchful eye of an adult overseer, they help guide vehicles during the hustle and bustle of morning dropoff. Thank you, safety patrols, for serving our school! We appreciate you! 2K GOES TO THE CIRCUS! Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls! On October 11, our adorable 2K-ers got to spend their morning at the “circus.” This fun-filled on campus field trip included face painting, posing for silly pictures, and munching on popcorn while watching Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted. Red Ribbon Week October 21 – 25 During the week of October 2125, our students got to participate in Red Ribbon Week, an event that raises drug awareness. Each day had a specific dress-up theme – to the left, first grader Sarah Gonzalez socked it to drugs while wearing her crazy, colorful socks. To the right, 5th graders are not afraid to let everyone know, “We are Proud to be DRUG FREE! Congratulations to all of our FACCS Regional Spelling Bee Participants and Winners! The purpose of this week-long event is to teach children to enjoy reading by example. When they see someone they admire reading, it will encourage them to read for enjoyment as well. Throughout the week, DCS Seniors will read to students in grades 5K-2nd grade, and 5th and 6th graders will read to our lower elementary students. A love for reading is a wonderful quality, and our goal is to influence as many students as possible. Takes place every Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the auditorium. Hundreds of students from various schools around the greater Miami area and the Keys will be performing their selections. This is the first time in recent years that DCS has received such an honor, and we are excited to host this fantastic event that will feature some of the top music students from around South Florida. Over the last few years, DCS students have consistently received superior and excellent ratings (the two highest ratings possible) for their excellent work and performances at the FBA Solo and Ensemble Music Festival.
