2016-17 BCA Registration Package FINAL MAY
Welcome to the BEACH! This is the first step in joining our BCA family for the 2016-2017
competitive season. All of the information for Team Placements, Yearly Investment, Practice
Schedules, Summer Training, & even our Season 4 Competition Schedule
is included!
We are excited to offer even more teams in Season 4, increasing our
options to help meet the needs of all our athletes in our growing BEACH
family. We are also pleased to expand our All-Star Prep program (the
perfect introduction to competitive cheerleading) and introduce our
Open program - meeting the needs for cheerleaders of all ages.
As always, at BCA we focus on fun, teamwork, & skills development in a positive
environment. All of our coaches are passionate about cheer & fostering the love of our
sport in our athletes. We do this all while pushing them to be their very best, with the focus
not just on winning in sport but developing life skills that will be beneficial to them long
after they have hung up their uniform for the final time.
Fundamentally, cheer is a team sport & we believe that exposure to team building at an
early age helps to foster a strong feeling of self-esteem & confidence both individually and
in a group setting. Your athlete will develop a sense of belonging in cheer, second to no
other sport in developing trust & confidence in your teammates. There is something special
about being part of a team, working together to achieve a common goal. Teamwork is the
cornerstone of our program, making connections & memories to last a lifetime while doing
something you love. Tell me... what could be better?
Welcome to the BCA family, there is always room for at the BEACH for you!
2
Team Placements for the 2016-17 season have
been completed. If you missed them, there is
still time to join a team this season! At this
point, we will schedule an assessment for your
athlete to determine the best fit team for their
age and level.
During an assessment at BCA, athletes showcase their current skills in a low pressure
environment. This is not a tryout, everyone will make a team. We asses each child to decide
how to best build the teams & ensure the right fit for all of our athletes.
What should you expect at an assessment?
Your athlete should expect to have FUN, to showcase the skills
the already have, & make new friends! Again, this is a low
pressure environment, more focused on what they CAN do, as
opposed to what they cannot.
What should you wear to an assessment?
Your athlete should come dressed & ready to work out! For us, that
means a T-shirt or tank top, shorts, clean sneakers, hair up, & no jewelry.
What kind of tumbling skills are needed for each level team?
Athletes will be placed on a team based on their current mastered
tumbling skills, not based on what they are working towards.
Athletes who are new to tumbling will be placed either in the Prep stream
or on a Level 1 team.
At BCA, we do have a team for everyone, and we pride ourselves on placing athletes on
teams that are the best fit for their skills. Being on the team where your skills are the best
fit ensures the most positive experience possible.

to develop our teams and place athletes appropriately.

PAYMENT POLICY
We are pleased to accept online payment & registration for all
teams, classes & camps! We require all athletes to have an
account created within our online registration system. Payments
will be collected online or by postdated cheque only. Child
Fitness Receipts will be sent by request for each athlete for the
tuition portion of the yearly commitment.
Accounts must be in good standing to continue in the program.
Failure to make payment may result in your athlete being asked
to “sit” during practice or be removed from their team.
For athlete’s whose parents are splitting payments, please contact us directly to arrange a
mutually beneficial payment schedule.
We want you to be 100% happy with your choice of BCA and we
do offer a comprehensive refund policy. The first two practices
after registration are considered a trial, if you chose to withdraw
your athlete, a full refund will be issued within this timeframe.
After the first two, refunds will be made on tuition only. Tuition
will be refunded as per the pro-rated amount for the month
following cancellation. For example, if you give notice of
cancellation on October 5, your cancellation will begin November
1. Practice clothing, uniform, competition, & membership fees will
not be refunded.
BCA will continue to offer a sibling discount. Tuition fees will be
discounted at 10% for the second & subsequent siblings enrolled
with BCA. All other costs will be the same as per the first athlete.
Some athletes want even more time in the gym! The more time
in the gym, the more
progress the athlete will
see throughout the season. Crossover fees for the
2016-17 season will be an additional $40/month +
HST for the season. This will include team mom &
choreography fees for the second team.
Additionally, competition fees for the second will be
added to your yearly commitment.
7
COMMITMENT & ATTENDANCE
Cheerleading is a commitment, this is a team sport where attendance is imperative to the
positive experience of all athletes on the team. We realize
that the commitment lies with not just the athletes, but the
family as well. Please read the following carefully as it is
integral in understanding to your commitment to BCA.
At BCA, we want the best possible experience for all
athletes. A huge part of this means having as many team
members in the gym as possible at every practice. When
you commit to signing your athlete up to be a member of a
competitive team, you not only make a financial
commitment, you make one of your athlete’s time as well.
We expect all athletes to be in attendance as often as possible.
Failure to attend practice during competition season
(for any reason) may result in changes to the
athlete's role in the routine. This should not be
considered a punishment, this a natural
consequence to not being present in the gym at that
time. In order to service all athletes, provide a safe
environment, & uphold a high standard of care, we
have to be up to date on what we know works for
the team, in the safest possible scenario.
We
respect all the athletes' commitment to the team
equally, your athlete missing their team practice
affects every member on the team. For our purposes, there is no valid reason for missing
practice during competition season (birthday party, grandmother’s house, etc..). We expect
all athletes to respect the investment of time of their teammates and their families.
Please read below for our Commitment & Attendance Policy. The attendance policy is to
ensure that each athlete has the best experience possible. During Summer Training we
acknowledge that there may be more absences than usual. Please do your best to attend
as much as possible during Summer Training. As soon as September arrives &
choreography is complete, this will be considered competition season.
Practice is MANDATORY in competition season.
If your athlete is sick (not vomiting) or injured they are still expected to attend practice.
8
During competition season (September-May)
your athlete may have a total of THREE (3)
unexcused absences before a meeting will be
called to discuss further participation on their
team. Unexcused absences include, but are not
limited to, family vacations, weddings, birthday
parties (family & friends), concerts, attending
sibling games/concerts, & studying for
tests/exams/schoolwork that they have not yet
completed.
Of course, we believe school is of utmost importance, & in keeping
with that, learning to manage ones’ time wisely is one of the many
benefits of being in a competitive program at a young age. Time
management is a life skill that will serve your athlete well as they
move forward in their schooling & forward through life. Part of
being on a team is learning to respect all members of that team,
your athlete’s good attendance at practice translates to respect for
their teammates, their coaches, and your own investment in your
athlete. Again, birthday parties & other social functions are considered unexcused. When
your athlete makes a commitment to their team, you essentially cross off their calendar
during those times & days your athlete is committed to practice.
In addition, please be mindful when planning family vacations. We try to follow the school
calendar as much as possible to allow for families to have time off to spend together. We
realize that you cannot plan your entire life around cheer (as much as we wouldn’t mind)
but we do give you as much information as we can and also release competition dates early
for a reason. An abundance of extra vacation time will be considered unexcused and your
athlete’s role in the routine may be minimized. Please plan for your athlete to be in
attendance for the full two weeks before a competition. If you have any questions during
the season about these dates, please do not hesitate to ask a coach, they would be glad to
assist you.
All absences must be reported to a coach (preferably via email) BEFORE
practice. We plan out practices to optimize gym time for all athletes &
proper warning creates much less disruption for all other members of
the team. We appreciate advance notice for all absences due to vacation
as they are obviously booked ahead of time and can be reported directly.
Further to this, missing a practice within four (4) of competition will be
reviewed directly with your coach &/or the program director. This will
be considered a "blackout" time where all absences (illness included) will
be considered unexcused.
Again, in the interest of all of the athletes on the team, we expect you to honour the
commitment to BCA & respect the other families’ commitments as well.
9
SUMMER TRAINING
After placements, your athlete will be put on the team that has the best "fit" with
Their skills, experience, & other members of the team. Summer training will begin directly
after placements; it is important to maintain a fairly
consistent practice schedule over the summer months.
We understand that summer brings vacation time and
other activities, but the general rule is, if you are in the
city, we would like to see your athlete in the gym.
Building skills take time & practice with all team
members to master, tumbling skills must be trained continuously in order to maintain your
skill level, & most importantly in our demanding sport, conditioning must be incorporated
in order to protect bodies from injury while building strength, endurance, & flexibility.
In addition, we do work with the athletes that we have in the gym, we do not
“save” spots or spaces for certain athletes. Low attendance during Team
Practice may affect your athlete’s role in the routine during the season.
We were very happy with our training schedule from last summer and will be
incorporating it again in our summer training!
During June, July, & August we will be in Summer Training mode. Each team
will have a mandatory Team Practice during the week. This practice will
consist mostly of building skills, i.e. working on the stunts & technique we will use in our
competitive routines for the season. This will be a very important part of developing the
content for our routines.
Also during Summer Training, we will be offering levelled tumbling
classes that are included in your all-star registration fees (exception –
Summer Training is not included in all-star prep registration). On
weekdays from 5:30-9:30 athletes can join a tumble
class in their level. This will be a great way to build
a base conditioning level for the competitive
season. Tumbling is a very important part of the
sport of cheerleading, it is one of the most time
consuming and individual aspects as well. The consistent training your
athlete will receive during the summer months will ensure they are
ready for the season ahead! The more focus your athlete puts into
their tumbling training, the more benefit they will receive. We will also
have private tumbling times available as well as the opportunity to
register for an extra tumbling class if you so wish.
10
Summer training is where athletes truly have time to develop their tumbling skills before
choreography & competition season becomes the focus. By including a tumbling class
over the summer, it is our hope is that we will see even greater strides in the skill level of
our athletes for Season 4!
Summer tumbling sign up will be available after placements when we discern the need for
each level. Tumbling nights are not mandatory but please be advised that it will be the
ONLY tumbling instruction (Level 1-4) they will receive during the Summer Training, as
mentioned, team practices will be limited to building skills and jump training. Prep teams
WILL incorporate some tumbling training into their summer team practcies.

FAQS
What is the best way to contact BCA?
Please email us at info@beachcheerathletics.com or call 416-951-8352.
We will endeavour to answer all your questions as quickly as possible.
When my athlete is placed on a competitive team, does that mean
they should attend all practices?
YES! Cheerleading is a team sport. It is imperative that your family
endeavour to have your athlete in the gym whenever possible. We do
understand that there may be times when this is not possible, please see our commitment
& attendance policy for more information. We expect a time commitment from your
athlete upon registration.
My athlete is new to cheer, will they be placed on a competitive team?
YES! At BCA we have a competitive team for every age & skill level.
We will do our best to place your athlete where they will have the most
fun, be pushed to improve, & let their skills shine!
No experience is necessary. Placements are a great way to give cheer
a chance, see the gym, make new friends, & meet the coaching staff!
What if our athlete wants to cheer but weekend practices don’t work for our family?
This season we will again have competitive teams (prep only) in our schedule that practice
on weekdays only. Although there will be 4 competitions during the season that occur on
weekend, there will be no other weekend commitment! Feel free to cottage away!
For another option, we will have a precompetitive team that practices once a week. This is
a great option for the athlete who wants a taste of the cheer experience but not the time
or financial commitment. Precompetitive teams run half year, Sept-Dec & Jan – May.
My athlete is Level 1 (or 2, 3) this year, will they automatically “move up” a level this
season?
The short answer is no, not necessarily. Cheerleading is not a sport where you cannot
expect to move up through the levels each season. Here’s why:
17
Firstly, there are only a total of six levels in cheerleading, with many skills associated in
being considered a skilled athlete in each one. Is it improbable to
conceive that every athlete would achieve the skills required, as well as
have enough athletes doing the same to constitute a team.
Secondly, there are many factors that affect the placement of your
athlete on the team, exceling in one area may not solely secure their
role on a team levelled higher than their current one. As discussed, we
take an overview of all the athletes that make up a team & attempt to
come up with the best mix. Our focus is always fun, team building, &
developing self-esteem, we consider this first over every other factor.
Success at BCA is built first on feeling success in the team & oneself,
not necessarily being on the highest level team &/or winning
competitions.
I want my athlete to be with their BFF, is that possible?
Possibly. Enjoying the cheerleading experience is the most
important goal of being part of the BEACH family. If we believe
that the athletes fit within the same age group & level, we will
do our best to accommodate friend requests. However, if the
athletes are mismatched in skill level, we may instead offer one
athlete to “play down” a level. We cannot accommodate a
request that moves an athlete “up” a level that they are not
ready for. This is a safety issue & is not in the best interest in
the team or the individual athlete.
I have two athletes interested in cheering with BCA. Can they be placed in the same
team? This would make my life easier!
We hear you! Getting kids to their extracurricular activities is a job in itself! We will our best
to accommodate family requests if it is at an appropriate age/level for both/all athletes,
however, ultimately, BCA will have the final decision on placements. It is in the best interest
of the athletes that they are kept in the appropriate age/level in order to maximize
enjoyment & benefit from the program.
We do have very active & engaged Team Parents who coordinate carpools! We will help
this process out wherever possible & get your athlete to the gym.
