Towanda’s Annual 4th of July Celebration and Parade 4th of July Committee Towanda Village Board Organizations and Businesses sponsored by: May 26, 2015 An Invitation to Participate in Towanda’s 4th of July “Then and Now ~ Past and Present” is the parade theme for the Forty-Seventh Annual Towanda 4th of July Celebration. The two-day festivities include a 4:30-7:00 spaghetti supper and community dance from 8-11 on Friday, July 3. The activities on Saturday, July 4, include a 10:00 parade., flea market and food all day and spectacular fireworks at dusk. We invite you to participate in our parade this year: Saturday, July 4, 2015 Towanda Elementary School grounds Check in (at the registration table in front of the school) and line up ~ 8:45-9:30 am Parade steps off promptly at 10:00 am Those who wish to hand out items ... such as candy, flyers, etc. ... should plan to walk along the edge of the parade route to distribute them ... the safety of children is our major concern! Accompanying vehicles need to keep pace with the other entries and not slow the parade or allow gaps between units. Please be aware that the route is about a mile long and is hilly in places. Speed check in ... Please help us plan for adequate staging space and respond by June 26 ~ include the general size/length of your unit and number of participants. This will also allow you to speed your check-in process the morning of the parade. Those units registering in advance will be assigned a parade space and receive a small flag. Those who do not pre-register may be lined up at the end of the parade. Entering a Float or Other Special Unit? ... to be judged for the Grand Marshal award, the unit MUST be preregistered and lined up in front of the school and ready for judging by 9:30 am. The Grand Marshal award will be presented to the float, or other special unit that is judged to best demonstrate the theme of the parade – “Then and Now ~ Past and Present”. Cost? ... Participation in the parade is free; however, costs continue to increase and donations toward the expense of the Celebration will be gratefully accepted. We would like to continue our ‘no fee’ event! Weather? ... Unless there is lightning or very strong winds, the parade will go on (even in the rain). Cancellation will be announced on WJBC and via Facebook as soon as determined. Questions? ...
