There is a slight modification that needs to be done to the retractors before the Sharkbar can be installed. Remove the lap belt anchor bolt in the rocker panel both left and right side. Use T50 Torx. Note: Removing the seats will make the installation much easier and is recommended. Instruction are identical for the right and left Sail Panel Brackets (SPB) installation. Modification to the seat belt retractors. The retractor anchor tab will need to be bent up and out so the Sharkbar sail panel bracket (SPB) will fit between the sail panel anchor and the retractor. The picture shows the amount the retractor-anchoring tab will need to be bent. A screwdriver and some pliers work well. If the retractor-anchoring tab isn’t bent out enough the sail panel bracket will not fit down far enough to align with the sail panel anchor hole. Note: If you decide not to reinstall the retractors, than use the supplied ½ washers when installing the sail panel anchor bolts. Some late model C3 Vettes have excessive mud that might need to removed to allow enough room for the sail panel bracket (SPB) to fit into position. Before installing the SPB, you will need to hang the belt retractors onto the SPB. Next align the SPB assembly in place over the sail panel anchor. While holding the SPB assembly in place install the 12 mm factory bolt and tighten snug enough so the SPB will not detach from the retractor. Note: Make sure the tab anchor is positioned through both the SPB & sail panel tab hole. Attach the retractor/sail panel bracket onto the sail panel using the OEM bolt. Tighten the sail panel retractor bolt to 30 Ft LBS. Tools: Use T50 Torx Place Strut footing Bracket over outboard lap belt anchor. Install the Button head Allen bolt through the OEM lap belt anchor, aftermarket lap belt angled bolt-in plate and the Strut footing bracket (SFB) and tighten to 30 Ft LBS. Note: Do not install the Strut footing bracket over the carpet. This anchor bracket must fit flush against the floor pan. . Strut installation Slid the ball joint on to the Strut footing Bracket stud and screw on the 7/16” jam nut. Rotate the strut CCW so the strut lengthens upward to fit up to the Sail Panel Bracket. Connect the Sail Panel Bracket to the Strut with a 7/16” hex bolt. Tighten all bolt/Nuts. Bring the bar forward above the SPB bar mounting holes and drop down the bar brackets. Align the bar bracket holes with the SPB bar mounting holes. Install the Allen bolts in the bar bracket holes closest to the bar first (inside Allen bolt). Note: Make sure the belt loops are facing up. Install the inside right Allen bolt and then the inside Allen on the left side. Do the same for the outside Allen bolts. Torque the Allen bolts to 30 Ft LBS. Note: Shoulder belt retractor is missing for better visibility. Install the Aftermarket inboard lap belt bolt-in plate into the factory anchor. Tighten the 12 mm bolt. You should get lap belt bolt-in plates from the belt manufacturer Note: Follow the aftermarket belt manufacturer installation instruction Tools: 13/16” wrench or T50 Torx. Note: Passenger side Installation is identical. Sub Anchor Bar Adjust the driver seat all the way back and remove the front two bolts. Position the crotch belt anchor bracket over the front 2 seat holes. Make sure the shim in installed under the crotch bracket inside foot. Note: (Leave the eyebolt out of the bracket for now) Install the 2 new grade 8 bolts. Note: Some C3 seat frames sag over time; this will cause installation of the crotch bracket a little more difficult. Tools: 1/2” socket Copyright 2002,2003 Vetteworks LLC Sharkbar Series 2 Instructions Page 4 ‘82 Corvettes with hatchback Driver side sail panel bracket must be worked down through the rear window hatch release and into position. ‘82 Corvettes with hatchback Rotate the sail panel bracket CCW and position the bracket into place. The shoulder belt attaches to the bar through the belt loop located on the bar. The sub bar (anti-submarine) belt uses a quick disconnect clip that attach to the eye-bolt on the bracket. The buckles can be lever or cam lock type. Note: Follow the manufactures instructions when installing the belts. Vetteworks requires the driver and passenger to always wear the OEM seat belt.
