While there, I was invited to the Hong Kong Intimate Apparel Industries Association Dinner by its Chairman, Kenneth Wong. With over 500 guests in attendance, including many Americans, I was given an honored seat at the head table. During a speech by a local government representative, it was interesting to hear minimum wages and workers rights mentioned as areas of importance for HKIAIA members. I also had the pleasure of meeting Professor Xiaoming Tao of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Professor Tao is the Chair of Textile Technology and Head of the Institute of Textiles and Clothing. Another exciting event that I attended recently was the “Future of Fashion” at FIT. This year's amazing senior collection runway show featured more Intimate Apparel than any other category. Included were two students who have received scholarships from the UFC: Amy Bittner and Nathalie Quirin. Congratulations to both! Please mark your calendars and plan on attending the Program Committee's May 24 panel discussion on Social Media to be held at the St. Giles Hotel. (See details on page 5 of this newsletter.) ■ Ta b l e o f C o n t e n t s PRESIDENT’S PERSPECTIVE 1 WOW PRESENTATION 2 UNDER THE WIRE 2 STUDENT DESIGN CONTEST | KENT STATE UNIVERSITY 3 THANK YOU NOTES 4 MEMBERS ON THE MOVE 5 UPCOMING EVENTS 5 1 May 2011 WWW.UNDERFASHIONCLUB.ORG Briefly Speaking 10 THINGS YOU CAN DO TODAY TO WOW TOMORROW Frances Cole Jones, author of “The Wow Factor” and “How to Wow,” believes that every encounter provides you with an opportunity to positively influence colleagues, employers, even competitors.
