dance to Bachata, Kizomba or Salsa Romantica in
the small hall. The international Top Djs El Chino,
Shaan, Mambito and Rumbero cater for a variety
of music and awesome Latin Beats on the Salsa
parties. They are going to give the dancers hell with
the best of their musical repertoire that includes
everything from Salsa to Mambo but also coveted
classics.

This year, the first Freiburg Salsa Festival will take
place in Freiburg, the sunniest city of Germany.
The opening will be on Friday the 20th July in the
“Kultur und Bürgerhaus” in Denzlingen, a small
community that is about 12km north of Freiburg.
Here you can dance Salsa in heated atmosphere
for three days
Located in of Denzlingen and on a terrain, that
is 26.000 m² there is place for 1500 visitors who
can make merry and enjoy the unique charm of
the event and conference centre, which even
has its own lake. Most enjoyable for the heart of
every dancer will probably be the fact that there
is a large number of rooms, which can be used
as diverse dance floors and classrooms. In the
great hall live music and several styles of Salsa, for
example Mambo or Cuban Salsa, will be played.
Those who doesn’t feel like dancing to Salsa can
A special highlight is the live performance of
Mercadonegro on Friday, that is going to be the
ultimate summer salsa event. Further highlights are
the spectacular show acts and performances of the
national and international salsa stars. In addition to
artists like Anne & Anichi and Luisa & Pablo, names
like Adolfo Indochoea (NY), Marco Ferrigno (Italy),
Super Mario (UK) and Nuno & Vanda or Kwenda
Lima (Portugal) speak for themselves. But these are
just a few of many others. Several other artists will
help to shape the program with a broad range of
workshops and performances and their affection
to dance. Besides the salsa parties, the selection
of more than 50 different workshops offers the
incomparable opportunity to learn new steps and
combinations, to perfect the own dance style or
to try out another style. The workshops start on
Friday as from 5.30 pm. On Saturday and Sunday
the day starts with a Zumba warm up. Afterwards
it can be chosen from numerous courses of wellknown national and international dancers. The
offer is intended for absolute beginners as well as
for advanced students and encompasses all styles
of dance such as Salsa, Bachata and Kizomba, but
also another kind of dancing is represented: pole
dance.
5
Those who are once in these quarters and want
to have a little break between the workshops
and salsa parties, best use the time having a
sightseeing walk through Freiburg. The historic old
town with its “Bächle” and the Freiburg Minster is
always worth a visit. Here, you can stroll over the
shopping mile , the Kaiser-Joseph-Straße, have
a shopping tour or maunder through the small,
winding alleys. Those who want to make a trip
into the countryside, best pay the Seepark a visit
or enjoy the atmosphere at the Dreisam, which
flows through the centre of Freiburg. In culinary
view Freiburg has also a huge offer. It doesn’t
matter whether Indian, Moroccan, Asian or simply
plain German cuisine, there is a large selection of
restaurants and coffee houses for every taste and
every mood.
See you at the Freiburg Salsa Festival !

FREIBURG
IM BREISGAU
known as the sunniest and
warmest city of Germany
With about 224.000 inhabitants and 28
districts, it is located at the Western south
of the Black Forest and at the south-eastern
edge of the Upper Rhine Rift. France and
Switzerland are just a few miles from it.
Know as Green City it counts among the
most environmentally friendly and most
sustainable cities in the country. And as a
university city with altogether 5 colleges it
is a place of study for roughly 30.000 young
people. The Albert-Ludwigs-Universität
together with the university hospital has
about 13.000 employees and thus it is the
biggest employer of Southern Baden.
The historical old town is always worth a visit
and attracts numerous tourists and visitors
from around the world into the city centre.
We have summarized the most important
facts about Freiburg for you:
HISTORY:
The historical Freiburg was mentioned for
the first time in a document in 1008 and
included the present districts Herdern,
Zähringen and Wiehre. The market – and city
rights have existed since 1120 and about 80
years later the construction of the Freiburg
Minster began, which is one of the main
attractions of the city and which marks the
contemporary city centre. After 150 years of
reign of the Counts of Urach, the citizens of
Freiburg ransomed themselves and
subjected to the Hapsburg’s rule.
The establishment of the university
followed 1457.
The city was suffering heavily under
destruction and siege during the
Thirty Years’ War and it was captured
by the French in 1677 that resulted in
enormous structural changes. After
several changes of reigning between
France and Austria, Freiburg finally
came under the rule of Austria in 1745
and was adopted in the Grand Dutchy
of Baden by Napoleon in 1805. This
caused the development of a political
and economical centre. Because of
the enormous growth in the late 19th
century several additional districts
arose. In 1944 the city centre was
almost completely bombed,whereby
the minster miraculously was just
lightly damaged.
Since 1952 Freiburg has been seat of
the regional council.
7
City Report: Freiburg
Those who want to get more details about
the history of the city, are advised to visit
the Wentzingerhaus. It is the museum of
Freiburg’s history and is situated right to
the minster.
ARRIVAL AND TRAFFIC:
8
Due to the the perfect position in the border
triangle and the closeness to several cities
like Karlsruhe, Stuttgart and Basel, Freiburg
can be reached comfortably by car, train or
air plane. Those who choose travelling by
air plane are advised to lay the airports
Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden,
Strasbourg,
Basel, Zurich or Frankfurt. From there it is
a drive at the maximum of 2 hours by car
or by train. The train connections starting
from Freiburg are perfectly developed,
no matter whether you take an ICE to
Munich, Berlin or Hamburg or whether
you take the regional trains to explore the
various countryside and villages of the
environment. The best chance you get to
do this is if you take the Breisgau-S-Bahn
or the Höllentalbahn, especially if you
are planning a trip into the countryside.
When you arrive by car it is most advisable
to take the way via the motorway A5,
that connects Freiburg to Strasbourg,
Mannheim. Karlsruhe and Frankfurt or to
take the B31, that goes directly through
the Hochschwarzwald.
Those who want to cross Freiburg the
quickest way best lines up itself a bicycle.
The cycleways in Freiburg are built out
really well – it is perfect to get to know
the city. Cycling is really hip in the Green
City Freiburg and it was elected second
most popular means of transportation by
the inhabitants. Those who prefer public
transportation can fall back on the tram
and buses, which connect the city and
its districts with each other and depart
regularly every few minutes.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
Even in this category Freiburg can satisfy
with a large number of accommodations.
It doesn’t matter whether you want to stay
in hotels, taverns and pensions or vacation
apartments. Everything is offered for every
need and every budget. Simply furnished
and inexpensive are Freiburg’s youth
hostels or the Black Forest Hostel. They are
captivating with their excellent location
close to the city centre and here you get the
chance to get to know other discoverers of
Freiburg really quickly. The several small
taverns and pension have a very unique
ambience. Most of them are run familiar
and offer, despite their position in the
centre, a rural and traditional atmosphere
such as the hotel-pension Goldene Krone.
Those who place value on comfort perceive
the 4* Novotel Freiburg as the perfect
accommodation. It is centrally located right
next to the Concert hall and the Central
station. Or you afford the 5* Hotel Colombi
that is right next to the old town.
THE SCENE & RESTAURANTS:
From culinary view Freiburg offers
everything for every taste. In addition
to numerous international restaurants
and snack bars, there is a huge selection
of restaurants where you can enjoy the
plain, traditional German cuisine. The
inn Zum deutschen Haus and the hotelrestaurant Rappen belong to those. Highly
recommended are specialities such as beef
and horseradish sauce and beetroot, liver
and Brägele (sort of fried potatoes), piece
of shoulder or Schupfnudeln (finger shaped
potato dumplings) and bacon sauerkraut.
This includes a simon-pure Baden wine,
because Freiburg is well known for its winegrowing areas, to which the Kaiserstuhl and
the Markgräflerland are belonging. If you
9
City Report: Freiburg
want to do something special you are
advised to visit the inn zum Roten Bären.
This celebrated its seventh centenary in
2011 and is the oldest inn in Germany.
For beer drinkers it is an absolute mustdo to visit the craft brewery Feierling.
The Feierling beer has been brewed for
more than 120 years and is one of the
best beers in the city. Seasonal several
specialities of beer are offered here.
Other typical Freiburg beers are Freiburg
Pilsner and Ganther.
10
Those who want to go out after dinner,
have a large selection of clubs, cocktail
bars or pubs (several for students). To
these belong the Cheers, the Schlappen
or the Irish pub O’kellys. You can shake
a leg in the Tacheles, Elpi or the Kagan
for those, who enjoy partying in a fancier
way. There you can celebrate in the 18th
floor of the solar tower at the Central
station while having a phenomenal view
over the nightly Freiburg.
ATTRACTIONS:
There is one thing for sure – Those
who come to visit Freiburg never get
bored, because the city offers numerous
attractions and activities. Really worth
seeing is the historical old town with
many historical buildings, for example
the old town hall, the historical store or
the still preserved city gates. An absolute
must-do is a visit of the minster, a city
landmark. Its Gothic tower with a height
of 116m overtops all other city buildings

and it offers and unforgettable view over
Freiburg. There are uncountable works
of art and the magnificent glass windows
that are telling you the city’s history.
Something special are the Bächle (small
water channels) in Freiburg, which are
passing through the whole old town.
Make sure that you keep your eyes open,
because according to an old Baden myth,
a person who steps into the Bächle,
has to marry a native of Freiburg. Also
located in the city centre is the KaiserJoseph-Street – Freiburgs’ shopping
district. It invites to shop and to stroll
with several shops and department
stores. Those who want to escape from
the excitement of the city centre, best
climb the Schlossbergturm. Here you are
rewarded with a cup of coffee and an
awesome view over the city. A walk along
the Dreisam or a visit of the Seepark
invite you to relax. Depending on the
season you can relax on the meadow,
have a picnic or observe during a walk
around the lake, fish and turtles.
If you want to do something cultural
then Freiburg is just perfect for you. It
has several urban museums, numerous
movie theatres, the concert hall and the
Freiburg City Theatre that give you the
best chance to create your free time rich
in variety.
FREIBURG AND SALSA:
Freiburg is one of the Salsa Cities in
the southern Germany. Several dance
schools are specializing in Salsa and other
Latin American Dances and offer several
courses in all styles. To these schools
belong the Dancing school Gutmann,
Salsastudio Romano, Timbalaye or the
AYA Latin Dance Academy, which is
under the direction of the runner-up to
World Champios Anne Böhm & Anichi
Perez. The current German champions
Luisa Epp & Pablo Perez are also teaching
there. On Wednesdays, Saturdays and
Sundays you can go out dancing in the
Latin Club Mama**ita or in the Jackson
Pollock bar on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
For the first time the Freiburg Salsa
Festival will be taking place from July,
20th till 22th 2012 and it invites Salseros
from all over the world to Freiburg.

Band: Mercadonegro
24
Today Mercadonegro is one of
the most in demand live bands
in the genre of Latin American
music. They are known for hits
like Yo soy el son and Llego la
Hora, play at the most important
festivals and congresses and are
regular guests of Salsa Dura.
In the end of July, Freiburg can
look forward to welcoming
Mercadonegro, who are going to
kick off the Freiburg Salsa Festival
in style.
The orchestra now consists of
numerous musicians who have
made a name for themselves all
over the world. However, it was
originally founded by 3 musicians
and the producer Bibomusic:
•
Jose Armando Miranda is
the lead singer and was
born 1974 in La Habana,
Kuba.
•
Cesar Correa is the musical
director of the orchestra
and was born 1975 in
Trujilla Peru. The son of
two Peruvian musicians,
he has a natural affinity
and passion for music. He
can play the piano and
keyboard like no one else
and he is the author of
many of the orchestras
songs songs.
•
Rodrigo Rodriguez comes
from Cartagenia de Indias,
Columbia. He sings, plays
the Timbale and is also the
composer of several of the
orchestra’s hits.
Above all one thing joined
the four friends: the love to
Latin American musics and
the emotions associated with
their homeland. They all lived in
Switzerland, knew the problems
of immigration and were
determined to bring their music
closer to the world , to develop
own ideas and the own style
and to express their shared life
experience musically. The name
of the orchestra was chosen
deliberately, as a description of
Latin American music, involving
their several facets. The three
musicians achieved great musical
successes together with the
violinist Alfredo de la Fe and the
queen of Salsa, Mrs. Celia Cruz.
The group was looking for other
gifted musicians in Europe in
order to grow the orchestra,
to develop the favored sound
and to convert the musical
ideas. Especially those who
understood their views and
emotions about Latin American
roots and were able to share
them. After a period of intensive
activity their first CD Bailalo was
25
produced. Dedicated to those
who immigrated and left loved
ones behind. With the release
of the song Mercadonegro
the orchestra finally made its
breakthrough. Over the coming
years several further songs
like Pa’l Bailador, Eso me duele
and Regrarese were released.
The unique style and the high
quality of the album Bailalo
convinced also many famous
and respected DJ’s and so the
orchestra rapidly appeared in
numerous Latin American music
websites in the United States like
www.salsaartists.com or www.
descarga.com which contributed
to increasing popularity of
Mercadonegro
and
which
opened a new musical era.
The overwhelming success of
the band encouraged other
Artists of Latin American music
to produce and play their music
in Europe. Thus, the European
salsa scene was influenced partly
formed by Mercadonegro. The
second album Salsa pa’l mundo
has been in now way inferior to
the quality of Bailalo. Songs like
La Bendicion, La Guarachara
de Cuba, Llego la hora, A los
Orishas, Jamas, Pa’l Callao, Yo
soy el son and El Negro placed
themselves immediately in the
upper positions of the charts. To
remember the founding of the
band, the album covers resembles
a noble Swiss watch,because
here the foundation for the band
was laid. Today Mercandonegro
is known around the world.
They are part of the most
popular Latin American music
groups and play on the most
well-known congresses and
festivals. For example, on the
Rotterdam Carnival in Holland,
the Red Sea Festival in Israel or
on the Umbria Jazz in Perugia.
Their performances are always
something special. The unique
sound is infectious and it inspired
absolutely every dancer.

Artist: G-AMADO CD: NHAS LETRAS
R‘n‘B, Hip Hop, Zouk and Kizomba are the genres of G-Amado. None other than Mika Mendes supported
G-Amado on his debut-CD. In my humble opinion ‘Alguen Ku un Gosta‘ is the best track of this release, but
the duet with Shana is will also take you on a musical journey.
Band introduction:
MARLOW ROSADO
Studying liner notes on a regular basis, the name of Marlow Rosado will be detected on CDs of Puerto Rican Power,
Mario Ortiz, Charlie Cruz, Elvis Crespo, Andy Montañez,
Tito Rojas and many more. As a successful producer and
composer he was awarded with platin for Ricky Martin‘s
‘Musica+Alma+Sexo‘ and has been nominated for the Grammy Award eleven times so far.
He takes up the challenge of rearranging 70s Fania classics
adding his personal sound. Countless times Fania classics have been interpreted but rarely
has this been carried out so brilliantly. Marlow‘s work has been rewarded by the presence of
several original Stars of the Fania 70s. A perfect example is the song ‘Nací Moreno‘ celebrating Marlow Rosado‘s retro style with guests like Papo Lucca and Luigi Texidor. The original
Fender Rhodes and the tough horn sections zest the latest release ‘Retro‘.
Marlow Rosado - Retro
A pre-eminent interpretation and a rendered homage
of salsa classics including artists of Fania‘s heyday.
Cheo Feliciano & Rubén Blades Eba Say Ajá
Two doyen of salsa enriched with vibraphon strictly
for for the dance floor.
