By: Daniel D’Addario/Thursday, June 28
Despite the fact that only five years have passed since the last movie about SpiderMan—and that Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire, the last Mary Jane Watson and
Peter Parker are both more than available!—they’ve made another movie about the
web-shooting super hero. (And, no, it’s not an adaptation of the backup-singer-maiming
Broadway musical you’ve forgotten about!) Stars Andrew Garfield—the cute boy
fromThe Social Network—and Emma Stone—the ever-more-grating girl from every
movie—won’t be in attendance at tonight’s special screening, but a cast member
from Girls and the kid who played the Kevin that We Need to Talk About will be! What a
zeitgeisty room!
Screening and afterparty, Lower East Side, invitation only.
An Informal Survey on the Amazing Spider-Man Red Carpet
By: Luke Hammerman/Friday, June 29th 2012
Last night at Union Square Cinemas for a screening of The Amazing Spider-Man, we
caught up with celebrities on the red carpet and queried, “Who is your favorite
superhero?”
Surprisingly, no one went with Aquaman. But here’s who they did say.
Joe Pantoliano
"My heroes were all actors: Marlon Brando, Cary Grant. His Girl Friday, you know? I'm developing a
series right now about Nellie Bly. Because she's the first reporter--period--but she's also the original
investigative journalist. She feigned madness and got herself thrown in a mental institution and then
wrote about it from the inside."
Chaske Spencer
"I went through phases. It was Spider-Man, Superman, Batman...but as I get older I got more into
the Crow and stuff like that." (Laughs.)
Brady Corbet
"To be honest, I didn’t have one. I was raised by a single mom, daddy never taught me how to play
ball. But I did have a bit of a Batman period."
Savannah Wise
"I had a real affinity for the X-Men. I had a cousin who was really into them and it’s because of him
that I got into them. Especially Storm! I wanted her platinum hair, it was the bomb."
Olivia Culpo (Miss USA) and Leila Lopes (Miss Universe)
Olivia: “Superman!"
Leila: "Yeah, Superman. He is everyone’s favorite! But I also loved Batman."
Olivia: "Although, now that we live in New York City, I like how Spider-Man can swing from building
to building."
Mayor Cory Booker
"I had a lot. I was a superhero fan. So I loved the Hulk, I liked Batman. I really was just a superhero
fanatic."
Constantine Maroulis
"My favorite superhero growing up was probably Spider-Man. They used to have the early early early
morning TV Spider-Man back in the 80’s. I remember I had to get up early and sneak past my
mother who was sleeping to get to the family room so I could watch it."
Ry Russo-Young
"Catwoman. She was like a leftover femme fatale."
Rob Thomas
"The big three: Spider-Man, Batman and Superman. I hope they make a dark Superman movie, like
the reboots they are doing for Spider-Man and Batman. Though my wife thinks the last Superman
was hot. I was like 'This guy isn't isn't Superman.' And she said, 'He looks like Superman to me.'"
Russell Simmons
"I don't know. Captain America?"

Constantine Maroulis, with Spider-Man goodies in hand.
While we attended the screening of The Amazing Spider-Man last night, we’ll leave the
movie to the critics at The Daily Bugle. However, the afterparty, thrown by the Peggy
Siegal Company and the Gerber Group at Lilium? We were on that like Peter Parker is
on the Spider-Man beat.
“That movie was amazing! Andrew Garfield is so good as Spider-Man!” independent film
director Ry Russo Young told us over the lively music that filled the modest-sized
Lilium lounge. We barely had time to agree with her before being separated in the
crowded space. However, we did see her talking with director, actor and producer Alex
Karpovsky, an actor on the HBO series Girls with Lena Dunham. (Ms. Dunham and
Ms. Young co-wrote Nobody Walks together, which was recently screened at the
BAMcinemafest.)
We asked Smash’s Jaime Cepero about his preferred superhero. “Spawn has to be
one of my favorites. Spawn is just a BAMF,” Mr. Cepero told us, referencing a
subversive internet acronym (Google it). However, before we could even stare at the
looping video of a pair of lipsticked lips sensually licking up pomegranate seeds that
played above the bar, we heard Twilight star Chaske Spencer’s deep voice behind
us. Mr. Spencer told us that now that he is finally done with Twilight, he is working with
his new production company on some indie projects.
Actor, singer and American Idol finalist Constantine Maroulis was moving a little slow
due to a huge protective boot he had on his right leg. “No, I was not playing superhero,”
he laughed. “I was actually playing softball at Yankee Stadium. It had always been my
dream to play at Yankee Stadium and I got to do it for a charity fundraiser, but I rolled
my ankle. But the boot helps and it matches my pants!” He lifted it slightly to show us.
“Kinda Spider-Man style right?”
The boot certainly did not stop Mr. Maroulis from snagging up three of the Spider-Man
action figures that were floating around the room. His girlfriend, model Ashley Haas,
who he met in a bar down the street from the theater where he performed in Rock of
Ages, laughed at his antics. Mr. Maroulis admitted to us that he has yet to see the
movie version of the play, despite making an appearance in it.
The party was still going strong when we left. As we were leaving we overheard Miss
USA Olivia Culpo mention that it must be nice to swing from building to building like
Spider-Man. Well, Ms. Culpo, it certainly would beat the subway.

“Spider-Man” was a super-villain instead of a hero for kids who were too young to be
admitted to a party after the film’s New York premiere. Guests with little ones in tow
were turned away from a swanky party at W Hotel club Lilium Thursday following the
screening because the spot was 21-and-over. “Guests who brought their kids were
turned away at the door,” said a witness at the Gerber Group-sponsored bash. All
attendees were carded, sending at least one adult to a car to find her purse. Russell
Simmons was spotted picking up extra goodie bags filled with hats, T-shirts and action
figures to bring home. Ivanka Trump, Mayor Cory Booker and Ezra Miller were also in
the crowd.

Lives Up To The Hype

Get ready for one of the most exciting movies of the year — both the action and
love story are second to none!
One of the most buzzed-about films of summer is The Amazing Spider-Man, featuring
red-hot stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. HollywoodLife.com got a chance to
see this highly-anticipated reboot at a special screening hosted by The Wall Street
Journal and The Peggy Siegal Company. It’s anchored by the real-life lovers, who
definitely add some much-needed starpower to the fading franchise. It’s as fun and epic
a superhero movie as The Avengers! Check out five reasons we LOVED this actionpacked flick!
1) Andrew and Emma are great stars!
We just love the chemistry between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy. It’s so pleasant to
chill out and enjoy two attractive people deliver witty banter for two hours!
2) The Lizard is a great villain!
Rhys Ifans is so much fun as mad scientist Dr. Curt Connors, and the visual effects
which transform him into The Lizard are so great. His leathery skin especially pops in
3D — it’s some of the best CGI of the year!
3) The action is breezy and fun!
The Amazing Spider-Man plays as a live-action cartoon, which is pretty perfect for a
comic book adaptation. It never gets dark and gloomy, preferring to keep the thrills in
interesting environments like the sewers and a high school. It even delivers an eyepopping bridge battle!
4) The supporting cast is amazing!
Between Martin Sheen, Sally Field and Denis Leary, the adults are played by strong
actors who give warm performances. It gives the movie plenty of heart!
5) It’s a true crowd-pleaser!
If you’re spending the holiday with friends and family, everyone will think Spider-Man is
a great pick. After all, you can’t exactly take your nieces and nephews to go see Magic
Mike!
After the premiere, A-list guests headed to the after party at Lilium, located inside the W
Union Square, and the swanky soiree was sponsored by The Gerber Group.
Will YOU go see The Amazing Spider-Man when it opens on July 3, HollywoodLifers?
