U.S. POSTAGE PAID PERMIT NO. 164 PLATTSBURGH, NY Y’s KIDS CAMP JUNIOR CAMP K-2 (Ages 3-5yrs) (Ages 5-8yrs - must have completed kindergarten) GENERAL INFORMATION GENERAL INFORMATION REGISTRATION PROGRAM ACTIVITIES The Junior Camp is an alternative to our Camp Jericho day camp program and is for children in kindergarten through second grade. Jr. Camp provides a supervised, structured environment as well as a lot of fun. Children will need to bring a lunch, snack, a swimsuit and towel for each day. Y’s Kids Camp is offered 5 days per week and will run from 9:00am until 3:00pm. Children will need to bring their lunch, swimsuit and towel each day. The camp serves pre-school age children 3 years old (by December 31, 2015) through 5 years old, emphasizing socialization and summer fun. Your child will participate in these exciting activities while being supervised by experienced staff: Arts-n-Crafts, Swimming, Games, Rock Climbing Wall, Playground, Gym, and Field Trips. Director: Laney Feazelle. This camp offers four, two-week sessions. Final registration and payment is required by the Thursday before each session. There is a $75 deposit required for each session (applied to the balance due). The groups participate in camp activities in periods of approximately 45-60 minutes. Each activity area is led by a counselor/lifeguard experienced in that area. ACTIVITIES Swimming, Basketball, Archery, Low Elements Ropes Course, Arts-n-Crafts, Soccer, Volleyball, Games, Nature Hiking, Boating, Canoeing and Fishing (camper must supply own fishing equipment and bait). Fun themes are incorporated by the staff each week to make the camp experience one that will last a lifetime! CHARACTER CAMP ~ overnight at Camp Jericho ~ We will again be offering the overnight Character Camp for campers 9 and above. The campers must exhibit the YMCA’s four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. The Character Camps are held on the second Thursday of each session. Robb - the Camp Director - stays at each overnight as well as the staff having the required first aid training. PARENT’S NIGHT Parent’s nights will be held on the 2nd Wednesday evening of sessions 1, 2, 3, & 4. Parents are invited to camp to see what the campers have been up to. You may take a tour of the camp or just enjoy the activities and entertainment that will be planned for the evening. Parents are asked to bring a dessert or a snack to share. GENERAL INFORMATION BEFORE/AFTER CAMP CARE The YMCA offers a before/after camp care program for families requiring extended care. Before camp or after camp care is $40 per session per child. Before and after camp care is $65 per session per child. Before camp runs from 7:00 AM - 8:15 AM and after camp runs from 4:45 PM - 6:00 PM. CAMP STAFF We are pleased to have Robb Garrand, “Mr. G,” back for his 17th season as director for Camp Jericho. Robb is the Superintendent at North Eastern Clinton Central School District (NCCS), director of the NCCS Outdoor Education Program, and is the boys varsity basketball coach. Each year we have seen even more returning staff which has been a big plus for the overall operation and quality of the camp program. All staff are carefully screened and selected for their experience, education, skill and commitment to our camp philosophy. All counselors go through an extensive orientation and pre-camp training. In Robb’s absence, Jeff Norton will be the Camp Director. Jeff is a Kindergarten Teacher at the Rouses Point Elementary school and will be returning to camp for his 11th year. • All 5 yr. olds must have completed kindergarten. • All children need a bathing suit and towel, labeled with the camper’s name. • Children are required to wear socks and sneakers. • Appropriate clothing should be worn for camp activities and the varying weather conditions. Camp Jericho is held rain or shine. • All campers need to bring a lunch, drink and two snacks each day. • Transportation to Camp Jericho is by bus, leaving the YMCA at exactly 8:30 AM and returning at 4:30 PM. • The YMCA is not responsible for items lost. • Any medications that children are to receive at camp must be in its original container stating dosage and time. Medications must be given directly to the Camp Director or Camp Health Designee for dispensing. • Camp Jericho is inspected and receives its permit through the Clinton County Health Department. TEEN DISCOVERY DISCOVERY CAMP TEEN CAMP (Ages 12-15yrs) GENERAL INFORMATION The camp will utilize the Plattsburgh YMCA, held at both the First Presbyterian Church & YMCA, using its amenities such as the pool, gym, racquet ball, and rock wall throughout the sessions. Teen Discovery is a field trip based program focused on getting teens involved in the community and outdoors. Throughout the camps four sessions, teens will particpate in hiking, fishing, swimming, kayaking, science activities, frisbee golf, sports, and much more. Campers will also be doing community service projects with the Adirondack Humane Society, food shelf, and Reality Check. Campers will also act as mentors to younger campers at the YMCA’s other summer camps. FEES: Members (annual): $225 per session. Non-members: $280 per session. *There is a 15% reduction for 2nd and 3rd sibling. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE Assistance applications must be filled out and approved prior to registration. YMCA uses a sliding fee scale based on income and number of dependents. There is a two session limit. Applications are available at the front desk of the YMCA or online at www.plattsburghymca.com. WEEKEND TRIPS Once again we have the popular weekend excursion trips for the older campers (ages 9-13). All weekend trips will begin with an overnight at Camp Jericho on the Friday before. The campers will arrive back to the YMCA Saturday evening for pick up by parent. Campers must be registered for the session of the trip to participate. The trips will be limited to the first 18 and will have additional costs. You must sign up separately for the trips. The registration fee is non-refundable. ACTIVITIES During each session campers will attend one larger trip which will have an additional charge. For example Great Escape, Pizza Put, Ausable Chasm, ECHO museum, or High Falls Gorge.
