June 2016 - GWRRA Colorado Chapter I
Colorado Springs JUN 2016 CHAPTER I JULY GATHERING July 9 10:00 am FOUNTAIN CREEK REGIONAL PARK Pavillion #1 2010 Duckwood Rd Fountain, CO Exit 132-A - From the Director’s Desk - The Region “F"un Convention in Albuquerque was a great success. It was impressive to see all the great looking Gold Wings at the hotel and buzzing all around town. We really enjoyed seeing everyone there from Chapter-I and all our friends from other Chapters as well. We couldn’t have had better weather either. All in all, we had a great time. Jim and Olga did an outstanding job with their presentation for the Region COY competition. We are very proud of their accomplishments over this last year as they prepared for this competition. They were up against some strong competition, but really, we thought they should have won. As far as we’re concerned, they did win and certainly do a fantastic job representing Colorado District as our Couple of the Year! This year has been racing quickly by us, and we now have less than a month before our infamous Chapter-I Picnic and Fundraiser scheduled for July 9th. We have changed the venue this year to Fountain Creek Regional Park which looks like a great location for our picnic. We have a few areas that we need some help as we prepare for the picnic, so please contact us to help pitch in. We hope to see everyone at the picnic! There are a lot of activities scheduled in June that will fill anyone’s calendar. As you make your plans for June, please be sure to help support other Chapter fundraiser activities if at all possible. It’s great fun, and it helps support our neighboring Chapter’s activities. A win-win for sure. Ride safe, and we will see you out there. I truly do love Summer and all that comes with it; sunshine, BBQ's, gardening, blue skies, fresh air, fireworks, family reunions, flip flops, motorcycle rides, concerts in the park, territory days, rodeos, parades, watermelon, homemade ice cream AND camping. Chapter-I just had our first camping trip of the season last month. it was great! There is something about being outside, listening to the birds when you first wake up in the morning, or looking at our blue Colorado skies so close, so beautiful, that just makes you feel relaxed, peaceful. The first time I ever went camping was after Steve and I were married. We slept in the back of a pickup truck since we didn't own a camper or even a tent. After that first camping trip I thought camping was fantastic, truck bed and all! After all of these years I have come to the conclusion that you either LOVE camping or you HATE it! I love it! It seems like everything you eat when your camping taste so much better! It's not that it's gourmet, not even, just good! What a treat to bite into a burger fresh off the grill piled high with crispy lettuce, sweet onion, big juicy slices of tomato and tart dill pickles, yum! When your camping, the cell phone can get put away, emails don't have to be answered, life gets to just slow down. How nice, no schedules, no meetings, no errands, no appointments, or deadlines, nothing...heavenly. How about a hike, seeing the sights, a wonderful bike ride, reading a book or taking a nap, yes, even in the middle of the day, wonder of wonders Even though we, the happy campers of Chapter-I did not see the sun as much as we would have liked while we were at the Royal Gorge KOA, the sun did make an appearance for a few hours, now and then. Our time camping together was so fun, surrounded by friends, sometimes funny, very filling, (all the wonderful food,) and just plain fabulous! Steve and I are anxious to take our little tear drop out for another camping trip. At least the next time we WON'T be the newbies or have an audience as soon as we pull into our camp site Jacque Callicott Chapter I Director Page 2 Springs Wings JUN 2016 2016 Chapter I Staff Chapter Director—Steve & Jacque Callicott Directors@SpringsWings.org Asst. During the Memorial Day weekend, there was a small misunderstanding between a car and a motorcycle. The report stated that the motorist and the motorcyclist were having a heated argument while riding down the street. When both vehicles came to a stop at the traffic light, the motorist ran over the motorcycle to his right. The rider and passenger fell off the motorcycle. The guy broke his leg and the passenger got road rash, so the reporter stated. The picture showed a bandage on her left leg. That was the only “road rash” she had…Hmmmm. That didn’t seem right to me. I thought her leg hit the hot motorcycle pipes when she fell off of the motorcycle. That’s just me!!! Even if she had on long pants or knee high boots would have protected her calf. I get it…I get it folks, It’s HOT, DAM HOT. But PPE, (Personal Protective Equipment) will protect you from the elements, like rain, hail, wind, or even the sun. Yes it’s HOT. Rain and hail hurts when on a motorcycle riding down the highway. OMG!!! Sunburn is no joke. Cover up folks. FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Have you ever seen a cowboy in shorts while riding a horse or a bull? How about tennis shoes or flip-flops? Why is that? It’s still HOT! To all members that donated to the church pantry this past Saturday. You were fabulous. I could not make the meeting but Doug told me of your generosity. He was so impressed by all the Denver members arriving with so many items to help feed the needy families in our area. I am not forgetting our own Chapter I. Those that give time and time again. Doesn't matter if it is cash or goods. It all goes to fill a real need. It really does fill our hearts with joy to know so many good people. As we travel around the area shopping for the best deals, we are asked a lot of questions. Usually why we're buying so many of one item. We always use that opportunity to tell people about GWRRA and Chapter I and the Pantry. Checkers, store employees as well as customers always give us a thumbs up and a thank you for helping those less fortunate in our community. Bless you all and thanks again.
