Outdoor Adventure Camps 2016 Nature Nursery 1983 Register online! www.shakerlakes.org Explore Nature Inside and Out Help us celebrate 50 Years In the late 19th century The Shaker Parklands was designated as a natural green space, set aside by the city of Cleveland for the benefit of its fast-growing population. Citizens enjoyed the park as an escape to the “country” as the industrial city pushed eastward. In the 1960s the Shaker Parklands was threatened by a proposed freeway. Local citizens organized and fought hard to shut it down. Included in their strategy was the founding of the Shaker Lakes Regional Nature Center. Its goals were simple: to teach environmental education and to preserve the area’s important natural habitats — lake, stream, marsh, field, ravine and forest. Today, we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes and continue to serve over 15,000 area schoolchildren and an estimated 30,000 hikers, birders and visitors annually. Join today! Become part of the legacy. Your Household membership at $65/year comes with the following benefits: • Early registration and discounted prices for all sessions of Outdoor Adventure Camps ($30 per session) • Free admission and/or benefits to more than 140 nature centers in the U.S. and Canada • 10% discount on building rentals • 10% discount in the Duck Pond Gift Shop • Discounted member price to programs and events • $25 discount for B’Earthday Parties Nature Nursery 1981 • Other membership levels are available.
