Inter national Credit Union Day
Celebrates People Helping People
The credit union movement began 160 years ago with a simple but radical
idea. That with the help of your neighbors, you can improve your
financial well-being.
This idea spread across the world and credit unions flourished, especially
during times of economic hardship.
During the Great Depression, scores of ordinary Americans—
farmers, teachers, small business owners—found themselves without access
to banking services, so they banded together to become their own
not-for-profit financial institution. Credit unions opened in record numbers.
During the recent Great Recession, again credit union memberships swelled.
Today there are more than 200 million credit union members worldwide—
100 million of them in the U.S.
ViaCU will be celebrating
ICU Day by serving
cookies in our branches
on Thursday, October 15!
But even after all this time, the bedrock principles of credit unions
remain unchanged.
Credit unions are still:
• People coming together to be their own bank, so no one can deny them a path to prosperity.
• People pooling their savings to provide each other affordable credit.
• People helping people.
When ViaCU wishes you a Happy ICU Day, know that we’re thanking you for belonging to a movement that’s helping
your neighbors—and people around the world—grow and thrive and follow their dreams.

During Saturdays in October, the ViaCU staff will have the opportunity

Nurse’s Aid is a program that provides school nurses with personal hygiene
items and other necessary supplies beyond first aid needs. ViaCU’s goal is
to spread awareness and raise enough money to fulfill each school nurse’s
“wish list” each school year.

Questions for ViaInsurance Agents, Janet Brenner and Beth Combs:
Am I covered for damages to a rental car?
Yes, but there is a gap under your personal auto policy. In the event you
damage or wreck the rental car, your policy will step in and pay damages
subject to your policy deductibles. HOWEVER, while the rental car is
unavailable to rent to another customer, you can be charged for the
agency’s loss of use. So, you may be responsible to pay a daily rental rate
while the vehicle is out of service. Another recommendation would be to
check with your credit card company on the card services offered.
Sometimes the card will provide this additional coverage when used to rent
the car. The rental agency will also offer insurance coverage as part of your contract for an additional fee,
and the loss of use IS included in their product.
