On my website, you’ll find a section dedicated to antique postcards, trade cards, books
and other ephemera specially chosen to inspire the decorative artist. These miniature
works of art are not only inspirational for the artist, but may be framed or otherwise
displayed. They make lovely small gifts when affixed to a blank greeting card with photo
corners. Cards that are in “not so great” condition are perfect for scrapbooking and other
crafts. Tiny treasures from a by-gone era!

Vintage Inspirations--Reproduction
Catherine Klein Reproductions
If you love to paint flowers, you’ll want to collect these wonderful, inspiring books. Each book contains
ten full-color pages, printed on one side only, on quality matte cardstock. There is no text.
Porcelain artist, Jewell Phillips (now deceased), began collecting, compiling, and publishing Catherine
Klein studies in the 60’s—simple collections of antique postcards, calendars, and other ephemera,
reproduced in book form.
Catherine Klein was born in Prussia (now Germany) in 1861. She attended the Art School in Berlin and
painted flowers, becoming Prussia’s best-known flower painter in the 1890’s. She was known as “the” rose
painter. She also painted fruit, birds, still-life and portraits. Her work is exquisite, and became widely
circulated because it appeared in print in the form of postcards, calendars, etc. These are highly collectable
today. Her work is unparalleled for Decorative Artists seeking to study color and beautiful composition.
There are two sets of books available: the C. Klein Series, Books 1-10, and Treasures From Yesteryear,
Books 1-24 (except Book 17, which is currently out of print). The Treasures From Yesteryear series also
contains a few studies from other artists, but most are Catherine Klein paintings.
Note: In some instances, the pictures in the books are a bit dull, as they are reproduced from vintage
items, but they are still exceptional studies.
