The centre is based in the Old Sorting Office building beautifully located on the green by the pond, nestling in the centre of Barnes. We have three delightful and airy studio spaces which can be adapted to one large space offering a sprung dance floor, soundproof screens and our new tiered seating. We also hire out the space for private functions such as weddings, christenings, birthday parties and charity events plus regular weekly classes. The staff at OSO are polite and helpful, and always ready and eager to assist with any logistical arrangements. There is full disabled access at OSO. Everyday Barnes Café @ the OSO The Café is open from 9am until 5pm Monday to Friday, and 10am to 4pm on Saturdays. We offer a truly unique setting in a lovely, open and friendly environment and are always ready with a warm welcome. With a firm emphasis on taste and quality, we use local suppliers to source the best ingredients and make almost everything from scratch. Our new menu includes a delicious salad selection, which is freshly made and changes daily, as well as soups, pasta, paninis, sandwiches and wraps. We also offer a fabulous selection of homemade cakes and muffins and our coffee is specially selected and hand roasted. Children are always welcome at the OSO and we offer a tasty lunch and snack selection especially for our little guests. Our children’s menu has also been completely revamped so do pop in and check it out. Children’s Parties The OSO is available to hire for children’s parties. They have exclusive use of the OSO (typically on the last Sunday of the month), running their exciting programme of ‘Activity Days’ which includes local walks with a café stop, fun interactive music concerts, art mosaic workshops and a youth club for young people. BARNES SOCIETIES AND VOLUNTEERS OPEN DAY Saturday 7th May, 10-2.30pm At this popular event, now in its sixth year, some 25 plus societies come together to showcase the wide range of activities available locally. The event is hosted by the BCA, and offers something for everyone – from sport, music, drama, literature, history, singing, philosophy and reading, to volunteering to help with local events like the Barnes Fair or helping to protect the local environment. (age 6+) THE REBEL YELL JAZZ ORCHESTRA: A CELEBRATION OF THE CLARKEBOLAND BIG BAND Saturday 21st May, 8pm The Rebel Yell Jazz Orchestra is a West London-based jazz orchestra that was formed in 2014 to honour the music of the legendary Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland Big Band. RYJO has performed to acclaim all over London over the past two years and makes its return appearance to the OSO this Spring. The music is thrilling, challenging and beautiful - and the orchestra is probably the only one in the world that is so dedicated to this repertoire. An evening that will surely delight lovers of modern big band jazz. BARNES PRIMARY SCHOOL - ARTSWEEK SHOW 2016 Friday 24th June, 6-9pm Free admission A celebration of terrific artwork created by the pupils of Barnes Primary School, showcasing creations from all year groups, in all forms of media. THE GIN CHRONICLES: A SCOTTISH ADVENTURE Vintage comedy show presented by the Misfits of London Wednesday 6th & Thursday 7th July, 7.30pm It’s England, 1947. John Jobling and Doris Golightly (1940s amateur detectives) are called in to investigate the threat of a London Gin Shortage, but as the case opens up, all roads seem to lead north... to the bracing boulevards of Edinburgh. A train journey beckons, toast & marmalade is replaced by porridge & haggis (though not together), and the looming menace of....a juniper crisis. Join ‘The Misfits of London’ for a live recording of “The Gin Chronicles: A Scottish Adventure.” BARNES FAIR Saturday 9th July The theme of this year’s fair is Barnes in Bloom and the OSO will be open all day at the heart of the fair. Although close to all the action, we offer a unique opportunity to relax and recharge with plenty of seating both inside and out. We will be offering our fabulous salad selection, together with bacon baps and burgers from our Smithfield butcher. We will also be showing the Wimbledon Ladies Final on a big screen, together with strawberries and cream for that authentic experience! Outside, Sipsmiths make a very welcome return with their pop up bar, one of the big hits at last year’s fair. TWAIN AT 70 Thursday 14th July. 7.30pm At 70, Twain dictated his memoirs, which revealed his views on politics, religion and history as well as his deep emotional attachment to his family. A one man show performed by David Patrick Stucky in New York, London and now, Barnes. SENIOR STREET SEXTET Saturday 16th July, 7.30pm Come and enjoy a great musical evening with a mix of jazz oriented music including standards, ballads, latin, funk and blues. With a tremendous lineup of three saxes, keyboard, bass and drums, you’ll hear some old favourites and some less well known tunes too. In this showcase of Year 11 GCSE exam pieces, students were free to choose the style and medium in which to work.
