Silicon Valley Power Lighting Program Success Stories FIORILLO’S RESTAURANT AKINS COLLISION CENTER HOMESTEAD WASH & DRY Fiorillo’s Restaurant, serving Santa Clara customers for 50 years, was an early adopter of LED lighting. LED lamps are used for all ambient and accent lighting throughout the facility’s dining area and their 180-seat private banquet facility, reducing annual electric costs by nearly 10%. In addition, maintenance costs are reduced due to the increased life of the bulbs. Akins Collision Center retrofitted the 400-watt metal halide lighting in its paint booth with 200-watt induction lamps and drivers. In doing so, they reduced the paint booth lighting energy use by 53%, saving almost 7,500 kWh per year while improving the overall quality of light. With utility bill savings and the rebate received from SVP, the lighting retrofit will pay for itself in less than 2 years. Homestead Wash & Dry reduced its energy costs by 9% by retrofitting old, inefficient T12 fixtures with high-performance T8 lamps and ballasts. By de-lamping fixtures from 4 lamps to 2 lamps and installing reflectors, existing light levels were maintained while reducing energy and maintenance costs. With the rebates received through the SVP lighting rebate program, the cost for implementing the project was paid back through utility bill cost savings in less than a year. THE PLAZA SUITES Chief engineer Alan McNeese is utilizing rebates from Silicon Valley Power in an effort to achieve the hotel’s environmental goals of being mercury-free. All of the facility’s fluorescent lighting is being replaced with new LED lights. The hallways and vanities are now illuminated by recessed LED flood lamps and all linear fluorescent light bulbs are scheduled to be replaced with new LED T8 replacement lamps. The LED lamps provide brighter and more accurate rendering of natural colors, last longer, and use less power. The cost savings from the initial retrofits help pay for each additional lighting retrofit. So far, the hotel has saved over 7% of its annual electric costs and will save even more once its LED lightning retrofit conversion has been completed. All together, the projects have an overall payback of less than one year. © 2015 Silicon Valley Power. All rights reserved.
