They are adjustable using a small flat blade screw driver, but a window with four screws must be removed before any adjustment takes place. troniX1 is the base model controller which controls pump running time by revolutions and off time by hours (0.5hrs minimum). It has a built in alarm for revolution control so that if the pump does not spin the alarm light will come on in the controller window. EP-tronic is the full function controller. It does everything the troniX1 does, plus has additional colour coded input plugs for low level switch, high pressure switch, divider proximity switch. It also has built in data logging so it will remember when an alarm event occur red and these events can be downloaded as required by the Beka Disys software on a laptop PC. They hire wheel loaders and excavators, both dry hire and with operators and currently have a fl eet of over 25 machines. The machines can end up in recycling plants, road works or loading various bulk materials at the nearby port facilities. Lind Contracting was established in 1975 and so have a lot of experience in the hire game. Ethan Lind knows how hard his hire machines can be worked and knows how diffi cult it can be to keep machines out on hire properly maintained. One of the big issues has been greasing. Loaders and excavators need daily greasing and in some aggressive environments, they may need greasing twice a day. Often, hirers are unable to grease daily and the cost to send a fi tter out on the road on a daily basis to grease machines is prohibitive. High maintenance costs, machine down time and lost income were result. Since 2003 Ethan has been fitting Beka-Max automatic lubrication systems to all new machines, and retrofitting to existing fleet when time permits. Using a well-proven method, the lubricant is only conveyed along the system’s interior tube walls. The narrowing at the tube end (nozzle) causes the lubricant to be continuously and finely sprayed even if conveyed in pulses. Depending on the programming, the air-supply’s solenoid valve opens for a set period or distance for a certain spray duration. This means that the piston pump conveys a precisely set quantity of lubricant (0.2 - 3 1.0cm / stroke) into the spray-air current. The material is conveyed by the air current as described above. The exact distribution and subdistribution of the lubricant volume to several spray points is effected by the new type of FLUILUB distributor. A nozzle is located at the end of the pipe. The lubricant is atomised and continuously sprayed on to the wheel flange. Because the wheel makes several revolutions during this time, the wheel flange is moistened slightly. A very thin highly adhesive film of lubrication is created, which cannot be thrown off even at very high wheel speeds in excess of 250 kph. Subsequently, the lubricant is transferred to the following wheel sets through contact with the rail flanks. Particularly in conjunction with modern wheel-flange lubricants possessing a high proportion of solids, a constant lubrication at low dosage can be maintained over a long period, even in the event of extreme pressure and temperatures. This has been demonstrated in many practical applications and different tests. 11 reducing costs USING Chassis Lubrication Systems We have compared the lifespan of key running gear components in heavy duty truck fleet which uses Beka Max #2 grease systems where previously, liquid grease systems had been fitted. The key components checked were shackle pins and king pins – these are the key greased front suspension components which require costly parts and repair costs when worn. The results of our research were surprising. Shackle pin life of 600,000km and king pin life of 1,200,000km was the best previously attainable by diligent hand greasing and normally attainable by liquid grease automatic lubrication systems. That meant that during the life of the truck costly downtime was required to replace these key components. At one Queensland coal mine Alemlube was asked to design automatic greasing systems which would ensure that all conveyor grease points were automatically greased and that labyrinths were kept topped up several times per day. It was thought that bearing life could be greatly improved and that maintenance resources could then be redirected to other pressing tasks. Additionally, the automatic greasing system was to be completely remotely monitored and be able to detect blocked bearings and stiff bearings – thus providing early warning of problem bearings and allowing corrective action on or before the next shutdown occurred. The systems were designed using progressive dividers which are the only way to accurately monitor lubricant volumes to large numbers of grease points. All drives, drive pulleys, bend pulleys and GTUs are connected to the systems. In addition, counterweight pulleys and winches are also included. 20kg pneumatic drum pumps were chosen so fit in with maintenance operations. Drums are renewed easily by hand as required. Great care was taken to exclude coal dust from the systems and to that end, all systems are housed in custom built stainless steel sheds which are internally pressurised by the pump exhaust, keeping all dust out. The progressive divider circuits are designed to allow the systems to continue operating even when a bearing is blocked. The blockage is detected and an alarm is activated in the maintenance office. Locating the blocked bearing is a simple procedure.
